- This week turned out to be a pretty interesting one. Not only are there are lot of EV concept cars to talk about, but there is also another Apple event scheduled for Monday, October 30th. Marques, Andrew, and David talk about what they expect to see before getting into a bunch of Qualcomm chipset news and some right to repair updates. Lastly, we discuss AI features that are coming to RUclips (and Spotify) before wrapping it all up with some trivia. Enjoy!

Just give that man an ankle bracelet
lmao, David is hilarious.
13:25 I'm here so I'm reading this with no context lol
Check 20:33
I didn't see the ankle so I thought you meant at 0:01
just get a damn whoop, the ankle is really unsuitable to properly track stuff, your skin is way thicker around there compared to the wrist
Lol listening to Marques saying with full confidence that GTR is not a track car is so funny 💀
So let’s argue the GTR being a track car…
1. It set a world record at the king of tracks, the Nurburgring.
2. It was R&D tested against a Porsche GT3.
3. The GTR has literal track telemetry inside of it.
A track car is street-illegal, all production GT-R R35 trims aren't. It's in the name: Track, car. Something like the Zonda R qualifies for this.
@@yongling9825 a car doesn't have to be "track only" to be a track car....Nissan has made one LeMans prototype and has other endurance races under its belt. So, yeah some ideas about track cars.
@@yongling9825 umm buddy. Even by that logic, GTR R35 has a track car. “Street illegal” by your standards. Also what is the GTR GT3 championship car? Where are you? The GTR brand came in because the R32, R33, R34 were properly raced. And don’t even start me on Le Mans cars. I mean sad that you don’t even know
@@kvroxx484 The GT-R NISMO GT3 is a racecar, only race teams can buy one.
@@yongling9825 this is by far the stupidest take on "track car" definition LOL
the Hakosuka GT-R was literally a homologation race car, as well as the R-32 GT-R both which dominated in their respected racing series. I would also argue the R-35 GT-R can be considered a race car as it is purpose built for speed and handling around the Nurburgring.
Not to mention a slew of other cars in the 70s and 80s. Imsa spec 240zs the 280zxR had a homologated race wing that was used on the race cars in the 80s.
The GTR most certainly is a track car. Nissan has been involved in motorsports forever. I think Marques needs to do some research into car culture and the history behind these car brands, especially for a person that has an automotive channel…
He needs to stay in his lane and quit thinking that he is a thought leader in anything with electrons just because he reviews a couple of phones and iPads.
@@Sumodeadliftsarefake69he likes tech and cars, and he likes to talk about them. he's never called himself an expert. let him do what he likes and maybe go watch something else if you don't like it.
@@Sumodeadliftsarefake69 he definitely isnt thinking he is a "thought leader" 😭
He gave out a bad take but it's definitely only a take and not imperative.
Nissan never made a good track car? ..”The Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 scored the victory in every Japanese Touring Car Championship race during the 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993 seasons.”
marques calling the GTR not a track car might be the single worst take he has ever had lmao
My face 😶😬 the GTRs through history have been some of the best track cars ever.. don’t trust me, trust the 29 consecutive wins in Japan TC Championship
Yikes! At least he made that mistake here and not on the Auto Focus channel 😬
The takeaway being these guys are not "car people" despite their best intentions
It’s a revealing take and I hope people aren’t watching him as an authoritative source of automotive news and history. He doesn’t deliver useful, in-depth information on performance and driving characteristics like the channels that actually focus on cars. Auto Focus typically covers tech that happens to be in cars far more than it covers the car itself.
Marques is spot on there. The race cars are indeed very good race cars, but the road legal GT-R is a 1.8 ton behemoth whose warranty will be void when you actually use it on track.
