Losing a pet and grieving six months later is neither silly nor unusual. I lost Elmo 5 years ago and sometimes I still just have to sit with it. I still talk to his photo on the fridge, tell him I love him, tell him that he can't have the cheese. Goose was family and a good friend, she was beautiful and you get to grieve her whenever you want. Love.

If you aren't depending on the RUclips algorithm gods for your income, then just post what and when (or if) you want to! I am always glad to see your vid pop up in my feed and love hearing what you have to say. I think knowing I'm watching something that you would have rather not done would make me sad. I don't like the thought of you posting because you had to feed the hungry algorithm. So if the inspiration strikes weekly or only twice a year, most of us will be here to watch. It's great to see you thriving!
RE: goals and such... I'm a "no 5 or 10 year plan" gal. I had a friend tell me that I'm constantly learning and taking things in and exploring, so that when life hands me a twist (good or bad), I'm able to roll with it and say, "This is what I'm doing now." I also don't get disappointed when things don't turn out as expected... because I never have a vision of expectations!

My cat passed away 10 years ago this november. I think about him constantly still. Its ok to be sad about losing a pet for a long time. I know other people dont get it, but it is really hard to lose someone that has been with you for years, doesnt matter if its an animal, theyre part of your family too (dare i say, more important than most family members)

You said it better than I could have. I really didn't think I would adopt another dog after mine died last year. I still feel that pain. And you're right, they can be more important that most family members, even if you're really close with your family. Because our pets depend on us for so much and we depend on them for emotional support, the relationship is intense and deep. I hope your heart has been refilled with all the great memories you had with your cat.

It’s been amazing to watch her evolution over the years. DailyGrace era was more humor masking or self depreciating remarks as opposed to the more honest and reflective phase she’s moved into lately. Grace has always had a positive impact on the internet but everything she’s talked about in this video is really respectable and setting a great example for people to take care of themselves and not be afraid of their feelings.

Dear Grace, I'm so happy that you're making content regularly again! I get that it's stressful to have to keep up an energy and enthusiasm to keep posting, but from what I have seen from the people leaving comments, we just want YOU to do what YOU want to do! Sharing what you love and talking to us about what's on your mind is pure gold to us. I've watched you for a decade and a half (holy cow!) and I have loved to follow you in good and bad times. They have a tendency of hitting me the same time that they're hitting you. I hope that your next year will be exponentially better than this year! Oh, and as a European I'm mourning not being able to see your show. But that's my fault, I wasn't born the right place. I shouldn't have chose to do that. Anyway, love to you and your loved ones!

I resonate with the sadness felt in regards to losing pets. I lost what I consider to be one of the soul dogs in my life in april last year, just one week prior to my birthday.
Everyone in the family commented how a 6'2 giant could be so gentle to a 1.3Kg yorkshire terrier, and it was quite easy to explain - she was born in our home, rejected by her mother for being so tiny, and survived only because I stubbornly forced the mom to feed her. Despite some slight health problems as she got older, she made it to almost 14 years of age. We were inseparable, every family birthday and christmas event had at least one picture of me with her on my lap. I knew I'd lose her and I knew it'd hurt a lot.
We rarely get to think about how present they are, how much they help us deal with our emotions, what life becomes without them until we face that reality. Losing a family member saddens me, but losing a pet that was born and died by my side, every single day of its life, is a heart shattering experience, and it still makes me cry to this day. You just learn to convert those tears of sadness into tears of joy, reaching out to all the memories of happiness that you shared and feeling lucky for the ability to experience all of it, no matter what happened in your life during that time.
Despite all of this, and now owning 3 adopted cats for the first time, I couldn't last more than a month without another dog. It's my way of celebrating all the special animals I lost, to pass their love to a new family member of my house. I understand that everybody's different and they process loss differently, it's just my way of honouring their memory.
Lots of love to you and best of luck to all of us, navigating this uncertain path of life. Also, the internet really is weird huh? I think the thought comes with age x) not old, *experienced*

One of the best ways to cope with the loss of someone, as i've been told, is to
    A. Try and shift your perspective and think how privileged was i to even get to share those years w that person/pet. Although those years are past me, i'm lucky to have known unconditional love like that.
    B. The best way to honor a loved one, who's passed away, is to carry their legacy forward. Make sure you share the love, kindness and kinship that you received from this person/pet w someone else, in the same fervor and tenacity. Be the same figure to someone else, that they were to you. Celebrate their life by honoring their legacy.

My cat passed away six years ago, but he came up and laid at my feet before he did. I was stuck in that loop of figuring out he was gone, reliving those moments, over and over again for months. We'd only had him for two years.
One of the only things that helped me accept how enormously sad I felt about it was that my heart didn't care that he was just a pet, or that we hadn't had him that long, relatively speaking. I really loved him, and when he was gone my heart couldn't tell the difference between that and losing a human relative. He was my baby, and even though it's been six years it still hurts if I dwell on it for too long.
The grief didn't go anywhere, for me it just got easier to carry. All that to say, 100% agreed on holding space for your grief. It was the only way that I could learn to live with it.

