You gotta be the only one whose pie iron videos are worth a damb. I hate the youtube algorithm. You should not be that far down in the search. Subscribed keep up the delicious looking camp food.
Awesome - thanks so much! Good thing I do campfire cooking for the pleasure (and the EATING) of it. 😂 I've got a recipe ideas list a mile long, so there's plenty more in store. 🔥🍳
Well, if I weren’t already subscribed, I wouldn’t be able to hit that subscribe button fast enough! Making my mouth water! I can’t wait to try GF versions of these! Awesome and creative! Thanks!!
got some more to try out now. get into a betty crocker cookbook & lookup date bars. make up your filling that way willbe more spreadable. now i gotta try these date bars with phyllo. when i make a batch i make'm extra thick. i double the crust / dough. had a local bakery that made date bars with white sugar instead of brown. sold pieces 2 x 2 x 2. they set the standard. sprinkle white sugar between the layers. the melted sugar causes the glue effect.
Yeah sorry about that; I really just freeformed that one. My goals were just to make sure the spinach was really dry, to cram as much feta in as possible, and barely enough olive oil to lube it all up.
Hi Martha! Love this episode--so much good stuff! Do you use fresh shredded potato or thawed frozen? Same with spinach--thawed frozen or fresh and cooked ahead?
Thanks! Thawed from frozen for both. For the spinach, also rolled and gently squished in several layers of paper towel (or one real towel) to get as much moisture out as possible. You could totally use cooked from fresh, as long as it's dried as described above.
Loving the pie iron chef series! So does the iron got just to the side of the flames? Like in the coals area? How long does it typically take to cook something? Also where did you find the pie iron? We have gluten free peeps in my family so it’s been interesting to watch and think of different things to try!
Typically, indirect heat is called for. Otherwise you get burned on the outside / cold in the middle. Most things take maybe 10-15 minutes. I’ve had mine for about 15 years now and probably originated at Walmart or Target. 😄 These days you can also find them on Amazon. amzn.to/3Pxtbrj
Also in lieu of a bready exterior, shredded potatoes can work, though they’re a little trickier to work with. If not crispy, they can stick. A few whacks on the firepit will release most stuck foods. 😂
@@ShoestringMartha thanks so much for replying! I keep commenting as I work my way through your videos haha. I appreciate your patience and responses. Good to know a Walmart iron can potentially work!!! 😆

The ONLY pie iron videos I have ever watched except one time..some guy dressed as a boy scout..only watched about a minute then GONE
You are the Pie Iron Queen.
This is one of the best realistic camp cooking videos I've watched. Looks soooo yummy 😋
You are the Princess of Pie Irons…
beautiful job! Thanks for some gourmet ideas while camping.

So crispy! I need to do phyllo, round two.

That looks delicious!
Thanks, it was! Date rolls were my favorite -- 100% would make again. Wish I'd added more phyllo layers to the brie, but I got impatient. 😄
Finally a pie iron recipe video with scratch cooking! I just got my (first) pie iron, and these are the types of recipes I imagined baking.
Many more to come! I just did peach upside down cake that was darn tasty 😋 (video forthcoming 😉)
Hi Martha. I have never used Phyllo dough but I am definitely going to now. AND I'm going to get a pieiron! Love your videos.
It’s tedious but so worthwhile!
Thanks for the idea
This is awesome 👌
I've been struggling to find pie iron recipes that weren't just..predictable? The usual standbys. I can't wait to try these 😊❤
Welcome aboard! I mean, grilled cheese and apple pies are great n all - but they can do so much more 😄
so many layers! Great idea.
Those looked yummy. Tfs 🤙🏽🌺
Yum! You have given me so many new ways to use the pie iron. I can’t wait to try some on my next camping adventure.
Yesss!! 👏👏👏
Thought for just a second that was a deer came to the kitchen for lunch...lol
Yummm. So clever!
looks delicious! A recipe would have been nice to see how much spinach/feta etc. :) Beautiful dogs btw!

Here is your recipe for spanakopita: chop spinach, toss with crumbled feta cheese. Stuff into pie pan. Cook.

@@jeniferokeywsu these days you can find square & round.
How do you prepare your shredded potatoes?
The lazy way 😂 They were either frozen or the refrigerated “Simply Potatoes” hash browns, but they definitely came from a bag.
Waaaaaaahhhhhhhhh~~~
We call our standards “camp clean”!
I like that 😂