Claiming the GTR is not a track car is hilarious. Total ignorance of history, and completely ignoring Nismo
After a 16-year hiatus, the GT-R name was revived in 1989 as the BNR32 ("R32") Skyline GT-R. Group A specification versions of the R32 GT-R were used to win the Japanese Touring Car Championship for four years in a row. The R32 GT-R also had success in the Australian Touring Car Championship, with Jim Richards using it to win the championship in 1991 and Mark Skaife doing the same in 1992, until a regulation change excluded the GT-R in 1993. The technology and performance of the R32 GT-R prompted the Australian motoring publication Wheels to nickname the GT-R "Godzilla" in its July 1989 edition.[1][2] Wheels then carried the name through all the generations of Skyline GT-Rs, most notably the R34 GT-R, which they nicknamed "Godzilla Returns", and described as "The best handling car we have ever driven". In tests conducted by automotive publications, R34 GT-R have covered a quarter of a mile (402 metres) in 12.2 seconds from a standing start time and accelerated from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.4 seconds.
This is the most non car guys talking about cars conversation I have ever heard. It was funny. Just letting you guys know that Nissan has made plenty of track cars going back a very long time. They are going through an identity crisis now, but in the past they made some incredible and revolutionary vehicles that still hold their own. Other than that great show and I love your content.
So many offended car guys in the comments like you lol
@@hankagura5355 its not so much taking offense but correcting his ignorance.
@@hankagura5355I'm not a car guy at all, I just find it annoying
@@gundamlover72 True.
because of EV's these tech guys are now trying to be car guys.
The car portion of the vid was kind of tuff to listen to ngl. Forza and PlayStation 1 ? The GTR not being a track car when it set a Nurburgring record? Nissan not making a track car when the R390 exist ? Nissan competing in the GT3 class ? Nissan making batteries that last in formula E ? Love the content just some very weird takes guys.
It feels like some car brand "fanboyism" showing up. When i heard Nissan doesn't make track cars i knew there is no point in taking that discussion seriously.
I still strongly feel that Car review is not your forte! And you should just leave it like that.
I always skip the car potion, glad I did this time, similar to when Jre talks about music or gaming, I can't bare to hear the overreaching opinion just to keep a convo going 😅😅
@@NICKRICHTEAsame, couldn't care less
Marques saying the GTR is not a track car is maybe the worst car take of all time. It literally set the nurburgring record. Which is generally the measurement of comparison for track cars. So not just a track car, but arguably the best track car. I'm not even sure I can watch autofocus anymore... So bad
I just stalked your subscribed channels and I have to say you have a good taste in channels 😅
Yeah he’s definitely gonna comment about it next week
Stay mad
Marques credibility with car reviews are now questionable... Nissan made track monsters especially with the GTR line of cars. The r32 through r35 were all legendary on the track and absolutely ruining the competition.
It's what happens when you don't have a script to read.
GTR: has track modes, special air in the tires, and GPS that automatically removes the top speed limiter when you pull into a track. 🫡🤌
Marques: the GTR is not a track car.🤷♂️😅😂
All he knows is Tesla so it’s not surprising
I respect Marques opinion on a lot of car stuff and don't just peg him as a "Tesla guy", but this take was way off. It literally set the lap record at the Nurburgring when it was released.
Not to mention having the Nismo version
And the fact that there is a GT3 version in racing series, it was kind of hard hearing that take from him but its not a big deal : P @@westleyvanzant
Yup...horrible take
Nissan have a long, successful history in motorsport and have a lot of knowledge in how to do it. To say they've never made a track car is ignorant at best. Also, please don't take automotive concepts literally. The entire point is to define a future design direction, not literally state what cars are going to look like.
these youtubers are clueless in cars.... it's so cringe to listen
Yes, as soon as he said Nissan never made track cars i paused the podcast and searched for NISMO because for a while i thought i was crazy... oh no, I'm not even that much of a car fan
@@glorious_helpit makes me wonder if they're not clueless about all the other things they say
@@fabricioaf89@glorious_help By far my biggest criticism of the podcast. I know runtime is a concern but ALL 5 of them have the internet at their finger tips and they can't be bothered to ever do a 30 second search to answer basic questions. This isn't the first time they've made statements that were factually incorrect or inaccurate, especially Marques. It's at the point it might push me away from the podcast.
Well, that's an honest mistake, huge part of talking and expressing opinions is being wrong and learning from it. This is not a news podcast, even if it was, it's okay to get something wrong
Marques needs to do a bit more digging into car culture, especially if he's writing for Top Gear Mag. Hearing him talk about the GTR 'not being a track car' and ignoring Nissan's current and past sporting prestige is so cringe.
