I have the same machine only a 2012 model. It just hit 500hrs and got its first hydraulic oil change. Back in 2008 my hustler super z manual said it wasn't due for a hydro change for the first 1 thousand hours. I just find it hard to believe that now they're saying it needs it every season, even if you only have 100 hrs on it per yr. The dealer told me in 08 the reason for the 1k hr first change was Hustler was more considered about dirt getting into the system than it needing fresh oil. I mow grass commercially, but this 2012 HD is a backup mower and doesn't see that many hours. So I'm going to play it safe and change the hydro every 500 even if I only put 100hrs on it per yr. That would put me changing it every 5yrs.
good video i have a 2017 HD you dont need to take either wheel off to change the hydro oil excel industries recommends changing every 500hrs or anually i just do the 500hrs filters are around $110 now and pumps are like $1700 these machines are built very well . my buddy has a 2011 with over 3000 hrs on it and still going strong
@@jakerichards1988 : I watched perhaps a half dozen of videos concerning this subject to make certain I was getting the proper oil. You are another in that list that says the same thing-motor oil, not hydraulic fluid. I was surprised by that. The only difference is minor one. A few have stipulated 20x50 rather than 15w50. In my opinion that is a minor difference. Thank you for responding all the same.
@@jasonjohnson5967 : Actual hydraulic oil/fluid is quite thin compared to motor oil. I have used both for many years. That being said, I checked multiple videos on this subject and all of them stipulate that ordinary 20-50 motor oil is what is to be used in this particular system. I am a new owner of the Super Z so I was thrown when they said to use motor oil. Never heard of that before. Live and learn.
@@dustinross1638 I'm way late on this, but the only thing I could thing would be an issue with the pump bypass not being tight? Were you able to solve the issue?
@@jakerichards1988 Thanks. If you didn't have an issue with the filter, then we just got filters from a bad lot, TWICE. They just would not go on. Quality control must have let the tolerances fall out of whack.
@@deannareffitt4460 I was not able to find an aftermarket filter, so I went with the OEM. If I remember correctly there were 2 different filters depending on the year of unit. Did you end up getting one that worked in the end?
About to service mine. This was very helpful
Thank you, this was just what I was looking for, good information right to the point.
Thanks for the feedback! Glad to hear it helped you!
Excellent! Just what I was looking for, thank you so much!

Are you saying that motor oil is used instead of hydraulic fluid in the Super Z hyperdrive?
According to the manual on this specific unit, the hydraulic system calls for "motor oil" 15w50 Mobil 1

@@wrongfullyaccused7139all mowers use motor oil as hydraulic, it's the extreme weight of viscosity that makes it hydraulic oil.

Thank you sir
Same filters are on Amazon for $30 as of 2023.
Any experience with the filter not fitting?
Sorry for the late response. I did not have any issues with the filter, but this was my first time doing it.

I have this same set up only mine is a diesel. Changing mine for the first time so hopefully goes as smooth as your video 😅
@@dave_1958 Did it go well for you?
It’s not cheap to keep a zero turn running, the trans requires regular maintenance and oil change if you use it much 😢, not very cheap equipment 😮
