That was an ace coaster. It wasn’t rubbish though. The drops were massive in their day, and the twisty bits were incredibly forceful and deliciously violent.
It was my first ever roller coaster, can't remember what age but I was swearing my head off with my mates dad right behind us.
It was great 👍
Epic special effects 👏🏻 Used to love lightwater valley, it’s where everyone from Yorkshire went who’s parents couldn’t be arsed to drive to Alton Towers.
We went there a few times with school never went anywhere like this with my parents

Until they redesigned the restraints to be a lap restraint, people used to get off with ear studs embedded in their necks from the impact with the over shoulder restraints. After the mod you were tossed around like a rodeo bull instead. Great fun. I'm so sad my daughter, who loves roller coasters, never got the chance to ride it before it was shut down. We only live a few miles away too, and would have made it there one day.
Fantastic, next to the ultimate hidden in the trees is where their used to be an indoor roller coaster all the rides queue line and that remains but the ride itself has gone. The Ultimates trains are being stored in their too

You guys were crazy for climbing that, I'm glad you got down safely. When I saw that it was built with wood I was a little nervous for you guys. I did like the video though, that explosion with Al was unexpected but cool at the same time. Looking forward to the next video, take care guys.

In Vancouver we have a wooden rollercoaster that was built in 1958. It just has a lap bar to hold you in and hits almost 80 km/h, I almost fell out once when I was 10. It still runs but it gets shut down for maintenance.
My childhood school trips were are Lightwater Valley and we loved it. I can remember when the Ultimate was built some years later but I also remember the 'Rat' ride vanished and I think part of that became the Ultimate. The Rat ride was if you were walking into a sewer in pitch black with little lighting with red glowing eyes everywhere. That was all wooden inside including the roller-coaster. I may be wrong but it's possible. I enjoyed many happy days there with friends. Nice to see you guys having a look about it ! 👏
I remember the rat ride! they changed it to raptor attack with lots of dinosaurs! but it wasn’t as good because it wasn’t as dark:(
Hi. The Rat never became part of the Ultimate and they were operational at the same time, As the other person mentioned it became Raptor attack, at which point it had been operational along with the Ultimate for many years. Both now sadly gone - The Rat was however positioned right by the Ultimate entrance.
Thats a ridiculous wooden coaster. I'd never be able to rest my cup of tea on that.

I was also reading about the history of this coaster and it was apparently recreated as The Storm" in the "Katie's Dreamland" scenario in the original RollerCoaster Tycoon PC game :)

I’m not scared of heights generally as I live up scaffold and tall ladders for my job half the time…but up a knackered wooden structure..kudos…it’s like the level of health n safety in Russia for day to day work..was bricking it for you lads! Love it! A’s invented ‘sheep trees’😅

This whole thing was just like the first twenty minutes of Shaving Ryan's Privates.
Honestly very surprised there was no security or builders on site to be seen, they have started to remove parts of the ride for scrap. Huge guts to all of you for even attempting to climb it, wouldn't trust that wood at all now saying the ride probably hasnt been looked after since 2019
been on this coaster a few times, one rough ride. Sometimes it would slow to a stop and had a tractor at the ready to pull it along a section of the track, lol. Was built by the British Rail Engineering, be sad to see it gone.
I have to admit the special effect caught me off guard and scared the crap out of me lol.

Remember when we went on a school trip and went on it. I can still hear the clicking noise when the carriage hit the chain on the floor to pull it up. Good old days. Not been to LWV in over 20 years. Feel old now. haha... Thanks for that guys 🙂
Fond memories of lightwater Valley from before it was a theme park with rides like the rat and the ultimate! It had bmx bikes and 50cc motorcycles and the death slide that was just a massive wood slide that had a 90° drop and a tunnel you had to climb up to use the slide. And the first time I ever went you had to pay for each ride! Then go strawberry picking afterwards then spew up on the way home in the car! Lightwater Valley was shit but it was our shit!

That coaster was amazing. So sad it’s gone.
It was rough in 2000 when I went as a kid, so can't imagine what it was like in 2019. Good memories of it nonetheless, the first hill climb got you hyped to receive neck damage.
The highlight of this park for me was the old dark ride that closed in 2009, called the Sewer Rat in the 90's, or "raptor attack" before it closed. World's first underground coaster.

Lightwater Valley went downhill after they got rid of the Hell Slide.

I went on that the first week it opened, it was the highest rollercoaster at the time. When you got to the top it paused for a moment so you could see across the park, before being catapulted forward down that big drop.

I went on that in 1992/93 ish- one in lightwater valley about that time, when u went over the 1st big drop, all I seen was a damaged pile of old roller coasters, not the best site to see.

So at the point around 12.30 you asked what is that. There were certain points on the flats of this ride where the train would often slow to a stop. There were winch points along these areas where a rope or chain could be attached to the train to get it moving again. That's why there's a sign saying 'if the car stops please stay in your seat'
