The third method of avoiding hostile leviathans is quite effective too: never go to the dunes.
That's a good one too. I actually never went there in my original playthrough but the sound bubble was very usefull when it comes to the lost river and lava zone as well.
How else will I get my silver
@@user-qb7bs7cy1m go to the bottom of the mountain biome (400m down to the left of the Gun Island) youll find like 20+ silver and uraninite nodes.
@@user-qb7bs7cy1m that's a fair point as the dunes are full of it. When i actually needed to stock up i packed my prawn and went there with my cyclops in my second playthrough
And the fourth one, hunt them.
"He clipped into the floor" truly a subnautica moment, by far the biggest scare I ever got in this game was being in the enforcement island caves, and a reaper showed up through the walls, now that truly made me shit myself
I once had its tail swipe through the enforcement platform and yeet me down 2 floors. That guy owes me a med kit
I had it happen in the dunes cache
I once thought that Silent Running makes you 100% undetectable. I got cocky and deliberately bumped a Reaper. I then spent hours retrieving all my resources and makings from the sub wreck now laying on the seabed
Oof, that must've been a bummer!
Similar happened to me, but to be honest, I ended up building a base where my destroyed Cyclops was and got to explore the area more intensely.
I approached the sea emperor in my cyclops and apparently his fire breath can shoot right through the hull of the cyclops and break your stuff. Lost like a dozen storage containers full of stuff.
@@trucid2 so THATS what happened to my locker!!!
OOOOOOOOOOOOOFFFF
Ah yes... The Seamoth. Jump into the Seamoth to go outside and fix the hull... Right next to the dive hatch. The Seamoth, which makes noise as well and attracts the Reaper. This is a plan without downsides and- OH GOD IT'S GRABBED THE SEAMOTH AND IT'S SHAKING IT LIKE A CHEW TOY! DOWN! DOWN FIDO! BAD REAPER! NO PEEPER FOR YOU!
That's also kind of what I do when I don't have the defence system for my seamoth. In this case i fid have it, so if mr reaper would come for a hug i could electrocute him to get him off of me.
I love my seamoth also. I've yet to use the prawn suit very much in my playthrus. I've found the best way to deal with reapers etc is to go out intentionally to kill them. Like side quests. I've found that in areas I've "cleared" of predator Leviathans (not the void obv) that they remain dead. They are finite 🤷. Best defence is a to have a good offence 😁 use the seamoth shock that you get from a docked seamoth ⚡!
@@Canderous__Ord0Gaming i get the Idea and it's a good strat, but i hate killing ghe creatures as they're so cool and easily avoidable
@@Canderous__Ord0GamingSounds good ✅...
but how do you mean 'docked' Seamoth?..
.. don't you have to be out of ship and fighting it ?
@@alfrede.newman6626 I think they mean the seamoth dock in Aurora because it has the shock module.
I didnt knew about that sound bubble, that could have helped me out more than once!
Regarding the engine efficiency module, I feel like I always find one before I even build the Cyclops.. I don’t remember where though. Maybe inside the Aurora.
Thats correct!
Yeah it's in the drive core room, practically straight ahead from where you enter. Pretty hard to miss!
Me going into this video: "hah stupid clickbait title! I know all the tricks"
Me when the sound bubble was shown: "... Oh. Well damn"
I didn't know any of these things for a long time either. Especially the insane power save when running low speed.
I actually didn’t know a lot of this, and I’ve played for 200+ hours lol. I love how polite you were to mr. Reaper😂
Actually he was also polite to me... For some reason. Ckeck the other vid on my channel to see what i encountered when recording this video😂

Thank you for the sound bubble info! I had no idea!
One way to get much more power in your cyclops is to replace the standard powercells by ion powercells. Although, by the time you get enough ion cubes to craft six powercells for your cyclops, you are probably deep enough in the late game that you don't really need them anymore. So it's really just a solution for when you have done everything but escaping the planet and just want to mess around.
Exactly. My cyclops has it as well, but like you said, it's late game only. By that time i can just park it next to a thermal vent to charge it as well.
Knowing that you cannot get attacked while the engine is off makes me feel a lot better about driving it around.
