Great approach, need to focus on changes just using the top strings like you suggested at the end of the video. Think it could add a lot of consistency to my sound, definitely spend too much time starting runs in the lower register instead of making melodies and spelling out the changes with confidence. Sus chords kind of freak me out right now but I think I will conquer this given a lil more time.

Do you have your guitar tuned down use said g pentatonic but started on Ab

I’m using a G pentatonic and using shape 2. I started the scale on A because it’s the lowest note in the shape.

So you're playing in the key of a. Just changing scales to the dsus chord bouncing back from the gpentatonic and d major pentatonic. But the g is the relative minor of a

If I’m playing over a D7sus I think about the tonal center of G because the D7 is the dominant chord in G. If I want to make the sound of D7sus come out more then I focus more on the chord tones. In this case D and G major pentatonics also work. The D major pent won’t have the sus, but it can still be used. I’ll have you follow up on your last part. F# is the relative minor of A not G. Follow up on that part so I know what you’re asking. Hope this helps!

Right I was assuming you were in a minor. When you said that you think of the d7 as the dominant it threw me off . Cause the dominant d7 is g

When I play over a sus, I think Dorian - so for me I am thinking A Dorian over Dsus7 - of course this is modal thinking and has the same notes as e.g., G major, etc, BUT I find thinking Dorian creates a different mood than thinking G major or whatever - and that is the real key for me.

@@michaelgoodrich6958 I think that's because the starting point of the scale is diferent. Interesting aproach too. I do that too. When I hear/think D mixolydian over D7sus my ear wants to resolve to F#. When I think/hear in A Dorian or C Lydian it feels more natural for me to not resolve on the F#. I don't know why but that happens. LoL

Maybe I missed it would’ve helped if you said all the cords in the progression, when the suspended cord comes in, and then what you’re thinking. This is way too random

Big Toe I’m working with the chords to Maiden Voyage. I really just focus on the D7sus (I do mention this). Throughout I give some ideas I’m thinking about when playing over the chord.
