Cannot agree more, perhaps the product of the year! What a fantastic deal and stupendous sound with external DAC. I believe I also got subtle improvements using a low noise iFi wall power module and the iFi ETH filter to optically couple the ETH router source to the streamer. I have such respect for you and your channel. Great review of the software which is such a bonus. Keep up the great work.

Nice review! This little device compares favorably to building a Raspberry Pi based streamer (which would end up costing about $300). And if you are going to use a better external DAC, would you really gain any better sound quality with one of the new low-cost, $500 USD streamers by NAD or Cambridge Audio? Wow, you got a summertime haircut!

WiiM Mini here... Circa 2017 Zu Omen Dirty Weekend speakers, a vintage, circa 1969 Sansui 2000 stereo receiver and the WiiM Mini as a Preamp/DAC/Streamer. I cannot get over the sound this setup puts out. I am, and continue to be blown away with the sound coming out of that old Sansui with the WiiM. Synergy, this gear has synergy. I will not say what gear I have had and have right now, as I would probably be attacked. But, I could easily part with it all and stick with this setup. I have $1300 invested in the actual gear. The Zu's and Sansui, I bought used, paid $74 for the WiiM, I will pick up a Pro for the software functions later.
I never thought I would get this much sound out of this stupid little puck, especially the DAC after all of the reviews I have heard and read that were not very nice to it. What pulls all of this together, is the WiiM EQ, if not for that, I would have sent it back. The EQ takes the WiiM and my system to another plane in regards to sound. The detail is there, and easily dialed in. The natural sounding tubiness of the Sansui is still there. The Bass, I have two SVS SB-3000 subs in the house, I have turned them off. Voicing, horns, strings, etc, no sibilance, no harshness or digital glare. And as Tharbamar stated, the WiiM is DEAD SILENT, even on this old Sansui. I am now officially a fanboy. I even cancelled my order for that new EverSolo streamer... I can live with this system.

Just got my Wiim Pro to place Zen Stream, what I've noticed is it's much more responsive, not sure if it's because of Roon Ready, but it's much faster to shuffle songs, like no delay. While Zen Stream slow to power on, laggy playback, occasional problems here and there, I'm happy to go with Wiim Pro, listening experience improved a lot, not saying sonically Wiim Pro is better but overall experience outclass Zen Stream. I think being an affordable product Wiim Pro should ditch the DAC make it steam only, but TBH if Miim Mini is Roon Ready with bigger ram I'm happy to downgrade to that little box.

Not at all. Heard it. Then I heard my Limetree Lindemann Bridge. Worlds apart. Thanks for helping show small cheap products.

Not world apart, just about $800 apart.
the real question is, is it worth it if you’re going to use it with external DAC?
Another question is why would anyone pay a lot more money for lesser performing product in general?

@@Tharbamar yes. Both these options went into my RME ADI 2. There’s an audible difference between this little doohickey, then Bluesound Node, then Limetree. All with external LPS, which itself makes a massive diff.

I see, basically the sound difference is from FPGA programming other than pure digital signal processing.

I could not disagree more. The Wiim Pro is a $150 paperweight. Total Disappointment. Connected my turntable per the instructions, and could only play it on a single echo. Was hoping for whole house play as promised by Wiim. After that failure, I tried streaming Amazon Music and Spotify to my Echo speakers around the house. Another huge fail. It didn't play at all. I'm shocked no one has come up with a way to play a turntable across a home network.
