Hi Diane- I can see you did this a year ago but I’m just now watching this on Jan 16, 2023 at 9:30 pm Northern California time😊 This is the first time I have seen that I can see the transcript in written form- this is fantastic. NOW the colors and mixing of colors will be so much easier. You have added s tremendous amount of info to your videos- I’m really happy to see that and to know that being a patreon member really helps you to become a really great channel and I’m glad I’m part of it! You are VERY talented- GIFTED- I think and we are lucky you share your art and knowledge with us. I still haven’t done Facebook but who knows … it could happen! Thank you! You probably won’t see this since it’s a year later but I feel better having written you the note!😊Thank you again!
Hi Karen, so wonderful to see your message! We were just thinking about you the other day, and wondering how are you were! So glad that you are enjoying the videos and that you have found the transcripts. It’s a very big advantage I think and RUclips have done a good job there. Thank you so much for your kind words I really appreciate it. I’m just happy that I can bring art to people now through this wonderful medium. I hope that you are keeping well and your family also. We might be halfway through January but I’d like to wish you a happy and healthy and peaceful New Year and I know the weather in California has been very severe this winter so hopefully soon it will improve. Looking forward to hearing from you again! Love and best wishes, Diane.
I admire your authenticity and fierceness. A working farm with honeybees, lavender, and the tender Jacob lamb within earshot of military activity -I can’t imagine what living in that kind of contrast is like - and the art you produce is loaded with sweetness, simplicity (not easy to achieve!), and skill. I am applying what I learn from you to my 2023,Garden journal. We have similar flora and fauna species here. Lavender and bees will be my Valentine card this year now!
Hi Susan, thanks so much for your comments! Yes, our location is lovely in many ways. There is a small airbase at Brest on the far western coast, about 2 hours by car from us, and once a week they have a practice run of a couple of jets over Brittany, which is what I think you heard in the video. I was just joking about the warlike aspect! We really don’t ever even see a gendarme let alone a soldier here, and I would not like it if we did! We have no crime, no violence, no industry, no noise, no traffic, no loud music, no light pollution, no air pollution to speak of, and the population density is very low. Glad you are following some of my videos. You’ve reminded me we need to think about trimming the lavender if it is going to flower this year! Have fun xxx
cottagecore sounds a lot like the 60's idea of 'going back to the country'.....city kids moving out to the land, growing organic gardens, canning and cherishing the old ways. It can't be a bad thing to slow down, get outside and in touch with nature. I love your small studies of flowers and insects. Thank you.
That’s exactly what it sounds like! Nothing new under the sun, eh? Funny thing is, we live exactly like a combination of cottage core and grandma core! You should look that one up! Has a lot to do with soft furnishings and making jam apparently!
Loved the way you little bees come to life….soo want to master your technique…..love your relaxed approach…..I need to relax my technique and let it flow more….love your style Diane.❤️
I really enjoyed painting this. I never thought of splattering before you start the painting - what a great technique especially for those of us who want to paint looser. I often ruin things when I fiddle too much at the end.
This is really beautiful and quite unique. I loved watching it come together. The lavender seems to be flowing in a breeze and those honey bees appear as happy as can be. Thank you Diane and Tamsin for another wonderful video. Thanks to you, my home is filling up with some lovely artwork.
@@DianeAntoneStudio Haha...you are so good at replying to your fans! I know you're busy, so I don't ever expect a reply, but it's so nice to see your replies to your followers. Since I am late to the game in following your channel, I've been binge watching on mornings that allow. As I mentioned before, watching your videos is so relaxing, as well as educational. I love your style! Thank you!
Oh yes, the teens are all about cottage core! Ugh! But Thank you! And welcome to the Channel Membership! Don't forget to check out the Community Tab and the private facebook group for messages for members only!
I am loving your tips on the structure of plants. I pruned my beautiful hydrangea at the wrong time of year so it'll have no flowers. I'm sad about that but now maybe I can try to paint my other little potted flowers😊
Oh dear! We did the same thing to one of our Ceanothuses I think. We have two, and one is covered in blue flowers but the other one usually is and this year it isn’t. A bit of a mystery! Thanks for watching the video and enjoying it, and happy painting!
At the beginning I thought, this is so different from yesterday. Then it hit me. If I can do the slightly more detailed heads in sketch book, I’d find it easier to do the looser version here. I certainly hope that’s the theory 🙂
Yes!!!! As I was doing the second painting, I was constantly referring back to the first sketches to make sure I was on track. You absolutely can do a much better job having done the more accurate sketch first. So glad you spotted that! And I hope it worked for you!
Thank you! Yes, it was a relaxing painting, no stress! And the only parts of the pencil that can be erased are those which were left outside of the painted part, so I rubbed those out to clean it up a bit. If I was being very hyper careful about pencil lines not showing, I would use a very fine pencil that only I could see, and that of course wouldn't show up well on the video. Another method is to simply use a water soluble pencil - a light coloured one not soluble graphite - which will dissolve into the painting. However, that might change the colour of the painting. So it has to be some sort of compromise. Personally I like to see the pencil lines on a painting anyway, within reason, so I'm not bothered about getting rid of them all, but if I were painting for someone else or advising someone who didn't like the pencil lines that's what I would do. Hope this helps!

You are so knowledgeable and I learn so much from each You Tube video. Thank you for sharing your gift with us ❤ !
Thanks. I appreciated the heads up about your "from the garden" videos as well as the lavender painting.
Lovely. Happy to learn about the honey bee! Thank you!❤️
Glad you enjoyed it!

Thank you for this wonderful tutorial.
You are so welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
I didn’t realize you had Ceanothus. We have it here on central coast of California. It is so gorgeous. Thanks for fun tutorial.
My 225th. Even this warming video couldn't even lift King Frost (-8) from his saddle. Brrrr. Nice technique again.😊wim
MINUS 8?? We had those temps last year but this year is less vicious. Fingers crossed for an early spring.
Beautiful ❤
Beautiful xx
I’m glad you also have a white paper syndrome. 🌸

Thanks so much 😊 Sometimes turning things back to front helps, so start at the end!
Wonderful…..take care
Thank you! You too!

@@DianeAntoneStudio I just did ..after I watched the video!!
Thank you!!!
This is lovely. Thank you. I’ll try this later today. I gave the colored "splotches " flowers in a vase, and I was pleasantly surprised by the result!
So glad! Have fun!
I haven’t heard of cottagecore, but farmhouse and farmhouse chic sound similar and is very popular in the U.S.

Diane, please do talk about the purpose of a sketchbook! And if you can elaborate how to make one! Thanks MayaWS
Thanks for the suggestion Maya, and I will be talking about sketchbooks soon and how to make one x

It looks like it would be very freeing to start a painting with splatter! No way to go wrong, right?
Absolutely! I really felt inhibited by the paper that morning, and thought heck, I'll just splatter it and see what happens!!!!
I can almost hear those bees
Yes! They are so loud!
Beautiful and looked so enjoyable to paint! Curious what pencil you can erase after watercolor goes over it?