My friend, you just opened a world of possibilities for my hardcore run. I can finally get out of the safe shallows !
You're welcome! Oh and good luck!
Thanks appreciate it. Had no idea there was a sound bubble and I have been played since Beta haha
I've heard that the Leviathan didn't attack when the engine was turned off, but I didn't believe it. Now, seeing the physical sound bubble and how the cyclops interacts with the Leviathan, this made me a LOT less scared of the leviathans. Does this work with the Seadragon and the ghost Leviathan too?
Yes it works on anything that can damage the cyclops. Like, stalkers don't show up on there because they literally can't aggro on the thing.
OMG I'm acually gonna be able to use is without losing it!!!
Stasis Rifle has entered the chat:
@@Just_a_Piano_ alien rifle mod has entered the chat
Wow this was great! I had no idea turning the engine off was this effective
You could have also said that the fastest engine mode, after running it for 20 seconds will make your engine caught fire. A lot of players dont know that and just pump flank mode everytime and then are surprised their cyclops is burning.
@@DavidVloch hmm. That might be a good one for another video!
If you ram a hostile leviathan, that will also make it go away. Yknow, because you just hit it with a cyclops.
Thanks for that. Good info delivered concisely. A lot of 'RUclipsrs' think that they get paid by the word so ramble on for ages. I'm off to your chanel now to see what other gems you have to offer. 👍🏼😁
Thank you! That means a lot! Im affraid there is not that much to offer right now, since i took a big recording break😅 though i have videos planned for finding every fragment in the game with multiple locations since spawns are random
@@variacraft8237 Are spawns of fragments really random? Because I seem to find them in the same spots on every playthrough I've done. Case in point, during my most recent playthrough yesterday, I needed the Drill Arm for the Prawn Suit and went to the usual location I tend to find them, in and around the wreck in the entrance to the South West Blood Kelp forest. And low-and-behold, there they were...again.
@@Perry_Wolf while their exact location is in fact random, they do always spawn in the same or wreck, just not "underneath that exact same rock"
Thank you, it's very clear and more informative than the official wiki !
Thx bro i played the game for 2 years and i didnt even know there was a sound bubble😅
No problem! Thats why i made the video. I kile giving tips i feel like are uncommon for people
The sound bubble is a rough estimate of the sound coming out from the cyclops so sometimes the leviathan will attack from outside of it.
@@notgamer911 that can actually be seen in the video yes. To be safe, just shut down your engine as soon as the dot appears on the radar
how to escape anything except ur mother with dads belt: deploy decoy full speed until engine heating after like 5 sec after deploying first decoy deploy the second decoy (fabricator to make module next to engine left) then drive to safety (check cams if safe if not deploy another and zoom outta there) if u dont have decoys just exit the cyclops stand on top of it until he goes away (note: he can see u so just stay away) if ur not inside ur cyclops he will NOT ATTACK IT
You can actually turn the engine off as that will prevent any attacks as well. Decoys can indeed work really well if you actually get something after you and you have to move. If you're actually fine where u are i think it's better to tank the hit or shield it off
@@variacraft8237 i know that but that way is better if you want to get away from the area
This video was very well made. Thank you! I learned a lot about the cyclops thanks to you!
how do you not get the efficiency module before cyclops.
just go to the aurora and grap it
I’ve seen people put off aurora for ages and go into the LR and such first it’s not unheard of
You stealth Reapers? My Cyclops’ name is Hunter, and I use my Sonar every so often to ping Reapers. You can also drive backwards to grind them up with your turbine if you are too lazy to get out and kill them yourself.
I also rarely go normal speed unless I’m returning to base or traveling an explored route to a hunting ground. There’s always so much to see, tight ass caves to navigate, and goodies to find, going fast never seemed like a good idea. I only realized later I was so efficient because I did that.
You also don’t need to hide from your enemies when you can just kill them. Remember, you’re the Human. All them fish are just food to you, the Apex Predator. If they are stupid enough to be in your way or suicidal enough to attack, remind them who owns this planet now.
@@Captain_Rex14 actually, I hate killing the leviathans because they just look so insanely cool.
