I’m sort of jealous of this relationship between mother and son. He really understood and admired his mother, and clearly inherited some talent and charisma. So cool!
Amazing interview. Christopher is so good at interviewing, he is funny he asks interesting relevant questions, and Anne is sublime. What a lovely woman she was. Miss you Miss Rice. 💖
Anne Rice is one of the best writers,it's rare to put me in the mind of a single character in narrative that can keep me glued to the books and subject matters as her books do,I can’t say how many times I've read the same novel in a week as Anne particularly The Vampire Lestat,Merrick,Blood and Gold and QOD,The Vampire Armand and the Prince Lestat Trilogy I'm just fascinated by those characters Louis,Lestat De Lioncourt,Marius De Romanus David Talbot,Armand like visiting old friends down the street Anne is a character creating Genius
I enjoyed her books combining the supernatural with a historical perspective. She really knew world history and placing people in those times who can live forever is what caught me up and kept me coming back for more. She also combined religion and the metaphysical asking questions that about the meaning of it all and the complexities that humans want answers to. I was hoping the series would take that route and I know from her interviews she wanted it to go that way as well.
Thank You Soooooo much Anne, for being sooooo sweet to me. God Bless you....I am truly devastated.. You Were always my Favorite author....I'm at a loss for words.......
My first Anne Rice book was The Mummy in 1989? (I think) which was awesome, after that, I was sold on her as a writer and storyteller. She is one of the few writers I can re-read over and over.
The first book I read was Lives of the Mayfair Witches. I was so connected to her stories based on low lusciously she wrote. Her writing is so detailed yet nuanced. She knew how to take you on a journey. My goal is to read all of her books before I leave earth.
The fact that she is a pantser is what gives her the out of the box creativity that she bleeds. I love her so. Such an inspiring and beautiful human being.
Loved this interview! Anne Rice has always been one of the greats to me. I'm now reading The passion of Cleopatra, so I'm excited to start reading her sons work too. I hope they both continue to always write.
I’ve yet to get around to reading one of her books but I definitely will on my vacation soon, but I love her taste in fashion! It’s just elegant, but comfortable looking to me 😊
@Katie. I envy you for your opportunity to "begin" reading Anne Rice. For the rest of us, we are glad we took that journey "beginning" a long time ago. I've never regretted it. BEST OF READS TO YOU!
Lets hope the chronicles do get made and if Christopher is writing the scripts Hopefully they will stay truer to the books Especially after the hatchet job on Queen of the Damned
I just pray that Anne incorporates Blackwood Farm into the folklore of the Vampire Chronicles, versus Prince Lestat... I just kept waiting for a mention of Tarquinn Blackwood, but to no avail.. :( sad day.
Jimmie Baker III wait, perhaps Spoilers I thought Quinn and Mona were with Arion and were implied to possibly not have made it thru that attack by whatever old one was tricked into attacking the coven house with the fire gift? Did I totally dream that? I did wonder where Petronius was...
Lestat and Louis is Everything IWTV Vampire Chronicles, idk what Anne Rice said about a Possible Marriage of Lestat and Louis idk if it'de happen but I'm curious, if someone can comment on that ? 😉🍷
She's one of the GREAT American writers but because of all the marketing and hoopla she'll never be recognised as such. She's too good for these freak shows.
The last book in the Vampire series I read was Merrick. I loved Pandora but struggled to read Armand. I haven't read Prince Lestat, don't want to read it, and never will read it. Shazam, I will read it... see how easy I changed my mind. It's just that I loved the Christ books so much and the film made from them that it is hard to switch gears back to the mind of LeStat as a reader. Gordon
I'm ready for everyone who wants to bitch about what I'm going to say: I WOULD LOVE TOM CRUISE COULD PLAY LESTAT AGAIN. Plus she says he did a great job.
Tom was an awesome lestat...brad was a great Louis...Claudia girl was good,,,,only one i didn't particularly like was Armand....simply cause Antonio was ay to old... Armand was supposed to be 16 not a man in his early 30s.
CHRISTOPHER RICE - DESIRE & ICE - A MACKENZIE FAMILY NOVELLA - 2016 Apart from the pun on the name of the author , which is rather nice but also easy, vice excluded though you may think it is included, this novella has great qualities. Not as a thriller because the plot is rather simple and manichaeistic in facts like two people having their heads run over by their own four wheel drive SUV in a snow tempest: it sounds like Titus Andronicus by Shakespeare. They must have done it on purpose. Or they are really as dumb as every finger on both my hands and every toe on both my feet. Dumber than I you die for sure and will end up in the family meat spread for Thanksgiving celebrations in “Corpse Bride” or “Beetlejuice.” Not as a storm story because the blizzard is rather tame and not that long. For Montana it is nearly an August snow storm. Could do better, God of all weathers, and we do not even come close to a “Storm of the Century,” and that one was only in Martha’s Vineyard. The demented elements do not seem to be able to force our heroes to eat the leather soles of their shoes like Charlie Chaplin was compelled to do once. Not even as a romance of passion and hatred, of sacrifice and extermination. Easy indeed with the Russian-led car stealing mafia if not cartel! Easy indeed with the FBI arresting the biggies and leaving the underlings free. Easy also when the underlings are trying to loot each other’s loot expecting the FBI to let them go out of the country with bags full of cash. And strangely enough they nearly did it though a bad snow storm in Montana delaying the flights in LAX, Southern California after all, seems a little bit dubious and far-fetched as the reason why the FBI finally managed to arrest the two running underlings. The other non-running ones will get their heads run over by their own four wheel drive SUV. That’s subtle! But it is a masterpiece as for sensual and erotic romance of a high school student (from 14 to 18, hence underage at he time) finally realizing his dream with his ex-English teacher some four or five years later (and thus of age of course now and he even has condoms in his bedside nightstand: well-prepared kid indeed). Explicit lyrics generously provided free of censorship but covered with some modesty. Erogenous descriptions will titillate the most bashful among you readers from under their feet up to wherever your bashfulness will authorize. And since the author is gay he is both able to describe the pleasure of the woman (more than common in standard literature, both dominated and dominating: that’s the advantage of being gay since you can try both sides of the coin), and that of the man (which is generally only found in very marginal literature like Charles Bukowski’s eruptive howling and gay more or less pornographic literature with or without pictures and videos). But understand me well. This erotic masterpiece could not be that effective without the very original style of Christopher Rice. He manages to softly include in his language some sweet version of the teenage SMS’s of a pubescent Linguo, the certified language correcting robot directly imported from the Simpsons to this novella, even if Linguo is dead, because it is the linguistic master mixing up language and tongue of all emerging voraciously lustful male and female erupting from any child around the age of 13. Linguo may be dead but SMS grammar and smiley syntax are all the more active in the subductive impulses of today’s youth and in the older individuals who try to sound and look younger than they are. Some sentences are thus at times reverberant with the language, syntax and lexicon included, of another age than life in Surrender (that’s a remarkable name for a town like this one: police work or master-slave phantasm?), Montana, a 3,000 soul city somewhere in Brokeback Mountain that would not in any way ride bareback, and in this city there are more cows than human beings of course, ghosts included. So let us ride the mechanical bull in some fishy, shady and unsavory saloon. You can easily read this masterpiece in one evening and implement some practical experiments if your lover is around. With a little bit of elaboration on the LA crime scene it could become an episode in some CSI or Criminal Minds episode with a romantic twist and some greyish shade. Apart from that titillating appeal the novella is entertainingly simple and direct: do not imagine any complexity in the minds of the two main characters. They think the same way a cow and a bull may think in a pasture on a hot summer morning. Dr Jacques COULARDEAU
ALWAYS disagreed with Anne Rice's politics, made it public. But Anne was always an AMAZING in depth writer. Amazing at story telling, amazing at history, the best. That I will miss. I'm disgusted with AMC + woke changes to their series Interview with The Vampire. Still happy about The Mayfair Witches, but we shall see.
How can you appreciate her writing and not appreciate your politics? You are just cherry picking her work and her influence. Interview with a vampire has always been gay, and always will be.
of course you read the Sleeping Beauty novels, but you'd already been clearly aware of butt-plugs at that point, so it wasn't shocking. Birds of a feather.
I’m sort of jealous of this relationship between mother and son. He really understood and admired his mother, and clearly inherited some talent and charisma. So cool!
This woman is the modern-day Mary Shelly. RIP dear lady. I hope Michele was waiting for you.
Rest In Peace Anne. Such a wonderful person, who raised a fine son.
RIP Anne.
You are certainly being missed.
will miss you forever, Anne. what you gave to literature is rare.
Amazing interview. Christopher is so good at interviewing, he is funny he asks interesting relevant questions, and Anne is sublime. What a lovely woman she was. Miss you Miss Rice. 💖

