I was working in a movie theater when this came out, and this was actually effective. I watched people literally hang their heads in shame while going back to pick up their trash. So thank you, Ryan Reynolds, for that.
My 2nd ex-husband was a projectionist at a movie theatre.
I saw a couple people in my two-screen, locally-owned cinema turn around to grab their trash, but only if they didn’t have to take more than three or four steps back to their seats. You’d think in a small town where just about everyone knows each other, your customers would be better behaved without admonishment, but no.
I worked at a dine in restaurant movie theater and it was awesome that this helped out cleanups
The thing about Deadpool is his cancer isn’t healed..He just regenerates faster than the cancer replicates…In one comic they try to clone him to make an army but his DNA is riddled with cancer but the clones had no regeneration abilities so all died.
In the comics, the constant flux between the healing factor and the cancer is the reason he’s crazy. It’s been retconned again and again, but that was the initial story.
too bad this story actually makes no sense. cancer isn't an injury that needs to be healed; it's out of control growth that needs to be stopped.

I went to a convention once where Morena Baccarin was signing autographs, and someone brought a life size Deadpool statue for her to sign. She was so impressed, she took it with her to get Ryan Reynolds to sign it and then ship it back to the fan.
Also, she signed its ass.

So fun fact: Deadpool in the comics always broke the 4th wall. He's essentially a comic book character who knows he's a comic book character and talks to us, the readers/viewers often. And he's pretty unkillable. He can regenerate if even a small piece of himself is intact. This movie was pretty much true to Deadpool in the comics.
Most of the time he is LITERALLY unkillable. Deadpool has a relationship with Death, who Thanos has a crush on. Thanos made Deadpool immortal to keep them apart
In one of the games one of his ultimate moves is to smack the opponent around with his own healthbar.

X Men First Class -> X Men 1-3, The Wolverine and the present of DoFP are all on one timeline
Then the past in DoFP changes the timeline, erasing 1-3, and leading into Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix
And then its my assumption that Logan happens way later, because Essex corp takes his DNA in DoFP
And X Men Origins is explicitly not canon
It only seems confusing cause theres a lot of those movies and DoFP alone takes place on two timelines
But if you actually try to think about it its not even confusing

And in X-Men 3, when he is getting Jean to come to the school, he is also walking even though that also happened after X-Men First Class.

Fun fact: Theatres reported after showings of deadpool there was noticeably less garbage for them to have to clean up. Him telling the audience to take it with them in the post credits actually worked.
It's so unfair that white people now have to share our countries with people who actually have to be told to clean up their garbage.
In case you didn't know, one of Deadpool's "superpowers" is that he does break the 4th wall ALL THE TIME. But it's also in world. Everyone else thinks he's crazy because he talks to no one all the time but he's also used it to his advantage by "peeking ahead" in his comics. :D

The after-credit scene with DP in a bathrobe is actually a parody of a scene in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" (including the "chicka-chickaaa" thing)...which is a movie you should definitely watch!

Funny, how Stan Lee always used alliterations for the names of his characters: Peter Parker, Reed Richards, Bruce Banner, Matt Murdoch, J Jonah Jameson Jr. and of course Ryan Reynolds. Just genius to help remember them better.
Don't forget Wade Winston Wilson. BTW in the late 1970's there was a TV series called the Incredible Hulk that I watched as a kid. Bruce Banner's name was changed to David Banner in order to move it away from the comic source material that often used alliterative names. Also, because the TV writer's son was name "David".

