Even though he held his own against her and could probably go toe to toe with her for a bit, he was smart enough not to risk facing Mikasa in a drawn out fight in his human form, and opted to go and get some distance for his transformation. Ppl really don’t give Bertholdt enough credit.
Bertholdt was really ahead of the curve when it came to realizing how things really were, and that’s why he had to die sadly. Everyone else in the show wasn’t ready for his realization; it’s literally none of their faults. They were forced into all this. A simple statement but it holds hella weight.
I felt zero sympathy for Bertholdt's death. if anything, I think his gruesome death matched his crime perfectly. it doesn't matter if he wanted to break down the wall or not, or if he thought it was justified or not, he and Reiner were responsible for the deaths of millions of innocent people within the walls, including erens mother.
