In Moscow where you you see Sweet Tooth's banner, you should be able to use a napalm or two to reveal a code to use Sweet Tooth as a playable character. In Paris you can use napalm on a painting with the teleportation room to reveal Minion's code to play as him. There's a code that's only visible when you fall off the stage in New York. I forget what that code does. Also, in New York you can use fire missiles to change how the Statue of Liberty looks, but it'll take multiple playthroughs to see all her outfits. In L.A. you can shoot the Hollywood sign with fire missiles or the machine guns to reveal a code to play in Cyburbia.
@dessadoo , no problem, sir! This was my first game that introduced me to the Twisted Metal series. I can't remember if the other banners for Moscow revealed useful codes or not. I agree with you that the game involves you knowing things before you play it. I think the original gaming manuals had some of the basic codes that the game didn't really explain at all. Worst case scenario I think you can probably find all of them using Google, lol.
Just gotta learn how to become the backshot king and Roadkill will be your new favorite! Hit me up anytime and I can help increase your backshot game brother
@@VicariousNickk Damn right. Roadkill is my main. Gotta learn to aim those boomerangs just to the right or left to hit them on the return. Until you learn to aim them for the return shot on the move, you aren't really playing Roadkill. Advanced move: Fire it at nothing and immediately turbo for a second afterwards. If timed properly this will stop it from returning to the car and it will endlessly try but never catch up, doing a circle around the car. Free hyper deadly shield.

Just to give you a helping hand and you don't have to use it but as any Character you can use Minion's Special by pressing Up, Down, Up, Up, R2 but it will use Up most or all of you energy bar. There are alote of cheese in this game as well it just takes time to get to know the spots. Im glad to see you still playing on with the series and goodLuck i will be watching and enjoying
Not ideal in a game where you need meter for shield to survive. Also, if 3 button commands are that difficult to pull off, imagine 5. On PC it would be fine, but PS1 is unforgiving.
I remember growing up with this game and playing it with my dad before I hit the 4th grade and kept playing it until the disc broke five years later. I never really took note of the flaws this old game had, but I loved the speed and the chaos. I don't think I ever beat Holland, but I never used any passcodes because I never wrote them down and couldn't remember how to use most of the specials, so I would grind the game with Warthog. I only saw the Hong Kong stage while my dad was playing; I was terrified and captivated by Dark Tooth. I hope you fall in love with the relentless gameplay like I did. Much love, and hoping to see more soon. 😁
@datboidrummer29 look bro, there's nothing sus about whipping out your "special move" In front of someone only to surprise them with a reach around for a harder impact... 🤣🤣🤣
@@dessadoo Very insightful video actually. I'm a big TM2 fan but I think you nailed a lot of your takes on how unforgiving it can be to new players and highlighted a lot of issues with the game's design that my rose-tinted glasses seem to prevent myself from seeing. Don't know how much of it comes down to the hardware you play it on but some of the handling and physics can definitely be an acquired taste. Hope you end up enjoying it more as the series goes on though. Something you can try to do is the special command up, down, up, up, machine gun. It'll let you blast off Minion's special attack at the cost of your entire special bar and vaporizes just about any opponent. It's pretty much the only thing that got me through a lot of this game way back in the day.
OH RIGHT Y'ALL, IT'S TM2 TIME! I interrupted my regularly scheduled shitpost feed doomscroll to come here. As for phase 1 Dark Tooth stock up on ricochet and homing. Get into the center building on the 2nd floor where the health is, and just freeze and pummel him with homers and ricos since he can't use the teleporter.
For this video series on TM2...I'm going to focus mainly on the characters, their and their stories, because this is the one place where TM2 truly shines above all other games in the series (save Head-On, which is modeled directly on TM2's style and tone). Marcus Kane really gets his start here, and it's the sort of dark story that really sets the tone for TM2. He's a troubled man searching for answers and inner peace...only to keep finding himself back where he started amidst death, destruction and carnage. Personally, I always imaged that, in-universe, Marcus Kane was stuck in a cycle of mental Samsara, where every year he wins as Roadkill, he asks Calypso for peace of mind...only to revert to his Sweet Tooth (Needles Kane) persona for the next go-around, who promptly asks for more murder death and carnage until Marcus wakes up again. Having undergone this cycle so often with so many lives taken that it doesn't even feel real to him anymore, Marcus finally asks for closure this go around. (Head-On really leans into this theme a lot too) Though that's just my personal interpretation of the Marcus Kane of TM2 and TM:Head On. IIRC the canon explanation is that the entire Twisted Metal series takes place inside Marcus's Kane's head, where the "real" Marcus, Needles and Calypso are essentially representations of Marcus's conscience, inner demon, and desires.