@@variacraft8237 Sharks are cool too, until they try to eat you. There is nothing wrong with building an observatory in their territory to view them, but if I’m hunting in the same area as a Reaper, and Hunter picks it up on sonar, there’s a 90% chance I’m taking it out before it has a chance to attack me, especially if I plan on staying in the area for long.
Kill your enemies when you’re ready, before they kill you when you’re not.
@@Captain_Rex14 i get your point. But I'm the person that just tried to always be ready. Personally
I could literally run away from a sea dragon the cyclops is goated
Thanks dude, this was an incredibly useful visual demonstration. I've been hoarding resources in my shallow base for 85 hours and it's time to actaully go venture out and play this game for real.
Can you make a cyclops interior guide? Yours looks beautiful
Thanks for the compliment! Though have seen many people who already made a guide to that and i think its more of a preference thing rather than a single way to do it.
What if the reaper does damage and you have to repair. Is it possible if you put the shield on you could swim out and repair without the reaper being able to hit you?
The shield is probably cyclops specific. And even if it worked the power drain is still disgusting. Its better shut the engine down and wait for mr reaper to leave so you can repair right after. There is no need to hurry when it comes to reparing 1 hole as the small leak wont fill up the cyclops at all thanks to the draining system
interesting video. Good job!
Oh Yeah! bud!..good stuff !!👍😆👍😎👍
One rule if your see glide or any tool is low charge the battery in the cyclops it will if its completly draind take 1/12 of you energy and 1/60 if you have full ion cells so always keep also a extra pair of batterys in case you wanna run the shild long
@@feuerflamme1202 yes I also charge my batteries in the cyclops cuz the power cost is indeed quite affordable.
@@variacraft8237 i need often the shild becuse bruh i CANT reach the off Button and it drains so much battery like in 2 secs like 50 power and i use the normal ones gives just 8 secs? Thats just 48 sec of battery time wile using that not much 40 secs for an ion cell its nothing 240 secs nothing like 4 mins so wee need bigger cells 🙃
8:13. So… two things. 1. Yes, the cyclops shield generator does take up A LOT of power (that’s why I try to avoid using it). 2: If you have the cyclops thermal generator module. Simply park it over a thermal vent and watch your cyclops power RISE. (Or, you know, just use a pop up base. The choice is yours).
Pop up bases are definitely a life saver, yes. Though especially small hits from ampeels and crabsquid might be worth tanking one as it will regen by itself and not need any manual repairs
Thanks man rlly needed some guides on the cyclops u helped alot🙏🙏
I know he said no mods, but if you are able to mod then theres's mods like more cyclops upgrades that allow you to add a whole new 6 slots to your upgrade consle, and another 6 slots, and another 6 slots you get the point so you can have tons of efficiency if you can mod, but it requires tons of materials edit: also your saying i can just turn off my cyclops engine and then a ghost will stop attacking me
Useful video was useful. Thank you!
Thx for the tips really use full I'm hoping to go to the lost river
3:27 be aware where you swim my buddy
Great info
does this work on ghost leviathans? I dont have a clue as to how to traverse the lost river without getting attacked
Yes, all the things in this video works for every threat in the game. Watch your sound bubble, go silent running and shut the engine off when he gets too close or if you get hit.
how do i avoid crab squids in the cyclops?
I personally like to just stay far away from them or use silent running when i need to get close.
They are attracted to light. Turn off all lights, run sonar, but only for the time to get by them.
Swim out you're RIGHT BY the damage
Does this mean that if I stand still on the lost river the ghost will simply ignore my existence?
@@ArthurBrPro If you turn your cyclops engine off the ghost leviathan will not aggro on you, yes.
i burn my battery to save time :D
Yo thanks, i never knew about these stuff but does the cyclops shield protect only the front of the whole submarine?
All around it, full invulnerability. Though keep in mind it drains a lot of power.
@@variacraft8237 Oh alright thanks man 👍 And yes it does drain a lot of power so yeah i dont use it that often but still good to know
Make a video about the inside of your cyclops bro I want to get ideas from you.
