All up flying weight ??
@@geoffreygower4911 1000g auw with 1 wall, 5% infill using PLA Pro
@@geode_rc good weight and need a bit more ballast when on a windy slope. Built a similar balsa/fiber glass swivel wing back in the early 90s and it flew great. All guess work then. Look forward to seeing the video. Cheers from OZ
3mf files are broken: can not open in any program... no object or parsing error at line 21
Try Orca or Bambu Studio.
Looking forward to the maiden videos!
How did the brakes work out? I'm guessing the theory is it'll cause more drag? Looks like a nice build. Interested to see it in action
Waiting for re-maiden … stay tuned
Isn't that bad for the servos?
@@johannesgoetzen Only if you operate outside the servo spec limit
xflr5 and flz vortex in the task bar 😁
V2 will come with hexagon surface for optimized airflow under the palm ….xflr5 will be needed 😀
Slope gliders, palm glider, what will you make next 😂
Guess in a few more year I’ll need to make a glider chair for myself😅
Ive just downloaded this and cant wait to print it.
👍
Looks amazing! Do you have an estimated AUW? What size motor will it use?
My PLA "Bug 3DP" ~ 125g. With LW-PLA, 3D printed parts is about ~48g (plus carbon fiber & electronics for AUW). I'm thinking about 1104 or 1507 motor with 2S 350 mAh.
@@geode_rc Very cool. I recently saw your Bug DLG and am very interested in building one, but I'm a bit intimidated by learning how to use wing covering film. Time to learn a new skill I suppose
It’s sliced in regular mode (1 wall, 0% infill)with modifiers at selected layers
Then I'll have to activate my printers again😊
is this sliced in surface mode?
Love It. I will buy and build one for me. This model was designed in Rynoceros?
Thank you ! Yes, it’s designed in Rhino7… Before purchase, I would recommend review the free manual and RCGroups forum. Not everyone can enjoy the print/build process 😅
Am thinking of printing this using PLA+ instead of PA-CF, as PLA+ is more economical and readily accessible to me. Earlier thought of building Bug 3DP, but as I primarily use OrcaSlicer with Ender V3 KE, I found this files more easy to work with. Am almost done mapping all the files for my printer in OrcaSlicer. Any advice will be highly appreciated. I don’t have access to 7mm OD tube. Instead I can get 6mm OD or 8mm OD tubes, both of which are with 1mm shell thickness. Which one is recommended?
Great to hear you’re making good progress. PLA+ is ok , just be careful not to over shrink the covering film. Otherwise, the ribs might bend. Same for tail feathers. 6mm will be better….. 1mm wall likely will be heavier than Skyshark P90 tube.
@@geode_rc thanks for the advice. Will make sure that I don’t over shrink the film. As I’ll be using PLA +, will try to keep the temp lower when applying the film.
@@geode_rc I have started printing few parts and they came out quite well. Currently editing/remodelling the pod_rib_c1 to change the hole which is for 7mm tube to fit 6mm tube (as per the relative calculation am keeping the hole to have diameter of 6.4mm). I hope thats the correct hole size for 6mm tube. Thanks again for sharing this model. Any chance if 4-channel with aileron version for 1 or sub 1meter DLG coming soon?
@@cnsapam great know that you’re good at modeling. I use 0.2mm per side to compensate for the 0.4mm wall thickness in CAD. If needed, remaining thickness compensation is taking care at slicer. As for 4-ch dlg, I’m thinking about that… still long way to go though. BTW, if possible, please join us on RCGroups. It’s easier to communicate technical details on the forums with pictures/ graphics.
Looks like it flies like a brick. :) with enough wind, you can slope soar pretty much anything.
Yeh, as low as 12 mph wing is good enough 😀
This is fantastic work. I have been looking out for this for quite sometime. I have access to 6mm carbon fibre tube but can't get hold of 7mm CF Tube. So Is it okay to use the 6mm CF Tube instead of the 7mm as per your tutorial? And any suggestions to accomodate 6mm tube instead of 7mm tube. I do have access to 8mm CF tube but that will add more weight, so I thought maybe 6mm will be better in that case. Please advice, and thanks again for sharing this.