Marques is NOT wrong The GTR was never considered a “track car” because of the AWD and fancy limited slip differential and the launch function
@@Mr.aAdDieshow does having AWD and a LSD make the GTR not a track car.
F1 cars used to have limited slip differentials lol. The GTR was designed to be used at a track. That's where it's best suited, not as a daily road car.
Also the original r32-34 had the nickname of Godzilla due to how much faster it was on the race track
I was about to comment about this 😂 they are literally legendary track cars... Hence where the nickname Godzilla came from. I'll give him a pass though cause we didn't get the R32, R33, R34 in the US so you have to really be into racing to know about the winning history. That comment definitely made me do a double take though lol
They were basically banned in Australia supercars because they were too good of a track car vs competitors.Especially too good in Long distance races...
Car guys in here are SCREAMING. 😂 Nissan has never made a particularly good track car? You were literally talking about one! The GTR is a racing legend, both in straight lines and around a circuit. nissan may not have the know how to cool an elctric car down properly, but they certainly have the racing heritage needed to make a proper, nimble track car.
Marques is right about the overheating issues with EVs on track, but Nissan buids motor powertrains for their electric Formula E team, and sell that kit to McLarens formula E team too. So they are PERFECTLY well placed to be the ones to build the first great EV track car. If stellantis group and Maserati don't get there first. Or Porsche.
But they seriously need a new design team. And Marketing Team. And …
Porsche would be the only possible contender to beat Nissan to an EV track car.
Stellantis wouldn’t do it.
@@Dk-qf8dd I like the hyper force. It's a long way off design study. Tells us the fans nissan are still thinking about the GTR. It also reminds me a bit of the design they gave the Vision Gran Turismo. AWD torque vectoring would be VERY GTR. In four years maybe there'll be a very exciting R36 announce
@@shadir007 oh Porsche is there too of course ✌️ championship winning FE Powertrain of course, but Porsche seems to up themselves over the concept of synthetic fuels to create a core Porsche EV. It would look bad for their petrol sports cars if they made an electric track car that can go punch for punch with a 911
😊
Calling the GTR not a track car is downright disrespectful. Miles should take the boys for a track day.
13:12 Marques COMPLETELY forgetting Nissan's LMP Cars
I mean you probably want to forget Nissans most recent LMP cars as they were utter failures. I mean even the R390 GT1's best result was a 3rd being mostly beaten by the 911 GT1's of the era. Even then to say Nissan haven't made any track cars is just really something lol.
I don't like jumping on "ehm akshully" bandwagons but I legitimately think this needs to be reiterated as much as possible to get the point across:
From Wikipedia: " Nissan GT-R (Gran Turismo-Racing"
In addition, it holds one of the fastest laps around the Nürburgring.
Saying its not a track car is a really really bad take, which is fine if it wasn't said so confidently by a car reviewer.
I think this is a great opportunity for Marques to take a nismo GTR around a track for a video, and hopefully come away with an experience so thrilling he titles it "I was wrong about the GTR".
It's literally called the GT-R It is a track car, actually takes place in the GTR races in Japan
When Andrew catches everyone in trivia, you're all going to bow to the master.
Ellis and Adam rushing to yell DELOREAN is one of the best moments of WVFRM Podcast :D
i came looking for this comment
I heard Marques say Nissan never made a track car and I was kinda angry, but then he said the GT-R doesn't look good and ... maaan, can't say that with so many guys seeing this podcast😂
1:14:22 - The fact that Ellis actually found a track that has the correct BPM and decided to sync it to his imitation of what music he planned on adding in post is actually incredible.
13:02 Nissan Skyline GT-R 34 be like : Am I a joke to you ?😂
@11:22 was the moment when true love began in the waveform studio. So glad the kids can see this moment in the future.
The mic has a new (Marques) color? They finally made it for you 😂🎉
That new microphone is absolutely banging! Looks super sick.