In the comics, he got the name "Deadpool" because the scientists had a betting pool in the lab he was given his powers in as to whether each of their test subjects would die, and he "won" the pool by surviving. There is also a Clint Eastwood movie called "The Dead Pool" about a similar betting pool.
And if you didn't get the joke in the end credits scene, you need to go watch "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"
Funniest thing about the Ferris Bueller bit is that was the first movie to have an end credits scene.
Fun fact: Ryan Reynolds loves Deadpool, the character, and was extremely excited to play him in Wolverine. He was so disappointed by how Deadpool was written in that movie, that he was one of the major pushes to get financing for this movie.
He also has a friendly feud with Hugh Jackman, which is why he put his face under the mask.
Ryan and Hugh's "feud" has been one of my favorite aspects of this franchise.
Also the Jackman and Reynolds feud is perfect for these movies because in the comics Deadpool has a rivalry with Wolverine

It's not explicitly explained whether the events of Deadpool exist in the mainline X-Men, but this version of Colossus seems more inspired by the comics. In some runs, he's always got the metal skin and is like 8ft tall.
Plus he's Russian. It never made sense to have Colossus be American like he was in the X-Men movies.
Even the X-Men movies have a messed up contradictory timeline, so it's pretty easy to accept Deadpool as its own thing.

The post credit is a "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" post credit reference. That is also a very funny movie where Matthew Broderick breaks the 4th wall.

The constant one-liners and witty jokes and snappy comebacks help to make the extreme gore & violence palatable; even the violence itself gets slapstick at times.

There's a big back story to how Deadpool came to be. The writer of the comics name dropped Reynolds to describe the character and when Reynolds got into the comics he realized he had so much in common with the character he made it his mission to get the movie made. Years ago Fox commissioned a concept video for it, with Reynolds, but then they shelved the project. Because they're idiots.
Thankfully **someone** (definitely NOT Reynolds but maybe someone who looked a lot like him) leaked that original video online and the audience went crazy. Allegedly Fox received so many demands to make the movie they decided there was an audience for it after all.
It cost $58 million to make, but has earned more than $700million globally and is ranked 35th most successful action movie of all time.
So many years ago I read the Deadpool comic where Deadpool said he looked like Ryan Reynolds crossed with a Shar Pei.
I still have it, in a box with many other comics I collected.
It was an amazing thing, a character in a comic book naming an actor to play him and then it happening.
I console myself around the abomination of Deadpool from the Wolverine movie by believing the sword swinging Wade Wilson character was actually the same as this movie, but the end Deadpool character was someone else with his skill implanted, like the powers were.
Definitely not Ryan Reynolds but someone who had his watermarked copy of the video..... ;)
@@highlander31527 I think there was an issue of the Avengers comics where they disuss who would play them in a movie, and they do say Nick Fury would be played by Samuel L Jackson.
@@JeanLoupGarou The first appearance of Nick Fury in the Ultimates comic book universe was based on SLJ without discussion or contact. When Samuel was made aware, he contacted Marvel and said he would not sue and would be fine with the continued use as long as he was guaranteed the role when the movie was made. This was years before Marvel Studios was even on the drawing board.
The backstory behind this labour of love is as good as the movie itself. Honestly, just so so perfect.
All of us who saw this in theatres knew exactly what it was supposed to be, and it delivered 100%.
edit: It was so pleasing to see you watch and react to the humor in the exact way the delivery intended. Behind the scenes wise, this was the first R rated xmen movie, and 100% was the reason that 'Logan' got an R rating, leading it to be the masterpiece that it is.
I first saw Deadpool in the cinema and it was packed full. In the scene with the Zamboni when he said “I’m going to kill you….in five minutes” I laughed out loud and the lady sitting next to me gave me the dirtiest look. Love this film, the second one is great too.
Yes Deadpool breaks the 4th wall all the time in the comics. He’s aware that he’s a comic book character. He interacts with his thoughts bubbles and the reader all the time and the other characters just think he’s crazy.
My favourite use of this is in Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe when Professor X reads his mind, and learns the truth. It is brutal.
He’s not even the first prominent marvel character to do so. She-Hulk predates him in this manner.
DC had a Charactor with Deadpool's Style and Sense of Humor... "Ambush Bug"!
The reason Ryan Reynolds became such good friends with Betty White was that in the pioneering days of television(1954), Betty was one of the creators of and the lead actor in one of the earliest sitcoms; "Life with Elizabeth". In it she basically invented the fourth wall, and the breaking of it as a comedic device.
By reacting to Deadpool this week, you're actually paying an excellent tribute to the memory of Betty White.
@@andrewli6606 She-Hulk and Howard the Duck both regularly broke the fourth wall, but they tended to do it as an aside unacknowledged by the other characters in their books. More like Zack from Saved by the Bell. Deadpool breaks the fourth wall in-universe and all the other characters respond appropriately. There was one Spider-Man comic where he fights Spidey physically and with words (it eventually devolves into a "yo mamma off", cause Deadpool), and just as DP's about to deploy his secret weapon the alarm on his watch goes off and he reveals he'd just been hired to distract Spidey for a few hours, and as he's teleporting away he shouts "but don't think that means I'm gonna take it easy on you when you guest in my issue 16!" and Spidey's just starring after him going "What the hell does that mean?!"
The "Deadpool" in the first Wolverine movie was awful and about the opposite of the comic book character. That is why Ryan Reynolds was determined to get this accurate version made. Yes, he even breaks the fourth wall on the comics and is aware he is in a comic book.

