    Watching those "old" videos Is amazing HOW much you improved in your "presentation" in only few months.
    Truly impressive!

    Through most of my time being into D&D, I never had a group to play with. So I would collect the books, write characters and narratives, all that just by myself. And while I had more than a few failed campaigns that just sort of fizzled out, I kept learning. And now, I play consistently and play games I really enjoy. So that's my advice. Don't give up on the game. Keep working at it. Keep improving. You'll find your place.

    I could swear you would put Matt Mercer after the "Nobody is born freaking perfect..."
    Was not disappointed though :D

      Why?! Matt has NEVER said anything about people being perfect, nor does he pretend that he knows the rules PERFECTLY.

      @@JacksonOwex that doesn't prevent me from having him as my DM role model. It's not about what he says and believes in, but my own personal view on his work and how it inspires me to be a better DM. I'm very much aware of the fact that there's no such thing as a "perfect DM" and that Matt very humbly strives to digress from that wrongly woven concept. Furthermore, I meant the comment as a joke, made on top of another joke from the video (which put Ryan Reynolds as someone perfect) 😉

    Also homebrewing in more passive scores, that you calculate the same as normal passive scores can be a good idea so you know when your players character is so naturally good at something that there’s no point in making a role.

    The only times I'll do a check is if the player needs it (climbing a wall) or just to screw with them in a dungeon ...

    • @MonkeyDM
      @MonkeyDM  3 года назад +2

      You can do that, but all the Persuasion, Deception, Perception, and other social checks are quite important to add life to social encounters :)

      @@MonkeyDM True indeed, I'd even say critical. It drives folks to RP who might not otherwise do it.
      I just like to screw with them and make them do investigation checks randomly for the "spooky" factor. I guess I never really grew out of my "emmerdeur" phase.

    As a player, I was terrified, that after 8 months in a campaign, I had an argument with my DM about WHICH CLASS USES WHAT SPELLCASTING MODIFIER. At this point I think I know the rules better than my DM which is not supposed to be the case.