I wanted to comment on what you were saying about Goose. I lost my cat November last year, it was really quick we didn't expect it but she was quite old, and I still feel sad even though it's been over a year. I'm so used to certain things like having to close doors and not being able to leave food out on surfaces that when I do this and remember there's that pang. Pets are our family, and thus you don't have to feel at all bad and it's absolutely perfectly normal to be sad still because you loved her deeply. You're allowed to be sad for as long as you're sad. Loss is really difficult. Also this comment is super long but I just also wanted to let you know I really really appreciate your honesty about the difficulty you've been having making content, I feel like that was probably hard to admit, but we're (cause I'm sure I speak for many others) here for whatever you wanna give in whatever capacity you wanna give that. We're here to support you as a person, not in any one specific way. You've gotta do what works best for you, and as someone who's been a supporter of yours since 2011, I'm here for Grace the person not just Grace the content creator.

thank you for this beautiful comment. and yes - getting used to doors and other things *not* having to be a certain way anymore is so strange. every time I drop food on the floor I rush to clean it up and then get that PANG. it hurts but then I also think at least I don't have to worry about whether or not she's going to have diarrhea from whatever the fuck she just scarfed 🙃

The bit about setting boundaries and being discerning about self care really resonates with me. It is a lesson, now that I’m cresting into mid 30s, I am continuing to learn. The urge to get a ticket at the disassociation station and log my brain off is so strong most of the time, but that rarely (albeit sometimes) makes me feel genuine fulfillment and joy. Learning to appreciate the mundane things (moisturizing, slow jogs, hot cups of coffee, simple conversations with loved ones) is a work and progress.
It is fascinating to grow up with creators like Grace and follow a similar trajectory. Probably a niche audience to target, but it does feel less isolating to hear someone else in the process of learning the same lessons.
Best of luck on the comedy show! 5:23

Of COURSE I'm talking to myself - and not just about the instrument. Every time I go home, I have to remember that she won't be there. Sometimes I think I hear her walking around, but it's not her. It's incredibly hard and I'm glad more people are talking about it. They are family members. I have my own dog now and I've had her since she was 6 weeks old. She's 9 now. I'm hoping we have at least 6 more years together, but...that one is going to be ROUGH. if it's possible (and if it's something you want, ofc!) then maybe you could combine the two and record your live stand up shows and post on youtube? maybe you've already had this idea! either way, whatever you choose to post on RUclips I will watch 💙

Feel free to just share your thoughts with us as you want to, Grace. :) I think most people in the community are old enough and mature enough to understand that we can all just have a little convo and not take each other's word as gospel. I wouldn't worry too much about whether or not you're qualified to share advice or however you want to say that. Back in the day we all used to have little chats about life and what we've learned for ourselves and I think it's just human nature to want that.
It's such an interesting thing to have a big platform. It's all in how you use it. I think the people who end up "influencing" keep their following very much at arms length, outside looking in. On the flip side, when you're down to Earth with your viewers and just simply talk to them in a normal fashion, it comes across as more of a chat and less of a person with a big following telling others what to do. It's all in the tone and the vibe you create with the community! And you've got yours locked down already! 🎉
The Internet is very strange. Did you know your face is on my phone in my bedroom in Virginia right now? How did you get in here?!! Don't look at the mess! I'll get to folding those clothes on the chair laterrrrrr

Also... The massage chair at my mall always poked you right in the butthole. I did massage chair once and never again, like D.A.R.E. for massage chairs.

I like what you said about self care.. that’s got me thinking so thank you. I’ve been struggling lately with feeling like I there’s something wrong with me when my friends are pumped about ice baths and yoga and mindfulness and I feel like I’m being miserable if I decline but it’s just not for me. Gonna look deeper to find my own thing 🙏🏻

Thank you for talking about Goose. I've just had to say goodbye to my 16 year old pup, Spyder, yesterday. Like all of my pets, he was, and still is, family. I know from experience that I will carry the sadness of this loss forever, but I also know that I will remember the joy he brought into my life forever. I hope that you will continue to feel your feelings about Goose. They are not silly. They are a part of you. Be well, Grace.

I really don't think there's anything silly about still feeling sad about losing a pet. Love is love and it doesn't matter that intellectually you know you'll probably outlive them, love doesn't follow a logical schedule. I think the important thing is to try and understand that while the loss will never fully heal, the love you gained from the selfless way pets give us their love makes our hearts grow greater than their loss and so the whole thing was worth it in the end. It's amazing and its hard and its hard to put into words that don't sound silly but the feelings? Nah never silly!

As a fellow Weekly Upload challenger... yeah, it's forced me to stay consistently productive, but like, by becoming a video-producing machine instead of getting around to all my other life goals. I don't know how much more I'd be getting done otherwise, but at least I know I'm doing something now.

    Hey Grace,
You mentioned being stressed about putting out a video every Friday; do you think maybe you could meet yourself somewhere in the middle where, instead of posting a video every week, you just did an hour or two of Livestream? That way you're spending less time thinking and worrying about content, but also, you're not letting yourself down and still getting content out?
    Just a thought.
I love you and your content since the Grace & Michelle days.
Whatever you do I believe in you!
