  • Fresh back from vacation and my visit to Outdoors In The 608. Back to splitting with the 28 PRO after just running Jeremiah’s 22 RS! I talk about some differences likes and dislikes. For info on Wolfe Ridge splitters in the St. Louis area check out the link to Widman Cycles below. Also check out Wolfe Ridges website for all models and to compare specs!

    Hi Todd who would have thought picking out a log splitter would be so hard. You made a lot of great points. I would love to upgrade my box store splitter. And watching your videos is making me want it more. 👍🏻🇺🇸🍻

    Don't feel bad Todd we all go through exactly what your talking about. It doesn't matter what manufacturer you go with they all make great splitters. Trying to find the right one for your situation is one of the hardest things you'll go through in the firewood business.

    That 28 with the 4 way is a nice unit.. You have a real nice set up. Probably the neatest woodyard I have seen. Everything in its place. If you keep doing wood, you will need the log lift eventually. I am 72 and not getting a log lift is one of my biggest regrets. You never think you will need it until you do.

I’m not against EM Andrew makes some awesome machines. WR is just here in the Midwest and the convenience factor is there. Check with Wolfridge, they made a plate to reduce the travel of ram from 24” to 18”. No tools needed, 2 plates of steel installed on the frame where ram travels. 6” up & 6” back every split is 12” less travel time hence making the cycle time much shorter. Looks like a nice addition. Dave D from Maine.

    • @toddsoutsideagain
      @toddsoutsideagain  Месяц назад +2

      Yeah, I am aware of those stroke limiter plates. They do not work on the splitters with the smaller ram and smaller push plate. It has to be on the magnum package splitters. Norm actually sent me home with a set but they will not work on the 28 Pro. I appreciate you watching and commenting.👊🏻

      @@toddsoutsideagain ok, I didn’t know about the splitter size. I would think you could bolt some kind of bump stop on splitter to kick off auto return. Great videos, keep them coming. A guy I met in Auburn Me. just bought a hopper to hold rounds for his vertical splitter from an outfit in NY. Awesome piece of equipment. Load it up with tractor & bring rounds to you, no bending & no lifting. Holds a whole cord of rounds. Have a great day & keep sharing your videos.

    back 40 firewood showed how to install a stroke length limiter for his 28 pro last week. It is also available as an option from Wolferidge and can seriously reduce your circle time if you run 16" or shorter firewood.
    In all, I suspect that for your application a vertical splitter would have many advantages, including a lot of control over the size and quality of your firewood sticks. Especially the modern ones are so fast they have very few disadvantages, other than the price, compared to the 28 pro and others.

    • @toddsoutsideagain
      @toddsoutsideagain  Месяц назад

      Yeah I’m aware of the stroke limiters. Dan has a 28c so the plates will work. The 28 Pro I have they will not. In order to use the plates I believe you got to have the big bore package. I really enjoyed the 17VSC I ran before this one for a lot of reasons you stated. The advantages did outweigh the few disadvantages. I appreciate the info. Thanks for watching and commenting 👊🏻

      Well that would be a hard question for me to answer. Especially with never running a county line like yours. They claim our box store splitters are badged higher than what the tonnage actually is🤷‍♂️ With that all I can say is I have ran a 22rs numerous times and have never had an issue with power. In my previous video we ran some very hard ash thru it and that’s with a 4way wedge. I will say I don’t think you would be dissatisfied with the 22rs. Not an expert just my opinion.