Some memories came back watching that. When the movie came out I was working in a movie theatre and we used to get screenings for the colleagues on midnight the day before the movies came out and the theatre was closed for the public. When we watched Deadpool everyone loved it and we laughed so hard. When that end credit scene came and he said „don’t leave your garbage lying around“, all of us started cheering and applauding to the screen :D guests of movie theatres can leave so much shit lying around.
Fun fact: Ryan Raynolds is mentioned, by name, in the Deadpool comic. It's the scene where his friend just roasts his appearance - and he says that Wade like "like Ryan Reynolds crossed with a shar-pei".

Fun fact that has probably already been mentioned in the comments: the final fight between DP and Francis was supposed to be a much larger, shootout-style set piece, but the production had its budget slashed before they could film it, so they added in DP "forgetting" his bag of guns as a nod to it.
An it probably was for the best.
They also probably could have had the big shootout fight if they hadn't had to get the rights for the Bea Arthur shirt he's wearing at the apartment in the beginning.

This is the more comic book accurate Deadpool, and the one in the Wolverine movie was an attempt at something new, but ended being a monumental mistake.
While technically it's own thing, divorced from the xmen timeline etcetc, Deadpool is absolutely one of the best xmen movies. Just completely nailing its tone in every respect and really committing to the ethos and style of Deadpool as a character. Genuinely one of the best comic book movies to date and a joy to watch, imo only two movies in the franchise match up to it, and only one surpasses it.

I'm sure it's been mentioned but breaking the fourth wall is a very characteristic Deadpool thing in the comics. I personally love that they decided to include it in the movies because it wouldn't have felt right without it in my opinion.
Colossus is Russian in the comics but they made him American for the early X-Men films for some reason. So this interpretation is how he should be and yeah it’s the same character 😊

A couple of fun facts. The highway scene was actually the test footage created to get the film greenlit. The other fun fact is the "forgot the guns" thing was intentionally done to keep the budget down.
Ah, being in a somewhat similar position I was going to mention the importance of core strength for stabilising the back - failing that, disprin (or asprin) seems to help a lot as it dilates the bloodvessels, improving the bloodflow and reduces both the inflammation and lactic build-up while also getting oxygen rich blood to the muscles.
Might not help in your circumstances, but for me it's a lot better than most other 'pain' medications. As they work differently, you could combine them, if required...
Oh, DP2 is just as good, unlike most sequels.

Bob, the minion he knocks out instead of killing, is a reference to a character from the comics who's a generic HYDRA minion/mook whom Deadpool basically kidnaps and forces to kind of be his sidekick. Since the X-Men movies couldn't use other Marvel concepts like HYDRA, he was included here as a friend from Wade's Special Forces days instead an easter egg.

