Routing I think is a solid front left pocket candidate. Love seeing what gets crammed into smaller and smaller form factors and more effecient machines.
Definitely front right pocket. I've been rockin' the Slate since it came out and have been impressed ever since. An updated model would be incredible! Thanks for another informative and entertaining video!
The Slate is great for when I’m on the road travelling for work. I’ve got mine setup as a WireGuard client to my home network. Which really does allow me to take my network on the road.
That Beryl Router would fit perfectly in my right cargo pants/shorts pocket. Realistically it would be a nice backup router if my home network blew up or for when Comcast goes down.
Great details. I recently got the Linkstar as well as 2 Slate (AX) which I’m using for my home routing and Office. They works great. The linkstar has just been booted with OpenWRT for playing with today and I appreciate the pointers. I have my eye on the Beryl AX as I might spring for 2.5G from my ISP - in the meantime, I would keep it in my right front pocket 😂
that would be nice to throw in my backpack pocket for when im at a clients site dealing with internet issues. it seems i always get a call and need internet to get my laptop online to help another client remotely with something else.
Hey Charlie, I hope you take good care of it. Email me at throwaway@raidowl.com and I'll get you hooked up with this Beryl AX. You have exactly 24 hours.
The LinkStar is perfect for a wired router setup. My Orbi has 2.5 GBPS WAN in but only 1 GBPS LAN ports out, putting the LinkStar in between as a DHCP server between my fiber line of 2 gigs down/up was perfect so my wired desktop can get take full advantage of the speed. Most routers I found were 1000+ or level 3 switches were 300-500, this little thing cost me $100
This router looks great. It would fit perfectly in the front left pouch pocket of my cargo shorts. Regular front left pocket is the keys. Right is the phone and right pouch is available space in case it it needed.
Router + adgaurd + private vpn is awesome. Wish beryl had docker for pihole too. Small footprint on this device will definitely go on my front left pocket. But from the looks of it, I won’t mind keeping it in front of my guests.
Front left pocket, because the right pocket is for the phone. I actually have the Beryl MT-1300 which I use as a travel router, but will seriously consider the upgrade to have wifi6 on the road.
Originally I was looking at the GL.iNet Beryl or the Slate Plus, but this Starlink seems promising apart from the mentioned wifi range, I’m curious how well does it perform within the same room? And do you think range could be improved by replacing the stock antennas with longer versions?
I used to use GLINET router (sized 2" by 2"), its was great on the road. but I store it for some times (around a year or so), it won't turn on again. lol. yeah I bought it for only $20 I think back then. RIght back pocket. Load balancing/failover are a great one. but sometimes the need of multiple port channel gigabit are great for redundancy.
Love the GL-inet travel routers! Had an AR750S that worked awesome - up til the point where I bricked it trying to upgrade to vanilla OpenWRT :( My one gripe with these routers is that in order to get the new UI, you pretty much have to get a new device - eg I bought a Beryl 1300 a couple years ago after the Slate went TU, and it has the same dated UI as the Slate. The new Beryl AX3000 has the horsepower needed to run the new UI (and run things like Adguard Hhome). I'd probably go left cargo pocket if'n a new Beryl were to come my way ;)
Great video on these mini routers. I would carry the Beryl router in my back left pocket. My keys and my moneyclip take the front pocket spaces. Thanks for the very informative videos.
Great video! Used your video Adguard to set up my instance and then my server died. Of course then the rest of my network died. So I’ve started my search for a mini router to separate my critical networking components and my server. As it turns out you e done all the homework for me. I’d keep the beryl in my left back pocket.
I think the 2nd wifi 6 router would fit nicely in my left pocket & I'd use it more at home, or on the go, tethered to my phone. The last 2 routers sound great, over the 1st router. I wouldn't mind trying the 1st router, if the wifi issues were fixed & it had more options as a small network device.
I know this is a old video but how safe is the link as a small back up pc straight out of the box? I get very worried about some of these low-cost devices.
