Did my SERE training in spring of 1982, Warner Springs, CA. Thirty seven years later I can still remember every day of it like it was yesterday. I was the only student out of about 30 to make it to Freedom Village. My reward? A Twinky and a necklace with a washer on it to signify that I had made it to FV. The instructors commended me on my evasion skills,. They said it was like I had been practicing for it. I told them that before I had joined the Navy I had gone through Army Basic at Fort Bliss, TX and the skill sets I learned there came in handy at survival and evasion. They certainly agreed. The course was so realistic that I really thought I was a POW. The small cement cell, the waterboarding, the getting the hell beat out of me, the gun to my head, the sleep deprivation. Yea. It was pretty realistic. It was the best course in survival. Thank you SERE Group.
My dad was a sere instructor in Warner springs in the early 70's I use to ride my mini bike all over the base I use to collect the weapons the guts would make in the cages out in the field not many people made it to freedom village how was the peanut butter and jelly sandwich ?

I'd go again if I could, I went when I was just turning 20, and I could have gotten a bit more out of it when I was a bit older I think.
The fact that I’m claustrophobic is really a big draw back
