I have Orange amps in my studio, just a great sound with a punch. I would not have anything else. Here's to you Cliff and the team, you don't have to invent anything else. The quality and sound of Orange will carry on in your products.
Just another reason to love Orange amps! Its nice to see a founder of a major company so chill and down to earth. I knew there was a reason I liked Orange so much, other than the unmistakable tone :)
I’ve always thought of Marshall amps as the best. That was until I plugged into an Orange amp for the first time. I fell in love immediately. Even the amps made in China sound amazing. My next amp will be an Orange made in U.K. proper half stack. I still like Marshall as my #2 amp but Orange is #1 from now on. Best sounding amps in the world!
Cliff and Orange in general are such.... unique things. Usually the big boy amp people don't really care for the more..... "unsavory" bands that play their stuff. Like, I don't think Marshall has ever acknowledged the fact that Death and Black metal bands played a lot of Marshall amps back in the day, for example. But Orange and Cliff absolutely love all the stoners and doomers who play the amps. It's great, really!
I remember the recording studio in Compton Street. In the basement of the shop. I recorded a demo there many years ago for John Miles of one of his songs called Happy Little boy. My Choir Master worked for Decca at the time which is how I got to do it.
I assumed they sold out to Gibson or Fender or something since I started seeing them at Guitar Center. It's good to see a "small" company surviving and thriving in the all too greedy music business.
@@fargonianproductions2767 That's not quite technically true either. Cliff licensed the Orange name to Gibson from about '93 to about '97. OMEC (Orange Music Electronic Company) and it's associated label, booking agency, artist management, etc. was still owned and run by Cliff. 7:23 - He just 'rented' the amp name to Gibson.
I loved that sound from that Led Zeppelin concert from a few years ago so I bought one of those micro terrors to play some guitar but mostly bass and loved that tiny thing, it could take a beating. Now I have an OBC 410 and it sounds amazing.
I too am impressed with Orange solid state cr120 as well as the 3 watt mini amp that has the speaker out for a large cabinet sound as those are the only two Orange amps the I currently own.
My First impression w/ ORANGE was seeing "Sabbath doing Paranoid.Seeing Geezer & Tony alone made them cool.I love the signature Fuzzy Grain of the Distortion-Love to explore some of the down tuning Stoner vibe w/ mine...
Love my Orange CR60! Great piece of gear. Definitely makes me lose track of time while playing it, and keeps me coming back for more! One day I’d like to get an Orange tube amp, but I’m still more than happy with the CR60.
I LOVE my Orange 2×12 twin! Yeah its also my favorite color, I'm 50, and the color Orange will always remind me of 1970s childhood. But regardless, they rock. Thank You Sir!
What a gentleman. Makes me want to go out and buy a bunch of Orange gear to help support this good company. (Actually, probably will buy an amp and cab soon. Really digging that Orange tone lately.)
if my mesa boogie ever gets beyond fixing or I need more wattage then I will buy an orange.i think they sound the best.i have seen many reviews and shootouts comparing to other amps, and heard them played live by eagles of death metal.I have only played through one of their transistor amps but I was super impressed at how great it sounded
The Orange clean sound is very full and warm. Every amp has a slightly different overdrive sound however. I’ve heard the Rockerverb called a British Mesa Boogie on the dirty channel. Idk about that. I had a TH30 and OR50. TH30 had a huge clean sound that went into a singing sustain sound very easily and the OD was too tight for my tastes. I replaced the V1 for a 5751 tube and it smoothed the lead tone. I wanted a single channel and got the OR50. That amp was a monster. Had huge warm cleans to classic rock to fuzzed out lead.
Haha, i love playin BeeGees AND Fleetwood Mac on my Fender Stratocaster through my Oramge Amp. Mustve been a glorious time for them as well in the 70s! The Brothers Gibb were geniuses, and I was a Metalhead!
I have 2 OR 15s and a Rockerverb 50 as well as 3 PC 112s and 1 PC 212. By far the best amps made: simple signal path gives you the best tone; with all tube amps. Not a fan o Crush just because I’m older and can afford the better sounding tube amps. Used to have a Dark terror and I lived that amp too. I still need a 100 watt Rockerverb and a 4 x 12. Donations are kindly accepted here at Eric’s private Orange shop. Ha! Great video lads; Cheers from the USA. I used to play Mesa and Marshall’s gave all those up for my Oranges.
