Gundog Training - Return to the Steadying Pen.

It has been a couple of months since I last managed to get 15 month old Twig in the rabbit / steadying pen and in this session I was hoping to see an improvement in her pace and drive when hunting also it was my first opportunity to begin the process of steadying her to the flush of birds. We used homing pigeons to simulate a flush and a blank firing starter pistol to “honour” the bird. I also had the chance to see how Twig would react to making a cold game retrieve to shot whilst hunting in a scenty environment. The film was shot over a period of four sessions in the pen…..
