  • We try out a new book in our walk today: Top Walks in Mid Cornwall. See how we get on exploring the beautiful Vale of Lanherne near St Mawgan. St Mawgan is a pretty little village with a tangible community focused around the church, school and village pub - a country idyll but so close to Newquay airport!
The Vale of Lanherne is quiet and calming. The walk follows the river Menalhyl through pretty woodland and we explore an abandoned mill. In the second half of the walk, we catch glimpses of the sea and cross two fords before making our way back to the pretty little village of St Mawgan.
Disclosure: We were sent this book by the author, Liz Hurley, free of charge. The author will be updating the instructions.

I love the English countryside and there is not the faintest chance of me exploring more than a little of it myself, so thank you for giving me an opportunity to experience places so far from where I live.

As a a kid in the 70's I used to take a small churn of milk round to the Nuns after milking in the morning, and the exchange of churns happened in silence from behind a screen!
Saw several spots where we built dens in the hedges, fields where I remember helping with haymaking and playing.
    Really enjoyed your film, Thanks.

We are now in our mid eighties and not able to get about so much, but your videos bring back memories of our holidays, our favourite walk was from Mylor village to the Pandora for coffee on the pontoon. It would be wonderful to see you do that.Thank you for all the effort that it takes to make such beautiful pictures

I know the walk that you mean! We also love that walk - great for crabbing on the old quay! Undoubtedly, we will film this walk but after your comment, I think we will move it up the list. It should be relatively quiet during the summer months and maybe even 'tranquil'!?! Sarah :)

We go on holiday too Cornwall annually and the St Mawgan tea room is our favourite spot for cream teas. They do a sweet and savoury one and both are as divine as they look.

Great video! I grew up in St. Mawgan (actually, in Higher Tolcarne - you passed by my cottage), went to the little school in the Village. We used to attend church at the Convent. The Carmelites, sadly, have moved on, but the Convent is now run by the Sisters of St. Francis of the Sacred Heart. There’s a RUclips video about them - search for ‘St. Mawgan Convent. The route you took from Higher Tolcarne back to St. Mawgan was exactly the route my sister and I would take from our cottage (Lilac Cottage) to school. Thank you ever so much. Aaaah, childhood memories.....

That's a brilliant walk, thank you.
Pam (my late Wife) & I did that walk, & the pub, but we went by local bus.
Sometimes it's possible to use local transport so avoiding the return walking.
    Again, thank you.

Wow, what a fabulous walk; so tranquil and beautiful, and lanes almost free of traffic. The river scene at the end was wonderful. These are the parts of Cornwall we love. Well done to Andrew for getting the lines right, eventually; you must have so much fun filming! Thank you for another enjoyable video.

Cornwalls countryside at its very best. A part of Cornwall I have never been to and I loved the “stations of the cross” the last time I saw this was in Jerusalem. I agree with you about the cemetery......”spooky” and I din’t like the ‘skull and crossbones ‘ weird ehh? I think that it has sewn the seed in my mind that I would like to go to St Meagan and take a further look. To sum up an enjoyable video.

Free car park, like the sound of that! I love this time of year, so colourful, lush and vibrant and this was a great example of that. I also did not even know Newquay had an airport. The tearooms looked superb, what a perfect lunch spot. I must agree with the walk instructions as only a 7 out of 10 but the walk itself looked brilliant. I always enjoy a few bloopers 😂. Cheers Alan
