New to the game, and the BDO's repuutation is 100% what kept me away for years. From what i've heard from players I think the majority of outsiders are unaware of all of the good changes made the past few years. It's reputatiion is based largely on how it used to be i think

as a game dev, i'd like to say that there is no such thing as free to play MMORPG, we also have family to feed.

As a new BDO player. (I've been playing for about 50 hours.) I never heard anything bad necessarily about BDO. I heard about pay to win, but I have been told that it has gotten less so now. That is why I gave it a shot and I'm happy I did.
easy answer. somehow to this day, its the only action combat mmo to actually take off. we need more mmos where combat isnt pressing 1 then 2 then… believe it or not… 4!

Because this is one of the best MMORPG out there in almost every aspects.
The P2W aspects, while there, are way overblown by people who don't actually even try to play the game (Like Asmongold) and their stubborned denialism won't change that actual players enjoy the game despite all the disinformation spread around, because the people who actually play the game knows that it's disinformation. The disinfo won't pull actual players away and new players who actually give a shit for an honest and critical play of the game will stay, learning that most criticism are plain lies.
Yes, you can spend thousands on outfits for crons to try to upgrade your gear. But since you're not even guaranteed to get anything even by spending thousands, only the whales and unwise addicted gamblers spend on such gambling while most players buy their stuff in the marketplace for silvers and make wise permanent purchases in the pearl shop, enjoying the game for what it is.
Pearl Abyss are doing weekly updates, taking care of the game, making it better continuously while others are staying in their echo chamber of lies, misinformation and disinformation.
As simple as that.
Regarding P2W accussations just ask them: What can you buy that can actively fuck another player's experience? 2b is about 40 USD, a single PEN Black Star is in the 120 billions and you are capped on the amount of costumes you can sell on the market so even then it will take you months and thousands of USD to get just one weapon being P2W.

Worst reputation, man he must be sniffing some type of Kool Aid. BDO is a game that is miles wide and extremely deep, so you can get lost in the world. Plus it looks damn beautiful while getting lost. I remember passing a stream one day, and on that stream were some water spiders, and a few animals were walking around in the nearby bushes. So i stopped and just started fishing, and I stayed there for a long time, and then sold that fish and banked the dollars. Not many games you can even think about just stopping anywhere you are and just do something else.

If you would listened to what he said more than 3sec before pausing and barking in-between, you would've actually noticed that he was saying how unique and incredible the game is.
i think bdo is better than any other game right now. i gave up before, because i cant chase any other player, and my pc blew up, need 1 or 2 month to get through the warranty system, and at that point im already doing another activity.. i wait for project bbq, but it blew up too. wow, elden ring, new world, i dont have any reason to play that game, the graphic and gameplay mechanic is inferior before bdo. and then the horse event get me back into the game, sawy it on asmon channel, sad that bdo is to overwhelming for him, i can say the same with wow. i really want that dine horse at 2018, jan 2019 pc blew up. really hate the pk system, and my gear always failed. now when i get in to take my horse, i just thinking why should i wait any other game..? bdo is better at everything. still hate the pk system. but i can just enjoy the game, buying naphart camp, trying to have pen gear, bought the season pass, and now im back. i hope i can handle the pk system. glad to be back.

As a console player, general consensus is we love to hate on it but theres nothing better than bdo for console
ESO has been crushing BDO on console for as long as they have both been around. Graphics alone have never been enough(and quite frankly it's one of the least important things for a MMO). Player retention is also insanely high on console ESO. So I'll give you part of that, BDO players do think there is nothing better out there but the majority of console mmo players do not even think about this game. It's sad because BDO could definitely give real competition. Seems like they are getting closer and closer to that reality, which is awesome.

I only agree with this guy in one thing, yeah Raid in bdo would be awesome. But I love bdo even without it.

My ship has been attacked at least three times in the last three weeks. There is no benefit to doing it, so it is just griefers. But it definitely happens.
Ah of course the one who is bitching about BDO is the one who over glorifies tab target combat and WoW. Even Asmongold claimed something similar, that he does not prefer the play style but he did try! I only ever see these comments from WoW players. WIth this i do not mean to diminish WoWs success, it is there for a reason, but he is comparing apples to pears here. And do not be mistaken i played my share of tab target combat like SWtOR and KotOR.

Sounds to me like the guy had a bad enhancing experience, blew up his gear out of frustration and now holds a grudge against the game no matter what. Cheer up, buddy. It's just a skill issue.
as these videos hit my feed - People will always make excuses that enable them to keep grinding WoW and FFXIV. I legitimately feel BDO is the only sane MMO community. I often say my worst day in BDO is still better than my best day in WoW.
That said a lot of the big content creators are super negative about NW/PvP but anti-PvP stuff should appeal to people who hated the idea of BDO originally

I think, what he ment to say is: BDO isnt an attempt at a wow clone and that alone makes it "different" in comparison to the rest. The added content might not be entirely new, but as its implemented into the world and combat, habor a unique twist, that you cant find in other mmos.
Thruth be told: most of his statements where too general to be considered true. which might not even be an issue, if someone who never played bdo watches it as an intoduction to the current "hype". but his research is by no means deep enough to really get the point. BDO might just be different enough, that you can overlook the bad to experience the good. And you cant find another game that does it right enough in the same direction, to justify a switch. The combat system, graphics and sand box open world just give it that "itch" you cant scratch in any other game, and that lets you return again and again.
But BDO didnt "get good" over night or by the devs dragging their feet in the sand. Quite the opposite: It was the community, and the western in particular, who pushed again and again for those improvents. It took years until we got from whatever was the later 2010s to seasons, jetina and all the QOL. Fortunatly they actually got the message now (i think) and run with it (or what the festa a fuke? pls dont let it be a one off), instead of holding on to every last crap decision. I mean whoever thought not adding the infinite potions to the family system...
And lastly: competition is good! If you think the devs of other games haven noticed... maybe they will improve too. which gives PA a reason to continue and makes our game better. You dont need to play game X or Y. As long as they influence each other in a positive feedback loop, who cares.
As a new player, yes. as far as the modern MMOs go BDO for a long time has been the de facto pay to win MMOs. Or at least, thats the perception I had.
Out of popular MMO's BDO is known as the good pay to win game.

What's the problem with console? At worst, the issue is being behind PC but tbh PC(NA/EU) also have problems being behind SEA.
I played BDO on PC and console.
Console has a lot of inherent issues that fundamentally can’t be fixed. They don’t have vell and other world bosses because they can’t make it work, you can’t ride your horse through town without lagging unless you are jumping, every time you are walking through the game it’s constantly got this big pop up about gathering some random resource. Some of them may be fixable for sure, but there are many more issues console has that the pc version simply doesn’t have to worry about

Funny how Blue doesn t know about Silkroad or Perfect world International or Lineage 2 witch were a lot more popular than wow in Europe back in the days most of these games had servers always full and i think those 3 were kind of before wow .
I don t agree with that guy about new content since Silkroad had better pve content than bdo has i mean the hard grind part dungeons witch in bdo doesn t exist at all ,PWI had some sandbox and nice pve content as well untill they fcked up same as silkroad rofl .(the only thing original about BDO is the sandbox part ,life skills the pve is kinda decent but u can t compare to those games mentioned above and pvp u have nice skills and combos but u don t have pvp :))) )

Only good thing Bdo has going for it is the combat system and then after a while you realize that it’s just not enough to stick around cuz all its other systems are boring.