The ankle bracelet makes a lot of sense. It would work on treadmills, unlike your smartphone and smartwatch/smart-tracker. So I'm all for it as well. But I would like to have connectivity option for training watches.
Nissan did have a track focused GTR called the GTR GT500 for GT series racing.
Loved the AI bonus episode. Suspect I will have to re-listen, but I learnt plenty first time round! Nice job
1:19:57 Post credit Finder icon trivia was so great, my mind was blown about the two faces 🤯
About DALL-E water mark: The visible watermark has been removed but there is a invisible baked meta data that can be used to identify the image as generated even if you edit and crop the original image, also its the same in Bing image generator.
How did none of them immediately refer to that Nissan as the Batmobile?!? That is the most obvious description.
Magic Mouse 3 is gonna come with M3 iMac Pro and include an action button. You heard it here first
Wow that Finder icon trivia, mind blown.
Who knew I would be waiting every Friday for this podcast to come out.
Andrew and his Ember mug! Yeah, man!
I’m loving the fact that RISC has done a 180 and is looking to trounce CISC. If you’re old enough you”ll remember the battles with PowerPC vs Intel
Red interior lights are good for nighttime visibility. One of my favorite car mods.
That Colorway mic looks dope! I love it!
I’m highly intrigued to see the upcoming keynote. Also, people should dress up as Apple Employees who do Keynotes for Halloween haha
strangely, 8pm eastern time means that for most of europe, this is a 1am event 😂🤷♂️ wth.
Nissan doesn't have track cars? Just look at Nissan R88C from 80's and it's successors.
We've been using the x86 architecture since the birth of the PC 40+ years ago, so it'll be interesting to watch the industry continue to move away from it
I love my aura ring! The problem with an ankle bracket is you couldn't easily get heart rate unless it was more up on your leg possibly. But the ring, which works better on your pointer finger anyway, actually does a better job at getting vitals.
Apple is most probably just going to announce immediate availability of Resident Evil Village ... It would fit with the spooky theme AND it's actually something they used to tease the power of the Iphone Pro a few weeks ago.
That Nissan looks like a Rocket League car
Nissan: makes the legendary Skyline GTR (Godzilla) winning the Japanese Touring Car Championship for four years in a row.
MKBHD: "Nissan has never made a track car. I don't consider GTR to be a track car."
L
1:20:25 I had the same reaction to the realisation of that being what the icon was meant to represent lmao
I'm so happy for you guys, Tim Cook just said "Good Evening." LOL
I agree with David, I wish Apple would make like a smaller “Fitbit” band. I don’t want a whole watch- but I want a band that can provide many of the health features, etc
I would love an ankle bracelet too haha. I currently have a Withings hybrid Smart Watch which I really like. It still has some Smart watch features but doesn’t look at all like one and has a wonderful app!
Marques saying Nissan doesn't do track cars is like saying Mercedes doesn't do Grand Touring cars, but if his exposure to performance vehicles is more McLaren than Toyota/Mazda/Honda, I can see why his definition of a "track car" might be off the mark.
There's enough commenters here to drive in the point, but the casual ignorance/dismissal of the legendary Skyline GT-R, current GT-R, the whole Z family ... like cmon.
It's that time again! UK weekend has started! :D
GTR is definitely a track car
Thanks for sharing it. ✌️
Can’t for Marques to address the GTR not being a track car comment next week 👀 14:32
According to the Mac of Theseus if you change every part of it to USB C, is the Mac the same as it was when it was all Lightning?
gosh i love this podcast so much
Good point with the ankle bracelet. For long I’ve been looking for something like an updated version of the Jawbone smart bands with better features to wear on arm or even ankle. Smart features device goes minimalist. Why not?
David's going for the whole...house arrest/probation look with that ankle health monitor 😂
The finder and the event being at night gives me security camera vibes lol imagine an Apple security camera, it has a subscription model which Apple loves now
Morning coffee and Waveform, here we go!
How is ankle bracelet part not an intro clip 😂
Nissan GT-R LM and Nissan R90. Both Le Mans track cars, and that just two legends. I know the Nissan Deltawing is not entirely their product but one of the most famous.. and there are others like the Japan GT series.
