You have to keep in context what they cost relative to the Toyota & Honda. Deals are situational but I've owned four Elantras over the years and I've bought them all significantly discounted relative to what I could have bought either a Honda or Toyota. Hey...I love both of those vehicles and given the same price I'd pick the Honda but I just bought a 2020 Hyundai Elantra Value Edition for $13,500 brand new. There were significant incentives at the end of the year but I think for most of 2020 you could have bought an Elantra for $5K less than an equivalent Honda. In a car that is $20K that is a significant price difference. In all four of my Elantras I've never had to do anything but change the oil, filters, brakes, tires etc..etc... so their track record for cost-effectiveness is superb.

Yes. That's never made any sense to me that the luxury trim Limited doesn't have a sunroof, but the Value Edition does. Odd. Hyundai has a tendency to package their options oddly. Probably a production cost saving measure.

I hate it more when they put forward-collision avoidance assist with pedestrian detection on the 2nd highest trim level which is limited, plus you actually have to add ultimate package which is another $3500, on the other hand, Hyundai venue gives that on every trim levels as standard feature.

I own a 2019 Value Edition and love the styling change over the 2018 (not that there was anything wrong with the 2018 styling other than being a little bland). The base 2.0 4 cyl has enough power for my needs, the car feels bigger than what it actually is and it has a smooth, compliant ride and has the size of a mid sized sedan rather than a compact. All of the technology, reliability, and amenities cannot be beat for the price (right under 18k for what I paid).

Let me know how it drives with the IVT. I was happy I got it with the 6spd automatic as my mechanic told me never to get a CVT due to the costs to replace it. I've seen some 2020 test drives on here and it seems to shift just like a conventional automatic.

Bought a 2020 Elantra Limited to replace a 2007 Lexus ES - and I'm loving it. It has all the features and more that my previous car had, so I'm not missing anything. And it's half the price of a current Lexus ES. Plus, it's more fun to drive. I haven't had a car this fun to drive since my 1998 Audi A4 Quattro. The interior layout of controls and displays is spot on and easy to learn. Have had this car for over 3 months and no issues whatsoever.
This review did bring out the engine noise in the passenger compartment which is very evident under acceleration. The reviewer considers it a positive, but I consider it a negative - but it's the only negative thing I can say about the vehicle.

Well I hope the 2020 engines took care of the constant ticking sound that the 2011- 2015 had. My 2012 Elantra has 88,000 miles on it and the engine ticks like there's a lifter loose. When you change the oil the ticking goes away for awhile but it will return before the next oil change. When the engine is cold the ticking is loud but after the engine warns up the ticking quites down a bit but it doesn't go away you can still hear it. I will wait till I hear more reviews about this 2020 model from more of you private owners of the 2020 model. I value you independent owner reviews and comments on the 2020 model.

If you are the original owner, your engine is still under warranty sub 100k miles. That ticking is due to an engine manufacturing defect. Hyundai is replacing engines with those symptoms for free because they fail early due to premature internal wear. That ticking you hear is a characteristic sign.

"IVT" and CVT transmissions are notorious for breaking very early and being expensive if not impossible to repair. My father is a transmission mechanic and he always tells me never to buy anything with a CVT transmission until 3rd party parts for it become widely available. For example, Nissan is known for putting CVTs in a lot of their cars, when they break most of them are not serviceable by a 3rd party because the parts are either proprietary and they are considered unserviceable by dealership and you will pay thousands putting a new one in.

@@chriss6356 I'm leery of the new CVT in this car as well, simply because of the poor track record with CVT transmissions in general. Time will hopefully prove my fears unjustified. I'm leasing a 2020, it's a cheap, drive around bang around and throw back to the dealers when your done car. Don't buy it. Buy a Toyota. Lease a Hyundai. My complains are 1-Road noise. it lacks adequate insulation insulation 2-Steering wheel is to thin and is to light. Even in sport mode, it's increases the forces needed to turn, but it's still not a good steering wheel overall. It's underpowered. With 4 people in it who are all under 200lbs good luck merging on to the highway speeds. Gas mileage with driven the way it needs to be driven, ie in sport mode, and with the shifter in S mode, to reduce response lag and downshift time, drops from 33 mpg to 27 in the highway. City gets you 22 mpg. I don't know where they get these bullshit numbers of 40 mpg, but it's a lie. It's possible if you can to to accelerate so slow that you are a liablityly to everyone around and your risk getting rear ended, sure.

I keep the screen set to show the MPGs at all times. It helps me drive more efficiently, plus I just like seeing how high I can get it. If the MPGs now show in the touch screen, I wouldn't be able to do this if I'm using the stereo. So I don't like that.

Xenon Kyre ..... correct ...the SEL has a lot more standard equipment for only about $800 ..... it’s definitely the one to get. ..... we first went in to look at a used 2017 with only 10,000 miles .... we actually paid for it ($15,000 out the door) but was going to come back in the morning to take delivery ... then I looked at the dealers web site and realized that a brand new 2020 SE was only about $3000 more (with a 10 year power train warranty and 5 year bumper to bumper warranty) seemed like a “no brainer” to me so went back and test drove the 2020 SE .... nicer than the 2017 SE but only a 5 inch backup camera display so then I found that the SEL was only about $800 more and included auto headlights, blind spot detection, more sound insulation under the hood (much quieter than the 2017) ..also android auto and Apple car play ... quite a bit more too but I can’t think of them all so we went with the 2020 SEL ... Cost us $3750 more than the used 2017 SE and worth every penny .... total “out the door” ..$18,700 .... the 2017 would have cost us $15,000 “out the door” ...when you can get 3 model years newer and 7 years extra power train warranty and 2 years extra “bumper to bumper warranty.” Plus a bunch of highly desirable extra equipment for $3750 it was a “no brainer” for us .... and the car drives unbelievably nice and the new “IVT” transmission is great.

My 2015 se has 4 wheel disc brakes...40 mpg in town and 50 mpg steady 60-65 on highway...newer models are much lower and horrible 2.0 liter engine...this is all the time mileage in central Virginia on regular 10% ethanol gasoline

I'm amazed at the fuel economy of my 2018 Elantra. In the absolute worst of conditions such as crawling in stop and go traffic with the AC on, I average just above 30 mpg. On long interstate journeys at 70mph, it averages between 45-50 mpg. My typical city driving though, it averages 37-38 mpg. So pretty similar to what it sounds like you experience. The best I've seen yet form this car was cruising at 50mph with the windows down, it was getting 61mpg. Insane! Mind you, that wasn't a tank average, but instant MPGs.

Nope. No way guys. Dont believe the mpg computer. Do it the old fashioned way, fill the car, reset trip meter. Drive car to almost empty. Fill car, divide miles by gallons needed. THAT IS YOUR MPG. And yes, you will be disappointed. My 17 Elantra se gets approximately 29 city, 38 39 freeway. I check it this way frequently, and its always about the same.

i’ve owned my honda civic (2017) for a few years now. unfortunately crashed it so i have a 2020 elantra as my rental. i can now say how much i took for granted how well my honda handled. the elantra was atrocious at handling and the steering was so floaty. with my honda, everything was very driver focused. i can say the elantra is a good cheap car for those who don’t rly care about cars at all and just need something to get from A to B. cant wait to get my honda back because that was so fun to drive and has all the bells n whistles. no cheap plastics. i don’t trust the korean vehicle market.