Twisted Metal 2 & Twisted Metal Black were incredible games that still hold up well today. It actually surprised me that they flopped on the 2012 ps3 reboot, but them removing the soul of the series (the wide selection of unique charcters and their vehicles) guranteed their failure. They let us all down. Now there is nothing similar to TM, and no real demand for it. Sad.
Yeah it’s a shame that no other games are around like TM, but the TV show is pretty great and about to release its second season so at least there’s something going on with TM
yea sweet tooth is mean on this game, love his tv shore theme song, "here comes sweet tooth here comes sweet tooth, dont you run dont you run, if you run i goota chase you, turn you into red goo, dingg dangg dongg dingg dangg dongg."
Best ending in the game. Wish they gave him a better special weapon though. Like maybe a junk projectile that hits and leaves damaging shrapnel on the ground.
So a good tip for getting a few extra weapon spawns on level 2. Bring remote bombs and put them about halfway down the ramps. Each one you destroy gives you an extra spawn point Edit for spelling
I remembered as a kid I had a hot wheels car that looked exactly like twisted metal 2 roadkill just without its guns. Also before I actually use the main cast I actually used minion to practice the game a few times.
You can use the ai aggressiveness to your advantage. You can force them to take paths that you normally wouldn't take. Take Paris as an example it has a lot of side paths you ignored but gives you an overwhelming advantage because they can follow you through them. This is when you strike as now it is 1 way, you have coverage on 2 sides and it is very hard for the ai to run away.
To be good at the tournament mode on tm2 you have to prepare for each level on the previous level. Like Moscow you have to load up on remote bombs on LA and load up on Rico’s for Antarctic on New York. Power weapons for holland
Turbo turbo turbo! Stock up on turbo! Turbo to extinguish flames off your car. You're gonna need turbo especially on the Moscow, Amazonia and Holland levels. Stock up on weapons before you kill the last enemy. Some levels will not provide you enough arsenal to complete all fights. You will survive more if you use your shield when fighting then just drive away when your shield is gone. And try using shield+remote bomb when next to the enemy. You can do a lot of damage and possibly kill them in one fight. And unless you have shield up, don't chase anybody because now they can all rear fire and some will fire rear freeze missiles. And enemies love using specific weapons. For example, Shadow loves firing his special and ricochets that can push you. So if you are on a level like New York or Antarctica I would want to kill him first. Otherwise, he will be a big problem.
when you start talking about how that guy with a short range special has a crazy special but you drive up right beside him so he can hit you with his special 😆 i can't remember when it did but i'm pretty sure Outlaws special is suppose to steal health lol driving with the Dpad for hours is MURDER on the thumb

My lack of TM experience shows here, as I genuinely thought Vigilante 8 was one of the first games to have secret weapon moves. TM has so much more depth than I ever gave it credit. Shame I never really got into it like I did the V8 series.
I have always heard the inputs work better when you have the list view for weapons, for some reason. I don't know how true that is, but a lot of people swear by it and yeah, enemies CAN do damage to each other but it's been confirmed I believe, that they do reduced damage to each other to the point they may as well not even shoot at each other.
They do in fact do reduced damage. I remember Grimm hitting Slam with a special by accident right in front of me, & it only did about as much damage as MAYBE a homing missile. It's ridiculously unfair.
Honestly, I think the learning curve here isn't so much the AI's increased aggression or physics changes. I think it's the maps. Half of them don't offer you much in the way of places to break line of sight. Some of them seem to even consider the concept to be awful, like Moscow and Holland. Couple that WITH the physics and new AI aggression and those become objectively the worst maps in TM2.
