All very well if you have sand in the bunker. Where there is little sand or it is compacted what the hell does one do. By chopping down you are potentially going to shank it off to the right. Tried this a few times and I found it best to keep the club face slightly closed but then the ball can spin off to the left. Then I tried a putter! Seriously you have the option of playing it to the right or left and chip onto the green. Means you have a good chance of getting down in 3. Try and land it on the green at the first attempt can go horribly wrong. One you take more than one shot to get out. And two you could fly it off across the green and end up having to chip from a worse lie than you would if you play the percentage shot to begin with. That's golf. All about choices.

Yes, if you’re playing at Course consistently with no sand. You can get an extremely low bounce wedge with a sharp leading edge. That will help for you to get underneath the ball. When I travel and tournaments, I take bounce wedges with me so that I can handle the different conditions better.
