They're not an immune characters in a midst of zombie apocalypse, so they covering their whole body while fighting zombies to avoid invection. Very basic logic actually.
If you've heard mixed reviews isn't that question kinda Pointless? Because depending who you ask You aren't getting solid confirmation one way or the other. Just go Watch some gameplay and see if it Tickles your cockles. If it does, then go play it. If not, skip it and grab Grounded or something.

Been a dead island fan for a long while now. Crazy, how slept on it was and just how great it is.
Critics online gave it a hard time for having an unsatisfying storyline and having weak combat. But other than that, it was pretty good.

The playable characters in this mode are from the campain. You can rescue some of them or help them find stuff in side quests