Glad to hear you like my desighn! Actually my most recent video has a full tour around my cyclops, so feel free to check out the channel😁 it's called cyclops odyssey and the tour can be found using the video chapters
I normally use two creature decoys and full speed to get away it’s safer and uses less power.
It's quite practical indeed especially compared to the shield. Just taking a hit can also work really well though, as you are not limited to the amount of decoys and fixing it is quite easy
What players dont knows
1. Bubble makes sense
2. Shield generator is an actualy game changer
It really is for busting through a threat if you need to get past!
How did you guys not know? You thought silent running and slow modes had no purpose what so ever?
@@John-du2mq my idea was to showcase the sound bubble that visualizes the effects of those things so you can see how close you can actually get to a threat without danger.
For food and water plant a garden in your cyclops!
Yea, that's a great one to do as well! I even have it some additional plants for decoration.
Well done!
SUPERRRR HELPFUL 🗿🍷
who even needs decoy tubes
I actually agree with that especially if you have the shield generator as well. I have never used a single decoy in my entire career lol. But of course everyone can use whatever they prefer.
@@variacraft8237 I once watched a blind playthrough where someone hand deployed a creature decoy. Knowing how the creature AI works this is kinda funny.
Even if the creature decoy worked tbh I wouldn't have room for the upgrades between depth, shield, thermal charge efficiency fire suppression and sonar.
@@JadeIsBunny yea. I also don't have any of the upgrade though i do have 1 decoy in the launcher since... Forever 😅
Or grind for 20 decoys and finish the game with decoys.
@@rPenek that's actually a decent plan as well. It's nice that they're are multiple ways to play the game.
Use ion Batteries
That really helps out a lot!
They come in so late in the game, they're hardly worth it except in your Seamoth, Prawnsuit, and Seaglide for running around for resources to escape the planet. By the time you get them, you likely have an extra set of powercells and the thermal charger for the Cyclops and they almost become moot. Really wish they would've introduced them, and a good source for Ion Cubes, right at the Alien Research Facility already.
Another option is.........rrrrrraaaaaammmmmiiiiiiiinnnnnnggggggg ssssssssppppppeeeeedddddddd!!!!! Many animals in subnautica have the skin of a jelly fish so slamming into something hard enough will cause considerable damage.
Never actually tried that, though i do know the cyclops will take dmg from ramming as well, even though its shield health will absorb the first few hits.
@@variacraft8237 I have used it many times and its amazing how effective it can be. In a way you may have already done it but not realized it. The smaller fish when you hit them die pretty quickly. Even much larger fish are quite vulnerable if something hits them with repeat attack. The sea moth if you upgrade the armor enough can be used like a canon ball to smash into everything that is a threat. The trick to ramming leviathans is getting in the hit box but not close enough to where they trigger the mouth attack. Similar to attacking with the prawn suit. You can also slam into them from behind. I use a similar strategy with the sea truck in below zero to take out anything that is an annoyance to me. Hit the gas hard and slam into it like train with a cow in the way. Typically the damage is not that bad and even leviathans will run away from you pretty quick if you hit them hard enough.
that's actually quite interesting except for one thing. I don't hurt creatures in subnautica cuz they're just too beautiful. But yes i have in fact killed a load of small fish this way including one in this video. I also murdered a bone shark who decided it was a good idea to swim up as soon as i went down so i couldn't avoid him😂

@@MikeHurst-ok1ff wel, than you probably did a good amount of research on the mechanics. Good job!
why is your power not going down?
@@LEGENDARYARSENAL Ohh sharply spotted! The power does in fact go down but some of the recorded clips were not actually recorded in the same order as the order you see them in. Ion batteries also help a lot when it comes to the shield generator usage part.
@@variacraft8237 One more thing. I found all 9 lifepods. Found lots of metal parts etc. the radio light has not come on in a long time. I searched the island and the tall alien structure. am I basically done with the game? if so, below zero here I come. thx
@@LEGENDARYARSENAL I have good news for you: the games is definitely not over! The simple tip is to go deeper, but maybe try going deeper throuw the lost river(green foggy cave). Entrances to the lost river can be found at blood kelp areas or blue floating orbs. You will need your seamoth to be able to make it to 900 meters though.
Lemme know if you need more help 😁