I've actually been looking into getting something like these for a bit, but it'd probably end up in the right (front) pocket of my jacket that I wear most days. Otherwise, back right I typically keep open now
Front center pocket of my overalls. It's like my father always said, "a router over the heart, is better than a router you can't fit in your pocket, so you leave it on a shelf, collecting dust."
the linkstar without wifi is down to $80 making it an interesting alternative to the RPi for fast networking container use cases. Not too much off the top of my head beyond pihole and monitoring/logging but home experimenters always come up with interesting projects.
ive got a lowspec glinet the last year, the software got internet disconection problems when is repeating a wifi, is frustraiting, besides that is a great one, im looking for a 2.5G now
A new beryl would go in the home lab pocket of my backpack, with the raspy pi 8GB and a power bank. if I had to carry it in a pant pocket it would be the left pocket.
I love your video’s they have helped me out so much. It helped me get started with my own home lab. And learn or at least get started with things. But to answer your question if I had jeans on I would put the router on my front right pocket but I have and love my cargo shorts and if I was wearing those I would put it in the right side bottom pocket 😂
Biggest issue with routers is that they become obsolete in a few years and you never get their full speed due to the ISPs bottlenecking the connection to the internet.
Brett - in regards to the 'poor' wifi on the nextstar, it shows in your configuration you only had the wireless at 3dbm, that is next to no wifi power. Could you change the power settings to something that a normal AP would have, say 20dbm?
I'd go back left pocket. Also, I'd love to configure one of these for the kids in the car. Ideally with no internet but serving out Plex media or similar to their tablets.
My work uniform britches have an empty right leg pocket that would work nicely. Who knew a WiFi router comparison video could also be an everyday carry video.
but seriously when I was looking for a cheap 'travel router' I went the TP-Link AC750 for AUD$44 (prob US$35), doesn't have a lot of the features you discussed but works. A month or two later and it is now plugged in to my UDM Pro as a secondary link via my mobile phone to provide a backup internet connection. Cheap!
Routing I think is a solid front left pocket candidate. Love seeing what gets crammed into smaller and smaller form factors and more effecient machines.
Yeah front left does sound pretty solid
A new Beryl router would certainly end up in my front left pocket. A surprisingly complete looking kit, especially at the price point.
I’m a front right pocket. Thanks for sharing your views on these mini routers!
Great review ! The Beryl AX may be the perfect travel router, really hope it fits my left front pocket!
Which really does allow me to take my network on the road.
thanks for sharing like and sbuscribe
That Beryl Router would fit perfectly in my right cargo pants/shorts pocket. Realistically it would be a nice backup router if my home network blew up or for when Comcast goes down.
Definitely in a fanny-pack! On a cruise ship, run the Beryl off a small battery and then you can bypass all "single device" restrictions.

The linkstar has just been booted with OpenWRT for playing with today and I appreciate the pointers. Left front in jeans, left for cargo shorts and left nut in raidowl speedos. Good informative vid. Gracias.
Thank for the info, I will carry mine in my front right pocket, but no cargo shorts.
Hey Charlie, I hope you take good care of it. Email me at throwaway@raidowl.com and I'll get you hooked up with this Beryl AX. You have exactly 24 hours.

i wear a black cargo vest, much easier than a back pack, so extra batteries in one pocket and cell/router in the other.
Back left pocket. Wallet (CC holder) and phone are in front.
Back pocket! Left cheek! Left cheek! Left cheek!
Great idea for traveling to keep you devices behind you own firewall, adblocker etc...
deserves prime location in front left pocket
Back right pocket.
Car keys occupy front right and card holder in the front left lol.
Great information, even a year on. Wondering if the linkstar has resolved any of the issues you mentioned.
I'd wear the Beryl on my belt so I could make Dad jokes about having a cool Berylt Buckle.
Router + adgaurd + private vpn is awesome. Wish beryl had docker for pihole too. Small footprint on this device will definitely go on my front left pocket. But from the looks of it, I won’t mind keeping it in front of my guests.
Definitely keeping it in the rear middle pocket on my running shorts
On the Beryl can you use the wan 2,5g port as lan port?
