From the mouth of nba players. For any era before curry. Shooting a 3 frpm a dribble is considered the worse shot in nba history but now its the greatest weapon.
Look back for past 13 years. Teams that won championship has been very capable 3pt shooting teams. Whereas teams that cant shoot 3s are tanking or choking in playoffs ahem.. zbo gasol memphis and butler bulls.
Nba shortening the 3pt line does change your narratives and claims.
When nba first shorten the 3pt line, yhe entire league 3s attempts and made spike up tremedously.
League record for 3s are being broken and most nba players set their record and league rrcord for 3s and %
Corner 3s are so happening and vital to team success.
Mj is shooting lights out from 3s during this time over 40%.
Mj career average 33% for 3s. You take away those season that nba shorten the line and sum up the rest. Mj only shot 28.8% for 3s. Thats like 5% drop.
When nba move the line back to its original distance, the entire league 3s attempt, made and also % plummet overnight.
In lay man term, shooting 3s was a lethal weapon and people are happy to take it.
Problem is that older generation lacked the ability to make them.
Which explains why when the line moved back and suddenly they couldn sustain it
Watching back 80s and 90s. Most players including bird and mj had 2 arm spacing to take a 3. But they dont do it.

@@taroman7100 I know some people don't play basketball or study shooting techniques. When you release the ball at the apex of your jump or in other words you jump as high as you can then release that's the "two motion" technique examples are Ray Allen & Kobe Bryant. The "one motion" technique where you release as you're going up, using you entire body instead of just your arms. Women shot with this technique because they could generate more strength. Men historically were taught the two motion but now many use the one motion because for one it increases your range. And it's a better way to shoot.

yeah, ionescu is 5'11 so there have been MANY male players smaller than her with smaller hands as well that had to use an NBA ball. Shooting is about technique (which Ionescu has great technique) than about strength. I have seen children make NBA 3 pointers consistently showing the average adult will have enough strength.

I'd guess that smaller ball has some accuracy advantage coming purely from ball/rim dimensions. Shorter distance as well has some advantage both on accuracy and time/physical effort. If Sabrina shoots by WNBA regulation and Stephen by NBA, I would bet for Sabrina. If either of them have to readjust (as Sabrina mentioned that she would shoot from NBA line), then my bet goes to whoever stays in their natural regulation.

I know the wnba 3 point line is closer than the mens’ but is their ball also smaller? Im just wondering if that would play a huge role. The distance won’t be as big a factor because she has RANGE. Sure maybe she won’t beat Curry but she’s elite. But the ball being bigger would def throw off her shot.

Women’s basketballs are smaller than men’s which means there’s more clearance for the ball to go through the hoop. Maybe women’s hoops should be smaller as well?
Only a 1 inch difference in circumference… the difference is ever so slightly. Most people wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference in picking up a size 6 basketball compared to a size 7.
