I don’t get why things that happened 3500 years ago matter to the Israel-Palestinian issue? The US was colonized only 400 years ago. That doesn’t even matter.

Some of the comments raise interesting points. If the Bible is NOT the word of God, then why continue giving deference to Judaism, Christianity and Islam? These religions are behind many political policies and armed conflicts in today's world. People are being killed and oppressed over a false belief system. To this day, fundamentalists, in all three faiths, have denied the findings and conclusions of critical scholarship that the Bible is not God's word. To openly say the BIble is not God's word is to invite public censure , ostracization, and physical attacks from Bible defenders.

Of course if you were to go into a church and openly say the Bible is not God's word, you wouldn't get a warm reception. However in the west, I can't see you getting physical attacks from anyone. You would be applauded in China, or ignored, you may have trouble in the middle east, depending on where you are, in a lot of other countries (like the old USSR) people may wonder what you were talking about and why you were talking about it. In all cases, bar a few, you wouldn't be ostracized unless you had a particular family of origin which didn't support your view, in that case your family may ostracize you. That being said, many people get ostracized by many groups for believing things. Flat earthers are often ostracized, as are people of color (at least in the US), and people of different casts (in India). In terms of public censure, I can't see that happening, plenty of people talk that way and are not censured but as I said, it depends on what you mean by 'openly', are you planning on announcing it from a street corner, or shouting it out in front of your friends?

Because 1. it is the foundation of the society you live in. (when you try to remove it, you end up with ideologies which claim a "year zero" and horrors of "biblical" proportions take place.) 2. "The Bible" was never god's words. It was Hebrews/Israelis/Jews' library of its history/myth/worldview. (Paul's) Christianity and Islam are ancillary to "the bible." 3. As for "conflict" humanity cannot exist without conflict. Anyone with a child knows this.

At 2:59 of this video we are informed that the Bible was written by Ezra, in the Persian period, as claimed by a Dr. Philip Davies, a British scholar. The problem? If Ezra wrote the Bible (the Primary History,: Genesis-2 Kings), why did Ezra make a liar out of Moses? Moses is presented as predicting the future, Israel is to go into Exile for offending God, but, after national repentance (De 30:1-10), in the Exile (circa 587-539 BC), God will restore his people to their Promised Land, and their prosperity will exceed that of their forefathers. The books of Ezra and Nehemiah actually make a liar of Moses, showing him to be a false prophet. How so? The Jews are castigated by Ezra for violating the Sabbath and marrying foreign women (Ezra 9, 10). This is not a people who have repented in the Exile, and proved themselves worthy of a restoration to their land! God has allowed un-repentant people to return to the Promised Land, something Moses claimed would not happen. Moses said repentance had to precede restoration. Ergo, for me, Ezra did not write Genesis-2 Kings. That is to say the Primary History (Genesis- 2 Kings) is NOT a post-Exilic creation, as claimed by Philip Davies, it is Exilic. How so? The last verses in 2 Kings speak of the Babylonian king Evil Merodach releasing from prison the exiled Jewish King. Babylonian records reveal Evil Merodach reigned circa 562-560 BC when he was assassinated in a palace putsch. He was succeeded by three later Babylonian Kings. ERGO, for me Genesis-2 Kings is an EXILIC CREATION of circa 562-560 BC. The proof is Moses' failed prophecy of a repentant Nation returning to the land. Nehemiah mentions Sabbath violations (Neh 13:15-22) of a restored unrepentant nation.