The product you’re looking for David is called the BeHeart. It was announced at CES and it’s coming out soon.
YES!!! I definitely want the health benefits of the Apple Watch w/out having to wear one. Just make a smaller, screen less version that I could wear on one wrist while wearing a regular watch on my other wrist.
The only podcast I thoroughly enjoy
Mont Blanc actually made an e-strap in 2015. It was extremely expensive though.
Magic Mouse with Action Button 😂
That ending with Finder face made me "oooooh" at the same time as the boiz! It was so hilarious! 🤣
I can never see Finder face as a 1 face anymore after that fact check...
I ain’t even rlly got into the episode yet
but marques’ new mic colors tho 👌
Everyone with the Red and black mics looks awesome
Ohhhh my fave Friday treat 👏🏻
I applaud the energy that brought automotive into the mix.
I'm 100% on board with a smart ankle bracelet. Where I work, I can't wear watches or rings for safety. I could wear an ankle bracelet though, so I could still track steps and exercise
I have a couple of Mac Studios, but I REALLY miss the iMac Pro!!
I can't believe Marques also had it randomly play jazz for him. Back when I was on Spotify I decided to try it out while on a bike ride and it did a good job playing stuff that I had listened to in the past and stuff like it. Then the next day I hit resume and it was said something along the lines of "this famous musician just passed away, let's pay tribute to their contributions to the world of jazz" then started in with a bunch of jazz, which I've never listened to ever. I just manually selected something else but that was a weird experience and since you can't remove anything from your listen history that will forever be there. I ended up switching to Apple Music for other reasons but their Stations feature hits for me 99% of the time compared to Spotify which even outside of the AI DJ would throw in some real weird recommendations.
34:20 introducing tb 5 or some semi proprietary connection speed that is high bandwidth and _fast_ to allow the pro display xdr to do 6k at 120 fps or 8k 60. Wild card guess
Tim Cook comes on Screen as his Vision Pro avatar with a vampire cape on.
That Nissan take Was ridiculous bad 😂
I'm interested in the live views and likes of the new youtube update. that's awesome
Glad to see the resounding agreement on Marques having a bad take on the GTR all around. Its a beautiful track car.
After seeing the way Randy Pobst can take multiple iterations of the GTR around Willow Springs... yeah I'm calling it a track car
I'm not disagreeing with you here, but let's be honest, Randy Pobst could make a little tikes cosy coupe seem like a track car, he's that good and has that good of a personality 😂
@@AJRobinsonyeah, that's definitely a valid point 😂😂
The Studio Display was so close to being a full-fledged iMac internally (with an A series processor, etc.) that there's a part of me that thinks they could do a "Pro-ish" 27-inch iMac inside that display without it triggering a bunch of rumors ahead of time. Which would be cool, because I want one.
I'm definitely thinking iMac Pro or M2 Ultra MacBook Pros announced on Monday 🤔
Nissan have had great success on track in Australia where they participate in the V8 super cars series!
1:16:48 As someone who wasted a lot of time on AI arts, this one immediately raised the alarm for me. You can easily tell from the messed up ceiling that it is AI generated.
You guys are coping hard, the Nissan Hyper Force looks fantastic.
Boxy/retro-futuristic is making a comeback. Same style as the Cypertruck, sure, but definitely more refined.
I wonder what you do consider a great futuristic look. Lucid? Conservative/art-deco stuff?
I love the magic muse... other than the plug location...
37:11 Got the Airpods Pro 2 USB-C, and absolutely love them. Enough that I'm considering switching to Mac. (Some other reasons too, of course)
If they were to announce USB-C accessories, that'll get me even more interested.
This podcast really seems to have found its legs eh last few months. Love the pod keep up the great work.
I would give anything for a see through computer once again.
First of all that mic looks SICK
The trivia is getting wilder
MKBHD that microphone
Is dope.
I just finished the podcast and I am really sad that it ended..
It’s 1am on Halloween for Germany so actually spooky time for this event here
It's so cool that Apple finally corrected the huge issue of MacBook Pros receiving warmed over parts 6 months late. I hope they maintain the change.
