BUG DLG BUILD LOG - A 3D PRINTED "LIGHTNIN' BUG" DLG
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 26 мар 2024
- 3D Printed Bug DLG with re-enforced ribs and pod to enable printing with PLA or LW-PLA. All ribs are printed with 3D engineered structures for strength and precision fit. Along with wing jigs for alignment, the precision cutout of carbon fiber spar and leading/trailing edges also add to ease the efforts required for assembly.

Unique servo to boom assembly. Terrific build, I think I will grab these plans and build it. Would love to see a few throws to see how this bird floats, but given the traditional wing skins it will definitely stay up longer than full 3D designs! Thanks for sharing!!
Coming soon!
don't worry. some of us are patient...

This looks real deal ! Excited to see how it flies!
I am also interested in seeing this! 😁
Working on the weather. Please stay tuned

This is a great work and amazing result. Can't wait to see the maiden.
Very soon!
Fascinating and impressive DLG design. Really like how the wings and fuselage pod are designed, constructed. Hopefully the maiden goes as well as it looks. :)
I hope so too!
I love it ! Great little plane !!
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for sharing all of the details, including the print information. I'm an old balsa builder, so seeing those details is interesting. The design is truly clean and graceful. At the ~140 g weight, you'll have a nice flier on your hands. I can't wait to see it in the air!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Welll.... 140 gms is...At least.... 40 gms 'heavy' .
So it will take a toll on performance.
How much is an open question though.. Build it and find out ?
AUW is 127g balanced at 71mm from LE. With LW PLA, there is another~15g saving if desired. This is similar to averaged balsa lightnin’ Bug.
The print files for the wing ribs are designed for the right half of the wing only. For the left side, these would have to be mirrored and rotated.
Thanks for your feedback. I've double checked the files. They are correct for both left/right sides. No change needed. Thanks.
simply perfect...top design....greetings from Firenze Tuscany
Thank you! Cheers!
nice design and buils video. I was dreaming about this glider! thanks a lot
Glad you like it!
@@geode_rc 😘
I started the build but Im already stuck with all the jig pieces 🤣and I have to study more about modifiers but thats another issue😛
@@jeromedupont8994 In principle (if using Cura), you don't need to change anything other than filament related parameters.
A short overview video on modifiers used in my designs: ruclips.net/video/fjzOf6C_fPA/видео.html
@@geode_rcThank you; i will check that , is your jig the same as in your build log?
nice nice nice........................thanks for this....greetings from the netherlands
Our pleasure!
Judging by the use of carbon fibre throughout DLG models I can’t see this is engineered to be strong enough for a ballistic catapult launch. It certainly looks the part, but PLA glued to the end of a CF rod is unlikely to survive a strong centrifugal force. That said, I’ll wait to see the maiden. Excellent build though and mods a plenty will follow if this is an open source project. It has great potential to be a good DLG build.
Nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Vuela alto amigo, que la libertad sea tu motor!!!
Cools … thanks for watching
Thanks!
Welcome!
What covering film did you use in this build?
The green covering films I used is Solite. The clear film is doculam.
Wow. I am going to make one of these! BTW. A heatgun will take all of those wrinkles out in your covering.
Great idea! I need one powerful enough instead of using hair dryer 😀
This is fantastic work.
I have been looking out for this for quite sometime.
I have access to 6mm carbon fibre tube but can't get hold of 7mm CF Tube. So Is it okay to use the 6mm CF Tube instead of the 7mm as per your tutorial? And any suggestions to accomodate 6mm tube instead of 7mm tube. I do have access to 8mm CF tube but that will add more weight, so I thought maybe 6mm will be better in that case.
Please advice, and thanks again for sharing this.
Thanks for your interest. As long as the weight and strength is similar to Skyshark 7mm cf tube that will be ok. Use glass fiber or balsa to thicken to 7mm to help glue to pod2/wing and tail feathers. Have fun building😀
@@geode_rc Thanks for the suggestion. For the balsa Vertical Stabiliser and Elevator, how thick or thin the balsa sheet be?
Hey friend
How do I know where to place the RIB0 in relation to BOOM?
This design is based on Lightnin' Bug DLG. Please refer to updated manual/FAQ (V1.1) for link to Lightnin' Bug plan
Hi, printing right now! Cheers from north Spain.
You forgot to include the tail feathers size and shape to cut. Balsa or white foam? thickness?
Very nice design for the pod and ribs.😎
Cool, thanks. Regarding tail feathers and others, please refer to updated V1.1 manual for link to Lightnin’ Bug plan.
4:00 a cylindrical spar component is LESS resistant to wracking.! because CF is heavy and because the dom of a CF component cannot be optimized, its use is not recommended.
a main wing should have a load-bearing main spar, located at Thirty percent of chord. in the case of non-constant chord wing, the use of a Central main spar is also necessary; this is a spar that spans the width of the fuselage and is located at thirty percent of mac.
Hi What is the thickness of the balsa in the tail?
2 ~ 3mm will do just fine
Thank you very much
it should be understood that during launch, the force goes STRAIGHT, towards the fuselage from the peg.!!!
How it was the maiden?
Coming soon .... waiting for weather to clear up
Must be heavy though, right - built with PLA Pro versus PLA Light...?
AUW is 127g. With LW-PLA it’s possible to save ~15g. Slightly higher than their balsa counterpart
Il manque du diedre pour déclencher un virage sur un modèle 2 axes sans ailerons
DO you have flight footage?
Coming soon. Please stay tuned
does it fly? Or just it can lay on a bench?
This is basically a Lightning’ Bug DLG. I won’t be surprised if the flight characteristics are similar. Stay tuned for maiden flight.
🤣🐙🤡
Why not show how it flies?
Coming soon. Please stay tuned
