I agree with Jim Carey Chris Rock should have SUED Will Smith for 100 million dollars for ASSAULTING him. Will got off too easily he wasn't even escorted out of the OSCARS. His Oscars could have been mailed to him. The Police don't ask the victim on the streets if they want to press charges after being assaulted they just arrest the person that assaulted the person. So why didn't they just arrest Will Smith and charge him with assault. Chris Rock it is not too late to press charges against Will Smith. Jada is proud of Will Smith for ASSAULTING you. 1) Can't sue the Academy for something it didn't do, esp. when they went to Chris Rock and he didn't want to press charges or have Smith removed. If the argument is that the academy should have had better security, that argument won't work since no one could have forseen Will Smith raising from his seat to assault someone one stage. No judge or jury would buy that. Rock would have to prove negligence which would be extremely difficult given the unforeseen nature of what occurred.
2) Chris Rock was doing what he was supposed to do. Comedians at the Oscars roast the actors and actresses. It's a part of the culture at the Oscar's and is expected that jokes will be made at the actors expense. No one has ever reacted like Will Smith. Jada is an actress and a part of the academy; she's fair game for jokes. She also was very open abut her alopecia previously. The joke wasn't even that bad. If anything, it was kind of weak. If you don't want to possibly hear jokes about yourself, do everyone a favor and stay at home. Unless someone is putting their hands on you, you have no right to assault someone... esp. on national TV and in front of the world.
There are probably many of us women who don't support what Jada has done. However, we don't have a platform like yours, SAS. The proof, in part, is in her failing book sales. You don't see us running out here and buying her book, do you? We don't support what she's done to Will. Afterall, we're Will fans too; in spite of what he did at the Oscar's. As a Black woman, I agree with many of your comments about the Jada/Will Smith calamity. Problems included: 1) oversharing with the public about their private lives and personal business; and, 2) recent PR blitz and comments to clean up the messes which lack credibility. But the biggest take away for me with the Jada/Will saga is the affirmation of the assessment I made at the time of the infamous "slap." If behaving badly--causing bodily harm and professional damage to Chris Rock and other Blacks in the industry--is what it takes to make Jada feel like a wife and Will to get his wife's approval--there is truly something wrong with them and their marriage. Let's hope they refrain from inflecting their pain and dysfunction on the rest of us in the future.