Nice breakdown thanks. I have both of the glinet devices use older one as a udm se pro backup internet via SIM card. Other as a travel router
Front left pocket, because the right pocket is for the phone.
I actually have the Beryl MT-1300 which I use as a travel router, but will seriously consider the upgrade to have wifi6 on the road.
WIFI6 is a niceeee upgrade
Originally I was looking at the GL.iNet Beryl or the Slate Plus, but this Starlink seems promising apart from the mentioned wifi range, I’m curious how well does it perform within the same room? And do you think range could be improved by replacing the stock antennas with longer versions?
Back Left all the way! Front right is Phone, Front left is keys, Back right is wallet, back left is perfect for this bad boy!
Definitely cargo pants -- put it in the quad pocket
Sheeeeeeeeesh 💯
I used to use GLINET router (sized 2" by 2"), its was great on the road. but I store it for some times (around a year or so), it won't turn on again. lol. yeah I bought it for only $20 I think back then.

Load balancing/failover are a great one. but sometimes the need of multiple port channel gigabit are great for redundancy.
Front pocket of my hoodie of course.
Thanks for the opportunity
Love the GL-inet travel routers! Had an AR750S that worked awesome - up til the point where I bricked it trying to upgrade to vanilla OpenWRT :(

Docker on a travel router sounds nice.
Front pocket for sure, don't want to break it sitting on it.
ya same chris let's get a cofee sometime
Cargo pants - Right side pocket. I am not an animal. LOL
Def back right pocket. Seems like a beast of a portable Wi-Fi device.
My dad was definitely a cargo pocket kind of guy, but I wanna see if it fits in the pocket watch pocket on my jeans. 🤣🤣 Great video.
Hello! Can you use the Beryl AX as a Brume 2? What are the differences?
The Beryl would DEFINITELY go in the cargo pocket on the right leg.
I'm a cargo pants guy so it'll fit nicely in the left front pocket. :) Love those tiny routers!
Hey is that ruoter in your pocket or are you just hpapy to see me...hehehehe. Thanks for watching friend.
@@RaidOwl LOL! :)
Back left! I hate having things in my front pockets. Great video as always!
Great video on these mini routers. I would carry the Beryl router in my back left pocket. My keys and my moneyclip take the front pocket spaces. Thanks for the very informative videos.
Nice juggling! Also my pockets are pretty full. I think I'd get a fanny pack to put it in.
The new Beryl routerwill live in my right front pocket. Especially in this price range, it's a nify little piece of kit.
Isn't Untangle using OpenWRT now?
For their edge router.
Great video! Used your video Adguard to set up my instance and then my server died. Of course then the rest of my network died. Front-right pocket is for phones, that'd go in the front-left
Back left for sure. Battery pack goes in front left.
I know this is a old video but how safe is the link as a small back up pc straight out of the box? I get very worried about some of these low-cost devices.
Does any of this router support any bufferbloat counter measure like cake or so? If they do; how much speed should I expect?
I've actually been looking into getting something like these for a bit, but it'd probably end up in the right (front) pocket of my jacket that I wear most days. Otherwise, back right I typically keep open now
This is definitely a back right kind of router. You can tell by how wavy the WiFi is.
Back pocket. I would hang the antennas out for better coverage.
These are perfect for a car with an android car audio.
I’d carry it in my sock. It will match the ankle bracelet on the other foot my PO makes me wear. Awesome video as always!
I'd carry the Beryl in my right front pocket!
Plenty of room for a few Beryls in the cargo pockets
Front center pocket of my overalls.
It's like my father always said, "a router over the heart, is better than a router you can't fit in your pocket, so you leave it on a shelf, collecting dust."
Oh yeah my dad said the same thing!
I think it would go in the front pocket of my bag, just to share files when out with friends
But doesn't WiFi improve if you buy the Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32C3 - RISC-V tiny MCU board with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth5.0 for the LinkStar?
the linkstar without wifi is down to $80 making it an interesting alternative to the RPi for fast networking container use cases. Not too much off the top of my head beyond pihole and monitoring/logging but home experimenters always come up with interesting projects.
