I've been using the X1D + 3.2 / 90 for some time now and I want to say it's an amazing camera. My main system is Canon EOS R, but hasselblad is a unique camera, a different feeling from the resulting image.
Give me this gorgeous Hasselblad any day over the hundreds of look-alike Nikons, Canons, Fujis, Sonys et al. The latter have hundreds of bells, whistles, menus, sub-menus, sub-sub-menus, and exponential numbers of options and combinations! I want the SQUARE and I want a minimalist, aesthetically pleasing camera that offers me ISO, aperture and shutter speed settings in the most straightforward form. Only the Hasselblad and the Leica do that. We agree on many, many points. Great review!
Hey there, thanks for your input on the X1D Mk ii. BTW the original Mk i was more expensive with a silver top plate and there was a variation to that one with an identifier of something like X1D 4119 that was a special edition that is all black. But the Mk ii is a second gen of the X1D prior to the X2D. The primary reasons why I'm considering the X1Dii are 1) Build Quality 2) Size and ergonomics 3) the Hasselblad Color Science 4) Image quality 5) and most importantly a special crop to mimic the Hasselblad XPan film camera specifically for landscape and with the new 28mm lens for the X system, the results would be incredible. PS.... Leaf shutter lenses allow flash sync at any shutter speed. Oh and if you switch to electronic shutter you can get shutter speeds faster than 2000 if you needed it. Cheers!
I’m not going to watch this because when you reviewed the 50 Lux I started saving for one and if this is along the same lines my kids are going to have to go to a community college 😢
Sorry I disagree with the sound, I think the sounds are freaking awesome coming from those lenses, its like its alive and its a robot, might be the nerd in me but I love shutter and focus sounds.
great review Benj, I’m a Fuji-X user and currently I’m looking for a Medium-Format camera for increase my product photography shot’s quality. I know that Fuji GF cameras are more affordable and lenses are cheaper, I used many times them but they look so bad and anonymous imho. GFX50S II/100S/100 for me are so worst talking about style and they lost one of the things that I loved most about Fuji cameras: the ISO&shutter dials. This camera looks so nice and I’m waiting to know if Hasselblad’s distribution will loan it to me for a medium-term time, I’m so curious about how it works. For sure it looks great and gives you a lot of satisfaction while using it, AF performances has never been a problem or a pro in my kind of photography.. My hopes are that this camera isn’t just a “style-exercise” or a pricy object, I would be sad to discover that. BTW your review is so interesting, “natural” and detailed (many youtubers cares only about duration just for the advertises) and I love the way you talk, it’s clear that you’re not fake. thanks a lot, happy holidays and stay safe. Peace, Mauro
I'd say the Hasselblad is the perfect studio camera or should be ideal for commercial work where each shot is prepared sometimes for 1 or two hours. It defintely is not the Leica Q which you can pick up and go in streetphotography. Ideally you have both and they are integrated in your own workflow and complement each other. That's what I went for. Thank you for this great review.
Awesome, thank you for the video, really enjoy your reviews! You’ve now reviewed 2 of the 3 cameras I own (Leica & X1DII)...hopefully you can try and review the Contax G2 as well :D
I appreciate the info on the adapted stuff with the electronic shutter. Definitely was the concept that most intrigued me, but now will help me not spend money.
biggest bummer for me by far. I get it, the leaf shutter thing is what Hasselblad is known for, but sucks that the processor can't read out the sensor fast enough.
I like this review a lot, thanks. I recently picked up the GFX50r and everything you said is basically what I am dealing with and how your ecosystem works with weddings. Using it along with the XT4 and Xpro3.
If you liked this then it boy wait until you try a Hasselblad H system camera, ask your Hasselblad rep if you can try a H6D with the 100mm, really spicy stuff.