In the comics one of the odd "powers" Deadpool has is the realization he's a character in a comic book - and he breaks the 4th wall all the time.
Deadpool is always aware of whatever medium he's in; comics, movies, videogames...
She-Hulk is also aware she's in a comic. Deadpool references what issue he last saw Bullseye, but She-Hulk literally runs through the ad pages between panels to catch criminals.
@@Falcun21 She-hulk is a little different though, it's a nod to the fact that she helps with publishing the comics IN the marvel universe, and those comics are used all the time in court cases as evidence of the events that happened in "real-life" super hero events. So she's not really 'aware of the comics' in the sense that she knows they're in OUR world. They are in HER world. Deadpool understands he IS a comic character in OUR world. And in the marvel universe it's passed off as insanity.
Years and years ago, someone (probably Ryan Reynolds) leaked test footage from this movie. Apparently the studio wasn't going to approve of the movie, so someone leaked cgi footage to the internet. It went viral, and everyone who saw it was begging the studio to make the movie. After a short time, I gave up and figured it would never happen. The next year, they announced they were in production for Deadpool. This movie is the product of the grass-roots efforts of Ryan Reynolds and fans to make this movie and the Deadpool character the right way.
It was the scene where he drops into the motorcade - Rob Liefield showed it at a Con, then Fox shelved it for 4 years. 24hrs after the "leak" the film was Greenlit, from fan response.
Ryan Reynolds confirmed he leaked it.

Watching parents take their kids out if the theater after the pegging scene will never stop making me laugh. They really thought it was just another Marvel superhero movie. The fact that they waited until the scene was over made it even funnier.

This version of Deadpool is more accurate to the comics. The first time he was portrayed in live action, it was essentially insulting to anyone who knew who Deadpool was before.

I still am disapointed in this Deadpool that they have him doing the narration. It might be a bit weird in the movies to have one, like who would even do the part? But I like how in the comics and game that the narrator is like a character Deadpool talks to.

Expectations like such often lead to disappointments.
It's perfectly in line with the Deadpool character from the comics. He is aware in the comics that he IS in a comic, which is the reason why he constantly breaks the 4th wall in the comics as well. He is also perfectly, utterly insane, and doesn't even know what HE is going to do next, making him completely unpredictable. He simply acts on impulse without thinking about it. He also jokes about different timelines as well because he is perfectly aware at certain times that there are multiple cross-overs, timelines, whatever, but then he conveniently forgets about that fact soon after. He is so wondergully, utterly random, and Ryan Reynolds is perfect in this role.
I don't think I've ever laughed more than when I saw this in the theater.

Ryan Reynolds is a Canadian treasure, you should definitely watch anything with him in it.
One of the fun things about the character of Deadpool is that whatever medium he shows up in he almost always shows some amount of fourth wall awareness. Him talking to the camera in this movie is something Deadpool fans needed to be authentic to the character.
Ryan Reynolds is a world treasure, and Canada should be super proud to have produced him. (And maybe keep everyone focusing on him instead of Bieber...)

Yeah, Deadpool is one of the few characters fully aware that they're a fictional character. She Hulk is also aware, which makes cross overs between her and Deadpool extra hilarious.

Deadpool in general is supposed to break the 4th wall, as that's his character. In fact, in many iterations he goes as far as to beat his enemies down with health bars in video games, and address the reader in his comics. Actually, its very toned down in the movies compared to his other appearances.
Saw it the week it came out, and the audience was right into it when those credits rolled. Such a great feeling to be in that crowd for this...
The characters in this one or at least Colossus and Deadpool are more accurate to the comics or at least more true to what fans think of when they recall these characters than the other x-men movies... so thats why colossus is so different than the character in the other movies. Also Deadpool as a character learned he was a fictional character and so breaks the 4th wall. I think when folks heard Ryan Reynolds was cast as DP in the wolverine flick they were excited hoping for this... and its a major portion of the disappointment with that film what they did to the character despite perfect casting.
Exactly. The colossus in the X-Men movie looked like a regular dude that was made out of metal. The colossus in the comics was alot bigger than a normal sized dude. From what I remember he was slightly smaller than comic book hulk and comic book hulk is alot bigger than the one in the mcu.

Deadpool breaks the 4th wall in the comics all the time. Also this Colossus is more comics-accurate and the continuity is kind of irrelevant because Deadpool can always joke away any inconsistencies.
I think the best possible explanation for this new version of Deadpool is the fact that the timeline was changed in Days of Future Past. Then again, Fox didn't seem to really care about timeline consistency lol.
The most important is that it made _X-Men Origins: Wolverine_ non-canon.