My favorite car in the game but i will never understand why they gave him a boomerang in placement of missiles. Maybe to make him more unique? I dunno man, slinging roadkill off the front of your car to blind the enemies would have been better i feel at this point.
Your recent videos inspired me to play Twisted Metal 2 and WOAH! I was not ready for how difficult it is. Can you recommend a more beginner friendly Twisted Metal? I don’t really feel like getting good amongst freeze missile and special spam.
TM2 is unrelenting, but it's also satisfying to get better and better at because of how overwhelming the AI can be. I think they should have done what TMB did and give you 3 deaths per lvl before you have to start over, would make it more balanced.
Try to practice jumps to create shortcuts to inaccessible parts of the map. Jump from the ramp in the pool opposite from the fountains to the rooftops before you destroy the Eiffel Tower. And yes, this game is about exploiting broken balance issues. Oh and try Rick-o-chey. Not Rico.
Can't wait for you to do Spectre, My favority Special Attack: Hold Machinegun ↑ ↓ ↑ ↑ Some tricky Attacks from Opponent: **That's all I know** Mr.Slam: fire Rico when you're behind. Axel: Homing Missile when front somehow it bounce you, can Spam Special when close. Hammerhead: Power Missile when front. Shadow: fire Power Missile when in front, Special Attack when behind. Warthog: land Mine when behind. Grasshopper: fire rear Freeze when behind. [using rear Attack code + Freeze attack code when you have no equiped weapon will makes you fire rear Freeze, also work for Napalm] (Roadkill; Mr.Slam; Hammerhead; Mr.Grimm; Sweetthoot): can spam Freeze while machinegun you down, you can't do Sh!t.
I just started playing the beta version for tm2 and let me tell ya, the AI are less aggressive (and the last one left will just run away from you) the turning is rly bad and certain attacks makes u do a forced barrel roll which can cause into fall thru the map
Maybe looking too far ahead here but once you playthrough all the PS1 Twisted Metal games are you planning on moving to other car combats like Vigilante 8 or (the closest thing to an alternate Twisted Metal) Rogue Trip?
I beat this game repeatedly when i was 8 and 9. I watch you play and instinct kicks in. Back up that hill and fire the napalm at a shaper angle! Use the lightning weapon after baiting people through thw transformers!
this is my fav of all tm titles, black a close 2nd for sure, but this was my opening title so im bias. twister is my fav fun car, slam and grim are my go to tho, but specter is really good on this one, his ghost missiles go through walls and are accurate this time. roadkill on this is meh, but axel makes high rise a cake walk, his special sends them flying off the roofs. also good on aztek lava w/e its called, sends them into the lava. for twister, gameplay i highly suggest only using her special inside of buildings, the more you lure into it the better, but be ready to mad dash for health pickups lol,, activate the shield tho to mitigate the damage she takes.
@@dessadoo yea she is rough, the low low armor and her special hurts herself haha, but powerful if you can get 3 in a small room, like on the lava temples, the highrise and some parts of paris. L corners work ok too.
you mentioned you're running the game at 60fps. gotta warn you that it might cause some bugs or issues when you play. especially for old games like these. it probably explains that the game doesn't read certain inputs as it's supposed to. you might want to give a try (i know it's not ideal but sometimes it can be gamebreaking)
Hopefully other characters are a more positive experience because watching you get angry and negative is not fun lol. Hopefully you enjoy other drivers more
Abusive? Yea the AI is so much more aggressive in this game. Especially fucking sweet tooth. Its not about being cheap, its about either being more aggressive or smarter than them. They are relentless. The AI cars still have unique AI per character still. You can see it incredibly apparrent with sweet tooth. Dear god, the psychopathic serial killer clown plays his personality well. Not surprised they didnt make him playable right away, hes vicious. He acts like a boss character with similr health.
5:50 Play the PC version. I never picked up on this as a kid because I only ever had the PS1 version to play. But once you play TM2 PC, you'll actually feel in control. Idk what's holding the game back on PS1, but everything is delayed. Driving, braking, special commands, etc.. everything. TM2 PC does not have this issue whatsoever. Even with the 60fps code, TM2 on PS1 is greatly inferior to its PC counterpart. Edit - For example, on PC I can get through this game with Grimm on 1 continue on Hard. Playstation 1? Maybe Stage 2 on Medium?
