BLESS you Yale and the host, Cortney Martin, for beginning this historic conversation with the explicit honoring of the American Indigenous People who made up all the Nations who not only stewarded the land that has come to be called "Connecticut", Quinnehtukqut, but were among the Confederacy that TAUGHT our American Democracy that we practice NOW to the invading and immigrating colonizers from Europe who were subjects of despotic monarchies. THIS is such a beautiful sign of our blooming democracy as we practice better and more thruthful ways to live and govern together. I am so PROUD of Sonia Boyce and Great Britain for such a profound representation at this year's Venice Biennale Arte. I am even moved to TEARS with JOY that my Nation, The United States of America, chose Simone Leigh to represent us in Venice!! I hope this will be simply ONE "FIRST" of MANY colonizer-led Nations to LIFT UP and CENTER the vision and VOICE of their OWN African women artists, for they are the LIVING descendant survivors of GENERATIONS of African women who BIRTHED and NURTURED not only the LABOR force of these African SLAVER-led Economies, but are the very ROOT of their WEALTH and culture. Bless you ALL for such BEAUTIFUL documenting of our collective world HISTORY as we begin global amends to our international disappearing, white washing, appropriation, degradation, and raping of our African feminine narratives. These women, Sonia Boyce and Simone Leigh, are both PHENOMENAL artists completely independent of their blackness, westerness, and/or feminism and quite DESERVING of honoring.
