John literally states in You Can Count On Me that he was miserable for years, but he made it through and is happy now. Of course he wants to make more upbeat music. Trophy Eyes' music hasn't suddenly lost it's soul because there are less screamed vocals.
Earthquakes happened in my hometown Lombok Island (Indonesia) in 2018 when this song released. I listened to this song everyday to keep my mood and spirit. Thank you Trophy Eyes.

What I wish people would recognise is just how happy John is in this video. Yes, the rest of the band are not there and yes, he is wearing a crop top (which he is rocking by the way). FUCK IT. The whole point of this new album and this video is to show just how much they have all grown! In past albums the band have writen angry songs about heartbreak, loneliness and overall just feeling shitty but this is a new fucking era for them! They're at a happy point in their lives and want to share this amazing time with us, just as they shared their dark times with us. If Trophy Eyes fans aren't happy with this change, just be happy for the band and move on from listening to their music! Rant over.

No one blends a pop punk vocal register with the style of simple minds or other 80s pop bands like john. I love their old stuff and this new stuff as well.
I notcied that too, He almost has that 80s thing going on in his lower register eversince the song ''Hurt''
A little more surprised with each song, in the best way possible obviously. I just can’t wait any longer for the whole damn thing to drop.
Nothing can beat John's pure happiness and joy in this music video.
And no one has the right to tell them as a band what they can or can't do. So before you attack them or spit out some other unnecessary trash, go and become a talented musician/artist yourself and put your money where your mouth is.

I love both song and the video, tho it’s different from the previous albums 😍 it’s obvious John is happier with his life now and is less depressed, I like that. Can’t wait for the whole album, much love from Ukraine

The old stuff was the kind of stuff I could listen to in my room on a rainy day where this is more of something vapid that I would play in the car worth friends. It’s a different type of music which isn’t as memorable (sadly) but I’ll still bop to it. Hopefully the rest of the album is raw and goes harder

When John wrote the past 2 albums, he was depressed as shit. You can tell he was if you've ever listened to his solo stuff under Little Brother. I tuned in to the album premiere last night and this album sounds happy (with a couple exceptions) and it sounds like John is in a really good place in life. You guys should have seen the guys' faces watching/listening to their baby in the theatre. They looked so proud. For all of you who want Trophy Eyes to keep the same sound, you're basically saying that you want John to stay depressed and miserable. People change, and when they become happier, so does their sound.

Believe me I love "heavier" trophy eyes but I think this new direction of the band fits them very well. Any band that starts out heavy shouldn't have to chase that sound forever if they don't want to, that would just be insincere to us as fans and to themselves as musicians. That aside I'm beyond stoked for this record and can't wait to jam it from my car!