JackstandJohnny * They made microphones too !? I just seen a video from 1972 of chuck Berry using an old but new then orange half stack and he was using the Orange microphones too.
This interview is gold why does it have eight k views?? Hey trey i have a sick modern tone dialed in with my micro terror and I was wondering if you thought purchasing the Jim root orange would be worth the money for a modern tone keeping in mind that my tone is already sick with the micro. I see some cheap used ones on reverb for about four hundred which to me is insane for a tube amp.
I am not a real customer for reference purposes but I will be purchasing some more Orange bits for my rig. If they offered a different line of massive headroom, cleaner-sounding amplifiers, perhaps in green tolex to avoid any confusion, then they could make a spot much higher on my list. just a thought... 🤔
From the States here just done watching racist acts against Black people, you know, the news... I needed this, music, no matter how dark and evil, is happiness!
I notice a lot of guitar plays intentionally making their amps/cabs indistinguishable so people don't know what they are using. Can't hide it on on orange, but then why would you want to?
Wow, no mention of the real origin of the amps and Mat Mathias and Matamp who made all those early Oranges (like Jimmy Page’s old Orange which says Matamp on it). Cliff Cooper just changed the tolex color and logo and didn’t even bother to change the unique Matamp layout and style. Seems like a nice enough guy but the real credit for all of the sonic qualities of the classic models needs to go to Mat Mathias.
@@aitkenaudio9669 Neither matamps or the slight changes orange did to them made them anything like a marshall, I dont think that was their aim, and if it was they had no clue. I have had many 70s oranges and matamps and know the circuits well (as well as many 70s marshalls, etc) but yeah mat was the main originator tho they were basically hifi pa type amps to start, not guitar amps. Like all the classic amp designs of the 60s, none of the companies made them with distortion in mind at all, that was only an afterthought once people started using them that way they were all made for clean to start, even 60s marshalls
The tolex is a little fragile in comparison to the British heard so just be warned. I had one and loved it but got an OR50 and noticed the slight aesthetic difference.
Transistor Amps suck, thank goodness brands like Orange kept going. I am astonished that they didn’t have better financial backers in the 70s and 80s. Orange was a diamond, how they missed that I’ll never know.
I'm a tube and player, I've had an orange amp as my main for a decade, but transistor amps are good too, not if you want them to sound like tubes though. They have a place.
My experience of them has been that they’re brittle and harsh sounding. Maybe the ones I’ve tried were just awful. I remember when people were raving about the Gallien Kreuger 250ML. Didn’t understand the enthusiasm at the time and still don’t.
Cliff Cooper is an absolute legend.
what a freakin chill guy. soft spoken, polite, & can carry a great conversation. That alone, should deserve him an award.

Love orange 🍊 no ego just talk quietly and power a gnarly amp .
Orange amps are so inspiring, my favorite designs

Really like Orange amps they seem more present and direct. I think the fact they make their own speakers gives them an edge.

He’s so soft spoken for a man that designed such a mean sounding amp!

Professor Jeff Galey, ( The Jeff GALEY Channel )
absolutely crazy to not mention matamp also he was just a salesman who'd probably never touched a soldering iron in his life!
They should make GUITARS, he knows the guys to hire!
I just wish orange would use 12" speakers in their affordable tube combos. A 10" doesn't cut it.
Just did a speaker swap in one of thoses 10” combos and it makes a huge difference.
David Talbott * Did you swap in @ 12 inch speaker for the 10 ? Or did you use a 10 inch speaker ?
I think Cliff is a Amateur Radio Operator in Great Briton cannot recall his Call Sign, though

Check out Paulo Schroeber - Condor FC-7 Demonstration using ORANGE AMP.... The most awesome guitar shredding on the web in this video!!!!...
Metal Head 420 indeed the most awesome player, what a very sad loss.
