Can I Beat Resident Evil 1 Without the Item Box?

- Hello friends, today I finally tried Resident Evil 1 for the first time and it was so much fun and an incredibly good PS4 game! Now all I need to complete the story is Resident Evil 3, which is coming out in April. Follow me on Twitter @danteravioli and instagram @danteravioliyt for new updates and fun pictures of me and other cool things. So, can I beat Resident Evil 1 without my trusty friend the item box? Or will my inventory be so limited that I end up failing? Only time will tell. I'll explain some of the rules behind this challenge below and why it's so difficult. Also, I played on normal difficulty (which is the most difficult difficulty right out of the box).

Here's how this Resident Evil challenge works: you start off with 8 inventory slots as Jill Valentine, and 6 inventory slots as Chris Redfield. Throughout the game, you pick up many items to use in puzzles and surprisingly, you can't discard or drop items. If you pick something up, you're stuck with it until you either use it in a puzzle or use it yourself (like a healing item or bullets).
So I have to be extremely careful not to totally use up Jill's 8 inventory slots because if they're full and I need to pick up a key item, the challenge is failed. And I can't put useless items away either. If I use the lighter for a puzzle and I'm done using it for the rest of the game, I can't just throw it in the item box for extra inventory space. It's got to stay with me the whole time! Is this challenge even possible? Find out by watching the whole video.
I think we can all agree that the original Resident Evil is a masterpiece. Sure, the voice acting is a little bad and the camera angles can get incredibly annoying and frustrating, but opening 800 doors throughout the playthrough makes it all worth it. That was sarcasm. I hate doors after this gameplay.
I actually only played the original RE for the first time just last week. I played RE4 a lot when I was younger but never really got into the older games. I either thought they were too difficult with the constant changing camera angles or I was too scared to play them. But not now boys, now I make fun of the enemies! They're easy dude.
How do I feel about Barry and his "problems"? Will Wesker turn into my best friend by the end? Did Mr. Osbourne help me like I needed him to? And do I ever save Lenny? Actually scratch that, I'm pretty sure he got the idea after running away from a boulder in the first game. Revenge is best served cold after all...even if you're in a volcano
Steroids. It says sometime between RE1 and RE5 he went hardcore and took steroids to be stronger that way if he came across Wesker again he could take him down for being a traitor.
I'd assume during Re4 he underwent BSAA training and (even if Steroids were used) he went hard at training to beat Wesker
Chris Roidfield wanted revenge for being chased by the boulder, obviously. He wasn't trying to save Sheva or kill Wesker in RE5, we was actually using them both to get to the boulder.

in the hard mode the inventory boxes are not connected between them, and its very annoying going back for something
RE2 Remake and RE7 did something like this. You get an achievement in RE7 if you don't use the item box more than 3 times, and for RE2 remake if you don't use the item box at all.

@@UndertaleFan-cx2mc the only reason re7 had it 3 times was because there were 3 times you had to use the item box (once before Lucas's test, once afterwards, and once after Mia's section if I'm not mistaken)

In some ways Chris' run wouldn't be any different because he doesn't have to pick up the handgun. And he has the lighter permanently. Which would put him pretty on par really. Jill needs to carry the lighter and handgun and knife at all times. Whereas Chris only needs the knife from that list. Meaning he has effectively the same amount of slots if you skip the handgun. Sorry for the repeats. It's 4am here xD. Also no acid rounds from Barry.

I second that, Carci is the reference to RE runs and challenges.
Its almost the same since you can skip hg and already have a lighter that doesnt take up a slot.
@@smegspreader yeah, jill has two slots, yet these are filled after picking up the knife and the lighter, which are required in her campaign. However, because the knife is way lster in the game, she does have a major advantage for majority of the game
I haven't finished the video yet so I don't know if it ends up breaking the run, but you can actually avoid getting the Acid Rounds from Barry near the beginning.
If your inventory is full when you get to that cutscene, he doesn't give it to you. Apparently high level speedruns use this trick. So you might be able to fill your inventory with uncombined herbs or ink ribbons from the east and west hallways, get to that cutscene, and then just waste them.

I love the new cannon discovered in this playthrough Dante. Shrek was behind poor Barry's dark turn and big smoke was hiding out in the Spencer mansion after being beaten by CJ. It's all so clear when you really pay attention.

As a child I beat kh1 only using melee attacks. I was too young to understand the magic weaknesses and shit so I thought it was always weaker than melee.
This game is so perfect. Haven’t been the biggest fan of 4. Although it’s how you set this up, you’re a trooper for killing Crimson Heads with a knife.

I'm considering trying this challenge myself. The Acid Rounds are a great warning -- I think if you fill up your inventory with herbs before that moment (and there's a bunch of them on the patio on the way), then you won't be forced to take the rounds.
