I think you're right. There are a few moments where Paul looks like he wants to laugh but is too uncomfortable because of Gene. I think at certain times he isn't liking it and other moments he wants to join in on the laughter.
Tom Snyder's reaction to Ace perfectly shows no matter who you are, Ace is the favorite. He balanced out the serious nature of the other guys & put everyone at ease...not to mention his unique talent.
I think Gene was so used to getting all the attention that it really took him by surprise that Ace was suddenly getting all the attention here. With Ace being completely loaded, he was able to come out of his shell and be more fun and goofy on camera, and I'm glad we caught that glimpse of his personality because this is one of the most fun KISS interviews I've ever seen. Unfortunately, Gene was a sourpuss during it. Peter was clearly having fun that Ace was having fun, and it's obvious that Paul is forcing himself to hold back, probably because he didn't want Gene to feel completely left out in his corner of misery. I really feel like Paul wanted to cut loose because he laughs at Ace's jokes much more than Gene does in this interview. Gene always had a sense of humor tho, so I'm surprised that he didn't find Ace's humor funny - but then again, that would mean that he would have to admit that Ace was stealing his spotlight.

In 74, Gene was indeed the Demon, and he owned that damn stage (though Ace was rockin' as well). Gene was a sight to behold in their earliest days. They all were. By the time of their Love Gun/Alive II tours, Gene sucked on stage bigtime. He was no demon; he just wiggled his hips and stuck his tongue out at girls. Plus he began to sound like a damn bullfrog singing live; it was all Ace Frehley from that point. Gene was on a downward trend, Ace was on the up.
And Gene is so uptight that he thinks Peter can't say he collects real guns. What an idiot. It's like he doesn't know what country he's in. Who the fuck collects toy guns for target shooting? That's what he should have been embarrassed about. Not Ace.

KISS will always be my all-time favorite 70s heavy metal band besides Sabbath. yes gene and Paul use to be assholes, but the past years, they've become very humble. all of the kiss members are great people period. they made amazing music and they each have an insane talent with music. ace really did give kiss its sound. he has his own style of playing that no one else had, and that's what made every kiss song great. they're all very talented musicians, and I would dream to see em live one day.

Gene really doesn't have a sense of humor at all. Even when he tries extra hard to crack a joke, it just falls completely flat.

I agree with this.Those were excellent albums in the 90's and their show in 1996 at the L.a. Forum was the best concert i have ever,ever seen anywhere.
