Absolutely an amazing video, I am so happy to see this and with relevant data regarding the recent updates and changes. With a game that changes so much within the small amount of years it's been out, it's nice to see something that goes not only in detail, but also breaks it down in an easy to understand format. I look forward to more videos and more explanations of niche mechanics and tips and tricks!!
Awesome guide for newbs, Palfy! And another fine video from you.. I have been playing since 0.1, so none of this was new to me, but it's a bit overwhelming for new players to drop in and master. I had no Idea about the scum-map feature to show nearby markers.. that is super cool.. My channel has some fun Scum videos to show how to raise (and sometimes cheese your wat) skills up easy :0
I used to think this way, but over time I’ve realized that starting with advanced medical offers diminishing returns, especially for new players. Most rags you find will be below 95% quality, so the ability to use just one rag per injury is rarely utilized, even with advanced medical. Both medium and advanced medical allow you to heal a C2 with 1 rag and a C3 with 2, but the main advantage of advanced medical-using 2 bandages instead of 3 for a C4-isn’t game-changing for most situations. Medium medical covers nearly all encounters effectively, making it a more practical starting point. For experienced players, leveling skills like survival and engineering may seem easy, as they often know the most efficient techniques. However, for beginners, it’s a different story. Without cheesing the system, these skills can take more time to level, especially since crafting small items like arrows or using basic base-building elements provides minimal experience. Additionally, for someone new to the map, even obtaining a simple compass can feel overwhelming when you’re unfamiliar with crafting requirements or where to find key items. Starting with basic survival is a huge help here, giving players the ability to orient themselves and navigate the map more confidently. Most new players won’t die from injuries requiring advanced medical skills anyway. Instead, they’re more likely to be overwhelmed by puppets, suffering multiple C1 injuries, or they’ll get killed by other players-where no amount of bandaging will matter if their head’s already blown off. Early gameplay is less about healing catastrophic injuries and more about mastering the basics and learning to survive encounters. While advanced medical is undeniably useful, I believe starting with more balanced attributes and skills provides a smoother and more enjoyable experience for new players. It allows them to tackle the game’s challenges naturally, without relying on cheese or advanced leveling techniques, and focus on the fun of exploration and learning. Ultimately, the beauty of SCUM lies in its flexibility-every player can choose the skills that feel most rewarding to them. Thanks for your comment and I look forward to chatting more to you in the future!