Thanks for your interest. As long as the weight and strength is similar to Skyshark 7mm cf tube that will be ok. Use glass fiber or balsa to thicken to 7mm to help glue to pod2/wing and tail feathers. Have fun building😀
@@geode_rc Thanks for the suggestion. For the balsa Vertical Stabiliser and Elevator, how thick or thin the balsa sheet be?
hi, by 2x 5gram serwos, what waight should be the battery ? Thanks for creating and sharing😁👍👍👍
1S 350 ~ 500 mAh battery will do just fine. Some nose weight might be needed depending on your setups
Good evening, printed the right-hand wing jig this afternoon and it printed as one piece instead of separated as depicted in the design layout and this video (3:48 minutes). I am using Cua as my slicing software, is there something that I need do to allow for this? Thank you!
Best to use Orca slicer, otherwise you would need to export as “generic” 3mf from Orca/Bambu Studio, then open in Cura as “project”. If there is still problems, please share a picture ( preferably on RCGroups). Easier to debug 😀
I am disappointed. I bought files from you with out knowing that it was 3fm files and that i had to use an out of date Cura slicer to slice them...! Just to make it all worse. My new K1 printer will not print files from that old Cura slicer. It ended up with money lost, and wasted time.... You need to write the specs one your site so that people can read what they need to know before they spend money.
If you’re using Cura, please just open as “project”. You can use latest Cura or older Cura 4.13. Both will work just fine. Let me know if this works for you. Thanks.
@@geode_rc If i can get away with it i am never using Cura. It is not a very good slicer compared to slicers like Orca, Prusa, Simplify3D... I have now looked in to Cura and i need to change settings in every single piece if i use Cura to make it work on my printer. That is a lot of time spent that i don´t want to spend. All because it is 3mf files. If it was proper STL files i would make a printer profile and just slice every file using that profile. 3mf files might be nice if it is used on the same type of printer you use. It is not a good way when the files you are selling are used on different printer. And don´t expect that every body uses Cura. Cura is a piece of software that noobs use until they see the light and move on. Sorry if i am stepping on some ones toes... The short answer for now is, no thank you i am out as long as there is no STL files for this thing.
@@geode_rc It might work if i spend the time changing settings in all the files. I need to change settings to make it work with my printer. 3mf files are not very practical. STL files are quicker to work with compared to 3mf. I am going to cut my losses and end this project now. And Cura is not a very nice slicer to work with. We need STL files that work in Orca slicer...
the 3mf files have all the settings required to print on Ender 3 V2. For K1, please modify printer specific parameters to get the best out of speedy K1. BTY, TPU needs to be printed slowly bc of flexible filament. 3mf is a superset of stl. Simply export stl from 3mf (see user manual & my YT video on how to export stl).
@@geode_rc I know how to print TPU, have been doing that for years. I know how to modify printer parameters. The issue here is that i need to do it on every single part. With STL files i only need to make one printer profile and then slice all the parts with that profile setting. In one way 3mf is a good format, just not for you are using it for here. Selling files to people, it needs to be easy to slice and print. 3mf is not easy... Why do you think that every body else that are selling 3D printed airplanes are using STL files as the end product? I did export from your 3mf, the STL file i got only works in Cura... This wing is a waste of money and time, end of story.
This is the first time I have ever seen a 100 percent TPU sailplane! Incredible! Flies fast for 12mph winds, so it must be pretty heavy. Regardless, still beautiful and innovative! Looking forward to a build video and more details. Keep it up!
Thanks for watching. Design & construction video is available here - ruclips.net/video/eoSnLrfQoRs/видео.html
Why are there two horizontal stabilizers? It seems one of them has an additional bracing on the front 1/3rd, not sure which to choose.
It's a tradeoff between strength and weight. Depend on how strong you like to launch.
Great looking wing. What's the wing loading and wing span?