Some tips for future playthroughs as well; Pressing square & x together while turning does a quick turn. Very useful for getting out of claustrophobic situations. Also, O is your emergency break. There's actually quite a bit of strategic driving required to really nail this game down. Not to say it still isn't infuriating BS 😂
Kranky Kong says: "Git gud." Lol but seriously, I think your tactics in TM aren't worth much here. Just try to not get in too many head-on fights, smashing into everything you see. They're always "buddied up" because they're fighting. Let them kill each other while you snipe away two birds with one machine gun, or backshot dirtbags like Sweet Tooth who always chase players. Doesn't mean you'll win with 0 deaths, but your gameplay enjoyment should go up. WAY up. Still enjoying your content 😁
The voice actor for Calypso in TM2-TM4 absolutely nailed it, and the writings of the endings in this one are the best of the early series
Mel McMurrin is the GOAT

Axel is by far the best character in this game
iif i recall correctly to fire any weapon backwards you press right, left, down or left, right, down and shout out to outlaw, for best bait tact
Outlaw got me good 😂
You're gonna have an aneurysm when you have to play as hammerhead. Hammerhead is fucking atrocious in this game.
Look what they did to my boy Hammerhead 😣
2 player co-op is actually super fun. Despite being broken as hell.
Co-op would make this WAY easier 😅
@dessadoo You'd think so but it's still pretty freaking hard! I do like the game though, I hate to admit haha
My favorite car in the game but i will never understand why they gave him a boomerang in placement of missiles. Maybe to make him more unique? I dunno man, slinging roadkill off the front of your car to blind the enemies would have been better i feel at this point.
The boomerang is kind out of place, yeah. It’s not the weirdest thing in the game not by far 😅
TM2 is literally only game i failed to complete ever i gave up in Holland I still enjoyed the game though and had some nice memories in it..
I don’t blame you. TM2 is very unforgiving 😅
LET'S GO BABY
Gotta say, I don’t think I ever beat this game as a kid.
I don’t remember the second half of this game.
Couldn’t agree more!
Do not ram hammerhead. You are activating his special. He crushes you.
Don’t tell me how not to ruin my gaming experience 😂
@dessadoo haha, fair enough!
@dessadoo I loved the TM series. My favourite ps 1 and 2 games. I play crossout now, reminds me if TM, but you build your vehicles from the ground up
Try to practice jumps to create shortcuts to inaccessible parts of the map. Jump from the ramp in the pool opposite from the fountains to the rooftops before you destroy the Eiffel Tower. And yes, this game is about exploiting broken balance issues. Oh and try Rick-o-chey. Not Rico.
I’ll say Uncle Rico-Shay however I please
20 years and I've never noticed this before: Marcus's fingers are weird at the beginning of his victory cut scene... they look AI generated 😂😂😂
I replaced the original cutscenes with an AI-upscaled version, so that might be why.
i love this
Can't wait for you to do Spectre, My favority Special Attack: Hold Machinegun ↑ ↓ ↑ ↑
Some tricky Attacks from Opponent: **That's all I know**
Mr.Slam: fire Rico when you're behind.
[using rear Attack code + Freeze attack code when you have no equiped weapon will makes you fire rear Freeze, also work for Napalm]
(Roadkill; Mr.Slam; Hammerhead; Mr.Grimm; Sweetthoot): can spam Freeze while machinegun you down, you can't do Sh!t.
Great breakdown!
22:12 the reason why I avoid using Road Kill 😂🎉
I love this game but I always played it co op as a kid.
Have you ever tried Vigilante 8? I remember having a lot of fun with it years ago.
Yes! I haven’t played it much but I’ve heard only good things about
I just started playing the beta version for tm2 and let me tell ya, the AI are less aggressive (and the last one left will just run away from you) the turning is rly bad and certain attacks makes u do a forced barrel roll which can cause into fall thru the map
The beta might be fun to check out
@@dessadoo if ur using duckstation you can emulate to beta as well
I think saying this game is a giant shit post is valid i felt same way and still do
Maybe looking too far ahead here but once you playthrough all the PS1 Twisted Metal games are you planning on moving to other car combats like Vigilante 8 or (the closest thing to an alternate Twisted Metal) Rogue Trip?
