My dude, you are a god. Hours of trying fixing this with no effect whatsoever and you just came in and fixed everything in couple of minutes.
I have been having this issue for over 2 years now, and every now and then I have motivation to google how to reduce it but never have any luck. This was THE fix I needed, I've not seen the 0 dropped frames to rendering lag this whole time! Thank you so much man!!!!

Dude, I spent 2 weeks looking for answers to this issue. For anyone watching, this will help on M1 silicon as well. Never thought of OBS "rendering" all of my scenes and scene elements even they are not in the previewer OR even in the same scene collection! My issue wasn't just that the elements were not hidden, it was that I had a number of scene collections and profiles set up for different types of streams (4K60 local recording profile, 1080p30 streaming profile, one for twitch, one for RUclips, one for restream, etc... all with corresponding scene collections build with different corresponding base canvas resolutions for that profile... and once I removed all the scene collections and profiles I don't regularly use... presto: Average time to render frames dropped from 42 milliseconds to 4 milliseconds, problem solved. WHY in the world would OBS be rendering all those scene assets in the background even though they are not in use and in entirely separate scene collections is completely beyond me. But removing them all and going back to a single scene collection with 1 or two scenes fixed EVERYTHING.
my man i been trying to stream apex legends but that game always had rendering lag and i never understood why i even got a ryzen 9 thinking it was my cpu (my previous was ryzen 7) and this right here saved me i been trying to fix it for like a week and nothing but you came in clutch just now thank you!

OMG! This works. Just also found out, you can right click certain sources and click a check box that says, Shut down scene when not in use. This helped a lot. Thanks you!

Thank you so much for this! I got so confused when I saw my Rendering Lag numbers continuously going up even though I have nothing (No games running, no browsers open...) running! Oddly I only have 7 games and I already have these annoying stutters! Once I hid them all, except the one I am playing... Boom! Zero rendering lag!

Dude! you are a F**Kn Legend! I wasnt even streaming and i was dropping frames. Hid them all and 0.0% You got my sub broski!!!
I made a new scene profile and noticed there was less lag. Started putting more sources as one would for my alerts, chat, etc stream stuff, and only had two other games un hidden, as well as a "recording" scene for non stream activity. Removed the Recording scene, and hid the other two games. Went from being in the red in my encoding lag, to nothing. Just two games......OBS gotta figure this out.
That said thanks so much. It's such a simple fix I wasn't even considering it.

@@minifern7733 only way you can fix this is maybe reset your settings and watch tutorial for low end pc

Auto Game Hooking always works for me...whats the reasoning behind you "hooking" separate game sources? You have a pretty in-depth set of scenes, sources and templates in OBS, big props there. Auto Game Source Hooking on FAST is what i use..haven't had any issues.
What if I don't have any games on the scene section and still experience this rendering lag issue?

So I guess it really IS because we have so much on our obs setup that we either have to just delete some things or at least hide them. I'll have to minimalize even more again.
Alright, so what do u do when u get render lag from just recording my webcam and desktop display if im trying to do lets say, a RUclips video reaction? Not even using it for streaming, literally just recording for RUclips videos simply using my webcam, and recording my screen
I have the same problem, but I have one gaming source, one overlay and sound alerts. So I'm trying to fix this and it's still doing this.

Yooo great video man! The problem I'm having is that every now and then, I will open OBS in Windows (and without even running a game) I will experience render lag anywhere between 1-5%. Meanwhile my GPU's workload in task manager is at 17%.. CPU at 18% and RAM at 25%. It has been the most confusing puzzle to solve. I've applied all of the logical and common recommendations, however I cannot figure out why OBS will have this weird glitch within Windows straight after opening. I have even sought after help within the official OBS discord where people could not figure it out after I have provided screenshots of my OBS stats, task manager and Tech Power GPU-Z..
The correlations I've drawn from different experiments is that whenever there would be a Windows update or a Warzone update the OBS would somehow magically fix itself and after a few days the problem would come back. Another way it occurs is that the render lag will be present at the start of the stream and about an hour into it, it will fall into its groove and totally disappear even though the stream started off with about 3% render lag. Like yourself I do have a lot of scenes as well as complicated nested scenes and your video has given me the idea to turn off a lot of the things I don't currently use. I will also test if the Game Capture works better in full screen rather than "capturing specific window" since maybe that is what has been causing this issue since I only have one Game Capture source and not as many as you did :P
Anyway, massive props to you for thinking outside the box man and not just giving the regular advice that seems to be common sense but actually digging deep!

Also wrong fps in game to rendering fps can be a problem.
For example 30 fps in obs and 60 fps in game caused additinal rendering lag.

This isn't my issue. I have an rtx 3060ti, 16gb ram amd ryzen 7 3700x. I have 3 sources. Display source, mic source and audio source. What is my issue for recording? No issues with streams.

So do you think cause I use screen capture on my 2nd monitor and I use different application audio capture beta would be the issue? I have a 4070 super and 5900x also I thought for a long time that it could be thermal lag from the cpu as well but the highest its been is 84C while streaming helldivers 2
High temps is definitely a cooling issue. Check your push fans in your case.
Check your fan headers and controllers. getfancontrol.com Is an excellent free program. If you want to see what your fans are doing. If more people request, I can do a video on this. Start there and let me know what you find. OBS should run ok, but your temps as I said are not good so something is off (thermal paste, case fans, or something else)

Hey, I'm getting major FPS drops when playing FFXIV Online and getting rendering lag. I only have one game listed though :( Not sure what the issue could be. I've tried with Streamelements and Streamlabs. Any ideas?
What are your system specs?
I have this issue with a 3090 I lose1.9-2.2 frames on average streaming in 1080p idky

What camera are you using. What GPU and CPU are you using? What game are you playing as well
HUGE TIP!!! Disable your preview window in OBS/Streamlabs Right click your live screen window or any scene that you are on and OBS will say "Enable Preview" Streamlabs, Right click and it will say "Performance Mode" Hope this helps!
I see the enable preview. But dont see the Performance mode
@@minifern7733 yes click that one "enable preview" to disable the screen in OBS. you can still switch your scenes using hot keys. The "Performance Mode" is for Streamlabs OBS which is similar to "Enable Preview" in regular OBS

Honestly i love you so much. Thank you thank you thank you!! :D :D I have been struggling with this for a while. It wasn't as severe only going down to 59fps but it still caused a few dropped frames and it was driving me mad haha.
I have also heard that G-sync on a 144hz monitor can cause some dropped frames too FYI! ^.^

you computer or video card can't handle it drop it down to 720/60 and i bet it'll be fine, or try 900p or something like that.