Love, love this. I admire their relationship and interaction with each other. Priceless!
I know you wrote this three years ago, but this is so heartbreaking now. Poor Christopher.
Rest In Eternal Peace Anne. Gone too soon.. x
Thank You Soooooo much Anne, for being sooooo sweet to me. God Bless you....I am truly devastated.. You Were always my Favorite author....I'm at a loss for words.......

@@alexismcguire2457 it's a very different story, so I don't think so. However, I would LOVE to see her book The Mummy as a movie, it would be awesome.
The first book I read was Lives of the Mayfair Witches. I was so connected to her stories based on low lusciously she wrote. Her writing is so detailed yet nuanced. She knew how to take you on a journey. My goal is to read all of her books before I leave earth.
The Mayfair Witches is my favorite - I feel like it's still under the radar
RIH:REST IN HEAVEN DEAR ANNE RICE!
The fact that she is a pantser is what gives her the out of the box creativity that she bleeds. I love her so. Such an inspiring and beautiful human being.

shes right, when i found her world it saved me, it helped me feel seen and put words to my feelings. she also inspired my love of erotic writing :P
I just pray that Anne incorporates Blackwood Farm into the folklore of the Vampire Chronicles, versus Prince Lestat... I just kept waiting for a mention of Tarquinn Blackwood, but to no avail.. :( sad day.

53:16 Did she say she is still listening to Jim Morrison? Love that. But I can understand because she loves the sensuous and beautiful.

She's one of the GREAT American writers but because of all the marketing and hoopla she'll never be recognised as such. She's too good for these freak shows.
She’ll be regarded better after death. Such is the course for genre writers.

I think Evan Peters would be great for the part.

I wonder if there is a WEREWOLF chronicles.
I love Gabrielle, don't say that.

They were gay in the books. Don’t blame the changing times on your 5th grade reading level. Your inability to read subtext is your problem 😂
How can you appreciate her writing and not appreciate your politics? You are just cherry picking her work and her influence. Interview with a vampire has always been gay, and always will be.
"I bet she's a Democrat" ya got that right, headline only reader.
I grew up reading Stephen King. Until Anne Rice. After Anne, I never read another Stephen King book. ever.

Anne loved feminists, until historical "Republicans. oofs.
