  • In this video, I have interviewed Dr. Monu Mishra. Dr. Monu did his BSc in Physics from Delhi University and MSc in Physics from Jamia Millia Islamia University. Then, he completed his PhD in material science from National Physical Laboratory (NPL). Currently, he is working as a senior project scientist in Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi). Monu sir has visited several countries during his PhD tenure and has also won several national and international awards for his excellence in his research filed. Besides being a Physicist, he is also an environmentalist and a passionate writer.
The topic, which we discussed throughout the video, is based on ‘Career opportunities in Physics’ in BSc, MSc, and PhD. The following questions were asked:
Q.1 We find Physics very difficult in the initial stage. How to cope up with it?
Q.2 Why should we go for BSc in Physics after class 12?
Q.3 Up to what extent parent’s profession determines the children’s education?
Q.4 What should be the prime focus of a BSc. Physics student and what are the career options after BSc.?
Q.5 What is your opinion about Quantum Mechanics in BSc. level?
Q.6 Why should we go for MSc after BSc?
Q.7 Can we avail any foreign fellowship during BSc, MSc?
Q.8 What are the benefits of cracking NET?
Q.9 What are the fellowships for PhD in India other than NET?
Q.10 Which is the best fellowship for doing PhD?
Q.11 Up to what extent finding Jobs in the 1st or 2nd year of PhD is right?
Q.12 Up to what extent research publications matter?

Sir so many of them are telling that physics have no scope in this days when compared to chemistry or mathematics , but I am interested in physics to do msc in that, plz clarify my doubt if it doesn't have scope I will go to mathematics

Physics has more scope than mathematics.
The jobs you can especially get with Physics Masters:
      1. UPSC Geophysicist
      2. BARC Scientist
      3. DRDO Scientist
      4. Cabinet Secretariat
      5. Patent Examiner (Gazatted A)
      6. ONGC (with M.Sc. in Physics with Electronics)
      7. Assistant Professor in Degree Colleges
      8. JRF Position and Many more...
With B.Sc. Physics the options are even larger.
      All the best.

In B.Sc level, building a good concept is very important. Try to solve more and more numericals. Lab work is also important. You can do in this way, 80% attention on Jam, Jest and concept and the remaining 20% for Lab works or those kind of stuff. You can go for internship or other stuffs after B.Sc.

    • @drmonumishra
      @drmonumishra 4 года назад +4

Hey, I don't think its ever late to pursue PhD. I have seen people doing their PhD at the age of 30/35 or even more. But there are always few problems associated with it.
Since you still start your PhD at 27, considering the Indian scenario, you will finish by 32-33 years. Then you might have to marry and look a settled life, which is a bit difficult just after the end of PhD (you have to do some postdoc as well). Also, IITs, NITs, Research Lab have a cap of 35 years (but not the UGC affiliated universities) for recruitment of assistant professor/scientists, so that might also create a job related tension in your head.
Rest is your choice, analyse your situation and choose the best.
      Regards,
      Monu

Just try to keep a CGPA of around 9.0 or 9.5
The M.Sc marks will decide your selection.

I also had the same situation.
I liked math very much. Physics was my second priority. But at that time I thought, if I take Physics, I will get know things physically and anyway math will be always there with Physics. Now I am happy with my decision.😁

Crack IIT-JAM or JEST ...and get into direct PhD programs after graduation...if you want to go abroad then crack GRE and GRE-Physics.

Sir if a student do M.SC then goes for M.TECH and after that for PHD, then will he/she be applicable for direct SRF or not ?? Bcz Min age limit for JRF is 28 and suppose he/she is over 28 years after completing M.TECH. plz Reply sir 🙏

Crack JRF before 28. You can wait till 2 yrs before you can activate the fellowship. Complete Mtech within that time.
