I've been to Bermuda 6 times and absolutely love the place! The most valuable tip I can offer is, avoid the cruise ship crowds if at all possible. Once you get stuck in a horde of tourists, you might as well have gone to Disney World. Bermuda is not like most other island destinations...it is not like the majority of Caribbean islands because it's not in the Caribbean. It's in the Atlantic. There are no casinos. It is not known for its nightclubs. It is known for its tranquility, natural beauty and a touch of Britishness. (I hope that's a word.) Again, as to the cruise ships, IMHO you should fly to Bermuda, not cruise there. Why spend a good portion of your vacation time going to, and coming back from, your vacation?
The "tips" in this video were ok but seem to be directed to people cruising to Bermuda. Per my thoughts above, not a good idea. Second, it would have been better if alternate beaches were identified (if one should avoid Horseshoe Bay, as suggested). Third, no recommendations for food or restaurants? Fourth, the buses and ferries are good, but why not rent a scooter for a day or two? Great way to explore and avoid the "hordes" (see above).
One recommendation: Drive/walk/taxi in the evening (after dark) to Gibbs Hill Lighthouse in Southhampton Parish. Sit at the foot of the lighthouse and watch the stars as the beams of light from the lighthouse shine through them. Miraculous! Because Bermuda is 650 miles away from the US, the light "pollution" is extremely dim allowing you to see massive amounts of stars. Just beautiful.
    Beautifully scenic place. Enjoy!

      @larrysmole3592 2 года назад +1

My apologies. Hadn't been to Bermuda in a few years so wasn't aware that the law had been changed to allow casinos. My mistake. I hope this change doesn't alter the essential character of the place.

@Larry Smole: Ideally, I would love to be able to take a ship from the mainland of the U.S. to Bermuda, but not stay on the ship with the cruise hordes. I just hate small airplanes. Do you know if there are any good ships that just go back and forth. And if you do, are the ships that do that able to handle the seas well? I have read so much about seasickness on at least the New York to Bermuda round trip cruises.

I will never ever forget seeing Tobacco Bay beach for the first time walking over the incline and looking down into the inlet!

Bermuda is one of those places that sound more legendary than real - maybe because we only really ever hear the words is when 'Bermuda triangle' is mentioned. I've never even realised it's a tourist place! I LOVE that they don't allow franchises - yes! Support local people and local businesses. Really great tips, too.

I spent 3 years in Bermuda back in the early 90s - I loved it!
Yes - it's expensive. As was said, Bermuda is for the 'newly wed, the nearly dead and the filthy rich'. :)
Be sure to to exchange your Bermudian dollars before leaving the island. Since it is not a sovereign nation, there is no exchange offered outside of Bermuda.
The Buses are AWESSOME and used to be Pink.
    There's always a Breeze.
You can see the water from just about everywhere.
Bermuda is in the middle of the Atlantic, just about every bit of coast has beach.
    Try Barrit's Ginger Beer - it's awesome.
    Have a Dark 'n Stormy - Barrit's Ginger Beer and Gosling's rum.
Make sure to go to the Swizzle Inn.
St. George's on the west end of the island is lovely.
Don't leave any food/drink uncovered anywhere - the ants WILL find it.

Yeah all islands are fairly pricey. The secluded beaches were really nice 👌

One good way to save money is to buy food at the grocery store and have a picnic, either on the beach or in your hotel room. Sure the grocery store prices are still pretty expensive compared to elsewhere (unless you live in Manhattan, San Francisco or Honolulu) but it's still a bargain compared to restaurants. The Shell station in Hamilton has quite an array of decent fast food options too and can be a good late-night option or if you're in a hurry and don't want to go for the time and expense of a sit-down meal.

I just went to Bermuda a few months ago and I must say I’m glad I did. My crystal cave experience didn’t look anything like this lol. And of course my experience was different as I didn’t take a cruise there. And yes the island is super expensive and something to be prepared for.

These are some great tips and recommendations. We've been to Bermuda some 4 years ago and we loved it. We found it to be really its own thing. I wasn't aware of the ban on franchises though, that's interesting. You made a great video! New friends and fellow travelers over here :-)

I like banning franchises on islands who wants a Burger King when on a exotic place. We’re going this month for the first time. Thanks and follow us along. ❤️🏝

I love the corner from where you speak! The cover behind you is so nice and colorful!!! Did you do it?
Bermuda seems really expensive... even the price of veggies is super high!
So cool there's no franchising!!! I don't like those places as they are all so equal wherever you go, so it does not make a lot of sense traveling far to find the same thing you can find everywhere else...
The beach you show at minute 6 something is super nice!!! I understand why is always busy...

Thank you! Yes this is my at home office, and I did make that blanket :) Yes, some things in Bermuda were especially expensive - and some things weren't too bad. I also liked that they didn't have franchises - better to try the local specialties.

Bermuda has lots of free activities and you can find reasonably priced food just like anywhere else in the world. The hotels are no more than any other comparable island. Bermuda is super clean though unlike many other islands.

Awesome tips Sara. Very informative. The Twizzie looks so cute. I can imagine me and my hubby driving in that vehicle hehe. Would love to visit Bermuda someday. Very nice place. The beaches are our favorite. Those clear blue waters 😍