I haven’t thought about that but it could be fun!
I beat this game repeatedly when i was 8 and 9. I watch you play and instinct kicks in. Back up that hill and fire the napalm at a shaper angle! Use the lightning weapon after baiting people through thw transformers!
I do fear that my gameplay is frustrating for experienced players to watch 😅
I don't think ill ever be able to take the guy holding to wheels together seriously. Even in a corny game like twisted metal
AXEL POWER
@dessadoo
*gets hit once*
*Dies*
Also the dude would have to be like, 12 feet tall to fit in scale
You should try Vigilante 8 after completing Twisted Metal!
That could be fun!
this is my fav of all tm titles, black a close 2nd for sure, but this was my opening title so im bias. twister is my fav fun car, slam and grim are my go to tho, but specter is really good on this one, his ghost missiles go through walls and are accurate this time. roadkill on this is meh, but axel makes high rise a cake walk, his special sends them flying off the roofs. also good on aztek lava w/e its called, sends them into the lava.
for twister, gameplay i highly suggest only using her special inside of buildings, the more you lure into it the better, but be ready to mad dash for health pickups lol,, activate the shield tho to mitigate the damage she takes.
Spoiler: Twister was a SLOG
@@dessadoo yea she is rough, the low low armor and her special hurts herself haha, but powerful if you can get 3 in a small room, like on the lava temples, the highrise and some parts of paris. L corners work ok too.
So.... is Charlie driving Darktooth from inside the truck or inside of the giant clown head?
I have no idea. I haven’t thought about that before! 😅
Do you plan to do all of the TM2 characters, including Sweet Tooth and Minion?
Yes! Although those characters are probably going to be last
Lol TM1 is older than you? Wild man
Yeah, it’s got me beat by a couple of years 😅
Is the music copyrighted or something? That's the greatest videogame soundtrack of all time.
Unfortunately, yes it is copyright.
Will you be doing minion and sweet tooth runs despite them being behind codes?
Yes I want to do this with every TM character, including the unlockable ones
I wonder if the secret healths work like they do in TM1 one every life ive never tried it in TM2
They do!
That's awesome to hear i only know where 4 of them are cant remember the rest @@dessadoo
If you get better at the game you should revisit roadkill at the end of tm2 playthrough as a litmus test
18:28 LMAO
Whooooooooo
you mentioned you're running the game at 60fps.
gotta warn you that it might cause some bugs or issues when you play. especially for old games like these.
it probably explains that the game doesn't read certain inputs as it's supposed to. you might want to give a try (i know it's not ideal but sometimes it can be gamebreaking)
Yeah, the higher framerate does mess with the shield duration and pickup spawn rate, but it actually helps make the input reading more responsive.
Also SELECT ➡️ will give rear view mirror. SELECT ⬇️ will put your weapons in list format making them easier to scroll through
Good luck with tm2
11:05 That was MK levels of reading your inputs cheap.
at 7:00 are you using the original ost or custom background music?
Hopefully other characters are a more positive experience because watching you get angry and negative is not fun lol. Hopefully you enjoy other drivers more
There are plenty of good characters in this game! Grimm and Axel especially!
I haven’t tried the PC version. That could be interesting.
Some tips for future playthroughs as well;
Pressing square & x together while turning does a quick turn. Very useful for getting out of claustrophobic situations.
Also, O is your emergency break.
There's actually quite a bit of strategic driving required to really nail this game down.
Not to say it still isn't infuriating BS 😂
Do you stream your runs? I wanna see someone rage through the entirety of TM2.
As of now, no. I just record them. 😅
@dessadoo Do it. I will even give you 5$ for it (Assuming your channek has it enabled).
@dessadoo Do it please!
:D
😃
Game is fine. You’re just not using your shield. Bruh your power bar is always like full 😂
😞
Any tips or advice you can give me for tm 2
Kranky Kong says: "Git gud."
Lol but seriously, I think your tactics in TM aren't worth much here.
32:00 watching you continue to try slamming into Mr. Slam just broke me a little :/ Redeemed yourself at 38:30 though!
They don't "kill eachother". They're programmed to only fight you.
