The fact that you can swap out the strap at all is something that people seem to take for granted. With something like the Quest Pro or the Pico 4, the only way to see if it’s even viable is to buy one.
Being able to easily replace the strap out for something better, like these ones, is definitely a huge bonus. Let's hope they also do this for the Quest 3 when it comes out! 🤞
@@MyTechGearGaming from what I’ve heard, the arms will be the same dimensions, but the charging port will be on the pivot point, so any straps that charged the quest 2 will block the port
I’ve only had VR for a couple of weeks and already wanted to get a new head strap, so the original one that comes with the VR gave me headaches and a pressure feeling on my forehead from the lack of support, I could only play for 15-20 minutes, plus I would get terrible motion sickness which I suffer with really bad in general. I’ve just got the kiwi design thanks to this video, and I’ve just played for 40 minutes and I feel fine!!! No pain and no headache, motion sickness was starting to come on but that’s in double the time it usually takes! It’s really comfortable to wear, I actually found that my vision in the VR was better because it was sitting on my face better, so less blurring than I had before, I'm so happy with this head-strap, it’s worth every penny! Thanks again for your help!
I'm looking for maximum comfort, and I want to get that weight off my face because it's giving me headaches. At first it sounded like the Bobo halo style was the way to go because you said "it gets the weight off your face" and puts the weight across the top if your head, but then you said one drawback was that it makes the front heavy? I was confused by that. I wear glasses with my headset unfortunately, so the weight pushes down on the nose pieces and is really uncomfortable as well. I'd love to hear your suggestions. Thanks for a great video!
Hi Josh. There’s no perfect solution and so it’s a matter of finding what’s best for you. Halo straps do weigh more than their clamshell counterpart but because the weight is distributed across your forehead you notice it less. Everyone is different as to what suits them but sounds like the Bobo one might be the way to go for you as you can adjust the headset further from your face if you need to ( although that will let in more light - it’s a trade off). You might want to think about using a glasses spacer with your facial interface as well as that will give your glasses more room and help prevent the pressure on them. Hope that all helps! 😊
You might want to check out some battery head straps too as they help provide a bit of counterbalance to the front. I did a video comparing some so I definitely recommend giving that a view.
I hated the original Q2 head strap so much! Couldn't get it right to fit my shape, the little plastic parts for adjusting the head strap were painful and so on... So i bought the BOBOVR M2 Plus and HOLY SHIZ!! I mainly play flight sims in PCVR for longer periods of time and with the original head strap it was almost impossible to enjoy flying for more than 1 hour. (It kinda made me regret switching from IR headtracking).
wonder when I can buy a quest 3 strap :) I have a quest one and I use the original straps and my cheeks always hurt and look so raw after using it xD could also be because I have to put it on so tight so it stays on. I notice that if the quest 1 goes moves slgihtly the pictue goes blurry :(
i have a question (i know that i am writing this a year after it was posted) my bobovr m2 headrtap just broke and i am looking to get a new one i want to get the kiwi design one but i dont know if it is good for longer periods of gaming,i want to play fast action games for a long period and i need it to be comfortable aswell. Which one should i get? (pls respond)
I’ve reviewed the kiwi design head strap in this video, and also other videos too. It’s a strap that I found comfortable to wear. Your facial interface will also be a big factor on comfort too.
Why all the straps havent something like headphones installed? How is the sound with these straps? I use the normal elite strap with silicone muffs on it to hear much louder.
Some brands do release headphone included versions of these headstraps ( such as kiwi design ) and others do sell audio add-ons for headstraps ( such as bobovr ). I’ve reviewed a few of them on this channel already.
Before seeing this, I used to use a respirator mask to hold it up just cause the thing was so front heavy. Although looking at these tempts me to just make my own with some foam and plastic.
you might want to look at some of the battery head straps too as the weight of the battery acts as a counterweight on the head straps and makes them less front heavy.
Thanks for this strap comparison, very informative. I have a question. I tried a demo of the Pico 4 today in a shop and I found the headstrap was very comfortable. It has a wheel at the back like on your aftermarket straps and I was told that because of the battery at the back it balances the weight better. I'm thinking of buying the Quest3 next month. Assuming we'll be able to buy these or similar straps for the Quest3 I'm wondering if you'd be able to say which of the straps you demo'ed would most likely feel as good and balanced as the one on the Pico 4? The Kiwi Design strap seems really good, perhaps that's the closest in comfort? Thanks.
The quest 2 head straps are not going to be compatible with the quest 3 so we’re going to have to wait and see what head straps companies release for the quest 3.
Great video; but I’m still not sure what to get. I use my headset to work out and currently have the elite strap with extra battery in it, but the pain in my lower neck and head is INSANE. I’ve got weak neck muscles I guess. I need weight in the BACK of the headset to counter balance, but it seems like every headset out there has the weight in the front no matter what? That doesn’t seem right. Am I just missing something? Did you notice if any of these significantly reduced weight on the lower neck over the other?
You could look at a battery head strap as that adds extra weight on the back of the head strap that helps to offset the weight of the head set. I did a video on those that might be worth you checking out.
Yes. They did a version with a battery pack. I did another video that compared a number of battery head straps, including the kiwi design one, that I’d recommend checking out first.
I bought the quest 2 but ive actively had to avoid it because after less than half an hour i would get a headache and neck pain and it was blatantly upleasant this video helped me make a decision on a new strap to buy
How does it move when you look up? If it’s strapped to your head it shouldn’t move at all. How does the head strap hurt your neck? It’s strapped to your head, not your neck, so curious has to how that is.
The thing that cradles the back of my head and maybe because it's too big but when I move my head up and down the back cushion thing hits my neck which makes it move, and I have to keep readjusting it. So because of that I try not to move my neck up or down at all, which after a period of time makes my neck really hurt.
You must have a particularly small head as for most people that really isn’t an issue. You might want to try a halo headstrap like the bobovr m2 plus one and see if that works better for you as it’s a different style of headstrap.
I came to find something more comfortable than the bobovr and left disappointed to find out that it's the comfort king. It always applies two painful pressure points on the top of the head
If you don’t like halo style head straps then you might be better off trying a clamshell style head strap instead like some of the others on this video.
I'll be unkind to quest and say the default head strap is pure garbage. My face hurt from how much the headset dug into it, with that thing being so front heavy. Adjustment is also a pain, and cloth makes it impossible to keep clean since I was mostly playing beat saber. I've had the kiwi strap for about a year and I can say with confidence that it's a solid purchase. I can wear the headset for hours and only come out with a slight indent. I'm not a fan of how it leaves my hair all flat afterwards, but that's a personal problem and also the reason I'm here to check out the bobovr strap. Thank you for the review sir
Glad you enjoyed the video. If you're moving your head around alot, like in fitness games and gtag, then I'd generally recommend a clamshell over a halo style headstrap as they tend to stay in place a bit better. Make sure you've got a good ventilated facial interface too though. It's very much personal preference though as some people prefer halo over clamshell.
Well, it fits a lot better than SUPERUS strap I previously bought. The Kiwi design one actually fits my head properly so I don't sweat as much. I still end up sweating though. :p But it's more bearable. I'm going to try an ice pack while using VR... well, I'll be careful, don't want to hurt myself by using it too long. 😂