I love the Slate! I use it with easytether on my cell and carry internet with me everywhere I go.
\ anathony u must be strong bc carrying the internet would be heav ylol... take care brother thanks for the love
ive got a lowspec glinet the last year, the software got internet disconection problems when is repeating a wifi, is frustraiting, besides that is a great one, im looking for a 2.5G now
A new beryl would go in the home lab pocket of my backpack, with the raspy pi 8GB and a power bank. if I had to carry it in a pant pocket it would be the left pocket.
How does the cooling go ? Isn't a bigger router better cooled ?
These are such low power chips that they can be passively cooled
Would love to use this router when traveling on vacation to securely get back to my network at home.
I probably wouldn't use Android on a router, but I think being able to install a distribution of Linux on it is pretty cool.
Also, front-left pocket.

Front left cargo pocket of course!
I would carry the Beryl in front right pocket of my parachute pants
Been looking for a good portable router to carry in my cargo pockets. They would be great running off power bank while hiking and other activities!!!
Brett - in regards to the 'poor' wifi on the nextstar, it shows in your configuration you only had the wireless at 3dbm, that is next to no wifi power. Could you change the power settings to something that a normal AP would have, say 20dbm?
Yeah I cranked this before when I was testing it weeks ago and the performance was still very bad. Like trickling at 10-15mbps from like 20 ft away.
@@RaidOwl ahh ok thx!
I would carry it in the back left pocket! haha Love your channel by the way hope to get mine as good as yours one day!
I'd go back left pocket.
Also, I'd love to configure one of these for the kids in the car. Ideally with no internet but serving out Plex media or similar to their tablets.
That’s a pretty good idea
Without question, it goes in the front left pocket.
"Is that a router in your pants or are you just happy to see me"
I would put it in my inner thigh pocket for sure.
Kinky
I’d actually carry I’m my shirt pocket! 😂
I always wear cargo shorts so this would go in my front right pocket.
I have a satchel it would go great in. If it is good enough for Indiana Jones and Zach Galifanakis in Hangover, it's good enough for me.
Back right, and cargo shorts are a given!
You can just carry SO MUCH STUFF
My work uniform britches have an empty right leg pocket that would work nicely. Who knew a WiFi router comparison video could also be an everyday carry video.
maybe a 5 point hat with bells when you do the juggling .... juggling was good!
but seriously when I was looking for a cheap 'travel router' I went the TP-Link AC750 for AUD$44 (prob US$35), doesn't have a lot of the features you discussed but works. A month or two later and it is now plugged in to my UDM Pro as a secondary link via my mobile phone to provide a backup internet connection. Cheap!
Pocket??? I'd carry in my gadget bag...carry case for my electronics.
What are your thoughts on the reRouter from Seeed Studios in respect to this category?
Seems cool but way too expensive compared to other options.
Honestly, I would probably keep it in my coat pocket, because I like coats.
I think that beryl AX is based on a new mediatek WiSoC, Quite neat theyre out now!
Was looking at some travel router reviews and ran across this video. Love to win that Beryl AX for my road trips!
I think vest pocket is ideal. Great video!
Oh shit thats classy
I would put it in my left side pocket. Cargo pants are the best.
I guess now you have to add the new Unify Express to the mix
Any practical alternatives of the LinkStar? the concept is intriguing.
Cargo shorts and Cargo pants type of guy.
I am going to be the rebel and say left shoulder pocket. Bike jackets are fun :)
I actually like the Link Star but as you said, for other than router purposes. I would carry they Beryl in my left cargo pants pocket. lol
Probably need cargo pants for other tech stuff if I were considering bringing this.
I think you've convinced me to get one so if I win I guess it'll have to go in the back left.
I’ll keep it in my front right pocket. This would be a cool bring to a party a LAN party Lol
if i had pockets (thanks women’s clothes) it’d be a front left pocket. it’s genuinely amazing how small yet powerful routers can get
I understand now why women are always impressed with pockets lol
A man can only dream to carry such a beauty in their back pocket 😍