Vital - Standard Valkyrie Span - 90 (cm) Area - 19.3 (dm2) Mass - 780 (g) Loading - 40.4 (g/dm2)
How are you mounting your FPV system?
Thanks for watching. At this moment, this is not ready for FPV. A redesign of the front/rear end is required for FPV & motor.
Nice. Like how TPU hinge is integrated Appears that elevon just slides on, a nice design detail. That was a serious tumble weed demonstration, something that is typically hard on a flying wing.
Thanks❤
Nice. You play with varioshore yet? I was thinking of CF reinforced low density vase mode TPU but not sure if I should bother. Eventually ..
Not yet. I use 98A Shore hardness TPU with CF spar. I would try harder TPU if they’re available.
woww... the first impact is very hard.... great idea in use TPU
Thank you !
How do you get rid of the wall-looking thingies that are intervened within the object?
Not sure which one you referring to. Could you show a picture? Or time stamp on the video?
What is the designing software that you use?
I know now. I figured it out.

Thanks!
where do you get your covering film?
I got mine 15 yrs ago from local hobby shop. If you can’t find light weight covering film, try thinnest doculam (~2mils). I use that on my tail feathers.
Great and thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
can i skining the wing with copypapper?
Not recommended. Likely too heavy.
Where do I get the files for this... if you can help.
Please see link in the video description for the files.
Hi, how many grams of lead is needed to balance it?
For a 5% infill PLA fuselage, roughly ~100g nose weight is required. This weight can be furteher reduced with a higher % infill in the nose section to reduce the lead needed or with LW-PLA tail feathers.
The print files for the wing ribs are designed for the right half of the wing only. For the left side, these would have to be mirrored and rotated.
Thanks for your feedback. I've double checked the files. They are correct for both left/right sides. No change needed. Thanks.
Which wingprofile do you use?

I’m determined to 3D print a DLG one day. We’re getting closer. Thanks for this! My current 3D printer can’t print this material, but my next one will be able to 😎 Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦
👍 … BTY, You can do it with PLA+ …. Check out my BUG 3DP in my YT channel
What covering film did you use in this build?
The green covering films I used is Solite. The clear film is doculam.
Very good. Do you have any projects with ailerons?
Yes… for slope soaring …. ruclips.net/p/PL9Pbd3mrLY1V5lDbKXBP0k-YYS6rrTWCN&si=tiKJRDUT9BaTQU-k
Can you upload the files in the format stl files please :)
STL only will lost lots of information needed to print. Please open the 3mf file using Bambu Studio or Orca slicer. Export the STL from there to keep the info needed for "modifiers" & print profiles. It is recommended to use Bambu Studio or Orca slicer than porting the STL files.
Hi, I'm downloading the file But something doesn't work for me with the file It comes in an incorrect format can you help thanks
This 3mf release is for Bambu Studio / Orca slicers. Please give it a try again. Thanks.

Such an inspirational design. Many intriguing techniques used here from the printed wing jig to the use of carbon. Thanks for creating and sharing. ♥👍
Very welcome!🤗
Very nice! What glue did you use for assembly?
Thank you. I use thick CA throughout.
The model looks spectacular, I need one in my collection XD
Thanks you
When I try to open your 3mf files with Cura or prusa slicer it tells me that there are no objects in the file, can you help me?
This release is designed for Bambula Studio / Orca slicer. Thanks for downloading
Very elegant design. My only question in the build was the spring loaded rudder and elevator. I understand why you did this was for weight and ease of string servo control, but, as your crash indicated, expecting the spring up force during momentum didn’t happen as I predicted. I advise a lightweight aluminum rod (I have used bike spokes) to provide reliable servo control to surfaces. Otherwise many thanks for releasing the STL files, I am tempted to build it! Keep it up!
I use spring and string even on 1.5M DLG. Never had any issues.
No decent DLG uses push rods. Too much weight and drag. Springs and strings are the way to go.
Hello. It is possibile to put some small motor?
I have an eBug with VTail on my to do list. Stay tuned.
If you want to print a motorized glider, there are many out there to choose from. I’m glad this is a hand-launch model; we need more of those.