Because it's not the typical movie relationship, it feels more real and sincere.
They have both had fucked up pasts and their coping mechanism is humour so, while they have possibly the healthiest relationships in all of superhero movies, it might appear to some as fucked up.
I was so happy they stuck to the source material, even keeping all the over-the-top violence in lieu of shooting for a PG-13 rating. His breaking the fourth wall is straight from the comic books. Ryan Reynolds was made for this role.
So many people are too young to realize that end credits scene is a parody of the end credits scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Which is a fun movie you should see if you haven't watched it.
In Deadpool 2, he breaks the 4th wall to address his horrible character in the Wolverine movie directly. You'll like it.

And the way they've established his character in these movies they could easily drop him into any of the others in the bigger franchise. He only really breaks the fourth wall with us, not involving other characters. It would be a great opportunity for little comedic moments in the other movies without being overwhelming or changing the feel of them. Not that I really care if he pops up in those, I think I'd prefer the movies where it's all about Deadpool.

In the comics he breaks the 4th wall constantly, he's actually cosmicly aware of existence and multiple realities which is how he's able to talk to the reader since he knows they are there.
the end scene with him in the bathrobe is a reference to "Ferris Beuler's Day Off', where the main character does the same thing in the end scene
Deadpool is honestly my favorite movie of ALL time! Ryan Reynolds fits him so perfectly!
This is comic-accurate Deadpool, like the one I grew up with in the 90s. He's known for his constant humor, fourth-wall breaking, foul language, and violence. His healing factor is just like Wolverine's, and that's because they were both in the Canadian military and involved in the Weapon X program. His powers are his own.
He's definitely an R-rated anti-hero, and a departure from the Marvel norm. Origins was a studio debauchery of Deadpool. Even Ryan Reynolds, a newer fan (somewhere around 2015) slammed their handling of that. You might catch a nudge at that in DP 2. :) I gotta give a lot of credit to Ryan for this one. Without his pressure on the studios, and being a genuine fan, it never woulda happened, and us fellow fans woulda been left with Origins. That's a real-life hero right there. lol
The entire time he was asking people for their boss, he kept asking for "Frances" and everyone was legitimately saying they didn't know who, since they all knew him as Ajax.
The final battle was on top of a helicarrier from the MCU.
This movie had so many things in its way: studio didn't want to make it, but kind of had to after the test cinematic was leaked (maybe by Reynolds), once in production the budget kept getting cut (the leaving all the guns in the taxi scene was due to that), and was given a February release date to try and stymy ticket sales.
And yet it still became a classic!

I am SO looking forward to watching you view Deadpool 2. I'm a senior with respiratory issues & the pandemic has me in an isolation I never could have imagined which sux because I love sharing a movie experience with someone particularly if they've not seen it. I get to enjoy it again through their reactions (& I gotta say I adore yours-it has helped me a lot to maintain what goofy sanity remains in me). There was chatter about Academy Awards consideration for Deadpool 2 but it wasn't to be (however TONS of other awards & nominations-even for the teaser trailer that showed nothing from it despite having Stan Lee reference a scene related to the music they used in it). Note that there are two versions of it, the traditional theatrical release & what they call the Super Duper Cut (more jokes & violence), but I'm sure I'll enjoy you seeing either one. There is a potential spoiler early on with regard to the film Logan, but it's your call whether or not to see the other first (I wish I had).
FULL DISCLOSURE; I never thought a Deadpool film could make me cry.

I hope you get well soon man. I'm disabled and have nothing to do most of the time, so I also spend alot of time watching reaction videos. I like seeing people see a movie for the first time or listen to music from the 70's and 80's for the first time.
Bob was Deadpool's reluctant sidekick in the 616, he only worked as a security guard for bad guys like Hydra, AIM or Kingpin because they offered dental in their medical packages and SHIELD didn't.

So interesting notice. At the end credits Deadpool says in the sequel they’ll have cable. Everyone assumed like cable tv but in the sequel the main villain is named Cable.