Can you make a video on comparing the Nikon Df with the Fuji GFX 50R for the colours curiouse how Pixel pitch would compare also SNR signal noise sound ratio also have them both printed out if possible a side by side comparison
Good video. I have a 500cm and am saving for the X1d2. Everything you said in the intro about Hasselblad gear being inspiring feel the same with me. Side question; Where did you get those straps? Looking for a reasonably priced leather strap for my 500cm. thanks
I ended up doing a little hack by purchasing the OPTECH adapters and then cutting off the material to add the Peak Design hardware. My original strap was from Gordy’s but I didn’t like it being held on by such thin string :/
@@benjhaisch - Thank you. I actually have the OpTech strap on my 500cm. Ugly to me but functional, but I want a little more asthetics. I did see those Gordys straps and feel the same way about the camera hanging by a string. I may need to adapt my Optech to a nicer looking strap like you did.
I started with the X1D II. Then with the 907 / CFV II was released this year (2020) - standard edition not the special moon edition, I decided to also acquire the 907. Initially I was informed delivery was December. So I shopped for a 500 CM, which came late in September, just before my 907 actually arrived. So now, I have the best all of all worlds. Straight film with the 500 CM, 500 CM and CFV II digital back, 907 with X lenses as well as the ability to use V series lenses, like the 80mm from the 500 CM, and finally the option with the X1D. My lenses range from 21, 30, 45, 45p (SUPER QUIET), 90, 120, 135 + 1.7 extender. Just a great pleasure to shoot with. Will probably add the two remaining primes, and maybe the X series zoom this year.
thanks for video and detailed explanation. I shoot Nikon where i need speed but when I wanna enjoy and dont have special needs just shhot Leica. recently Im looking for a small package to take everywhere and looking for best camera and got stuck between X1D and Q2. dont care about the price just which one is practical and best image quality? thanks again
People complain about the price but they don't stop and realize, dude: it is a MF mirrorless!!! Do you know the amount of R&D that went into doing this!?
haha. Funny to see we have so many similarities. Not only our beard but I also have this video back 1 month ago in my channel shooting wedding editorial clothes w the Hasselblad X1DII then I checked we have the same taste as well for the XMas gift ideas. :))
Fuji is much heavier. Fuji picture the color very is similar to Nikon or Canon. Hasselblad picture is very sharp and just a different color tone, and camera weight very light. Price yes it is expensive.
If you can snag a deal on a used one with some XCD lenses. I wouldn’t buy this if you’re planning on adapting though, but if you like the native lens lineup, it’s great.
I’m hoping that with dji owning a lot of shares in hassleblad that they will jump on and help on the tech side. Something makes me feel that they are standing on the shoulders of giants they need to live up to it
@KingJulienA I dunno, those files are the best I’ve used and the lenses are top notch. Sure I’d like a bigger sensor as well, but the only thing I’m currently looking for in that system is tracking AF and I’m totally sold.
ill be shooting this body for my wedding on december. would be interesting and scary at the same time but i like risks! shoot me a message if you'd like to see if i failed/succeeded and if you'd want to see the images by then. wish me luck
Leica, old Blads and that sexy new Blad, sometimes your videos are just porn and should be rated pegi18. I think the Blad is the most avant garde camera that came out in a lot of years. The more I watch videos and information about medium format, the more I realize how unnecessary it is for most people. Manipulating the files is a big pro. If you do high end commercial or gallery work there are some ups as well. But everything else... seeing the wedding photos: Nobody will print them huge enough that it is important. 99,9% won't see a difference between MF and FF (or even APS-C) watching those pictures. The shallow depth of field is great, but a F1.8, F1.4 or F1.2 is giving me the same options (for the real world use). I think that it's more about the very small "ups" that kind of leads to people with too much money to spend to say "it's go the best IQ so that's what I want!" and sure why not. So those kind of clients might be interested. But at the end of the day stuff like AF performance, FPS, etc. is much more important for most shoots. So I'd rather use a R5 or A7RIII/IV A9/II or A1. I feel like MF cameras - right now - are more of a philosophy. A bit like LEICA. They don't necessarily outperform other FF cameras (or even are just not as good in many areas), but they are more expensive and give you a "special feeling" about your equipment. Probably you also have kind of more meditative approach to photography (in German there is a great word: "entschleunigt" something like slowed down... but I don't know if there is a 1 to 1 translation). You can pseudo mimic this kind of impression on FF but it's a different look really. To me it kills the 3 dimensionality of an image often and flattens it. Doesn't always work. Lens compression is always there. It's simply a different aesthetic for different tastes or purposes.
