I know what will solve this problem, have all cutscenes skippable (especially the long ones that lead to a boss fight), then put in the menu or options the [Replay Cutscenes] just in case you missed something, also great way to observe lore if there was a pause button too, so they can stop and find a hidden detail, Ooooooo I'll make my games just like that.

Nah, every five skips before you beat the game kills a random NPC, and the final boss is a boss that normally requires NPCs to fight.
Gamedevs usually never win with cutscenes. Either they make an important cutscene skippable and loads of people miss out on important lore, or they make a fifteen-minute long unskippable cutscene and you forget that you're playing a game and think that you're watching a movie or something
OMORI is a game that, although it has a good story and gameplay, only has 3 to 4 skipable cutscenes in the entire game (all of which are for the major bosses of the game), which although not a problem the first time around, makes subsequent playthroughs a bit sloggy when there's a 3 minute cutscene you can't skip.
Or worse a combination of both, a long cutscene that you cant skip and you must press the button for the next dialogue
that's why you make video games, instead of movies. just don't have cutscenes, people aren't here to for a movie.
i think the souls series gets it just right, minimal cutscenes, lore is optional, focus entirely on having good gameplay. i feel like game devs think the primary gameplay loop of most games is "get cutscene, proceed to next cutscene"

Why not just add a cutscene journal, or an actual journal in the menu? It's just weird how few games have this.

Or games that have no confirmation popup and just skip :) I remember getting really motion-sick during some incredibly story-heavy adventure game that I do not remember the name of, and accidently resting my hand on the Escape button with how ill I was feeling. Though I suppose it wasn't the only oversight, with not being able to fix the fucking head bob. Who even likes that?

This reminds me of when Game Grumps played the Attack on Bikini Bottom but Arin kept skipping all the jokes and references only to then say that he doesn't get why people like the game.

I've had a friend for about 15 years who couldn't give a shit about a story or a cutscene. It took a while for me to stop being bugged by it. In his case, he literally doesn't care about world building. He just wants to do the playing part. I just let him enjoy things his way and make sure if it's something good, that I play it first for myself. Lol
@Alexander Harvey Yea, my bro is the same way, I love worldbuilding, but he is an instant-gratification kinda person, so I'm normally play the games before he does so I can explore the world building without bothering him. Still kills me when he skips cutscenes on coop games we play together 😭

This legitimately happened to me and a friend once, they were playing the game and were skipping past all of the tutorial dialogue, when they got to gameplay they turned to me and said "what do i do?"
Reply with "watch the tutorial cutscene" and nothing else. He'll get the incentive to watch if you put him through a trial by fire.

This is on par with someone showing you a video they like irl, but they skip around the video to find the jokes they like instead of letting it play out.

Generally if I do something like that it's because I'm intending to show them one/two specific joke(s) and not the whole video.
every time someone tries to show you a video they like, it's never as funny as they seem to think it is, and then they get mad if you don't like it as much as they do. .
I usually skip around a video to get to the parts I think the person I'm showing it to would actually be interested in. especially when the video is like half an hour to a few hours long.
It reminds me of Arin from Game Grumps, because he would constantly skip tutorials and then have no idea how to play the game because he wanted to learn "organically" and would end up complaining.
The guy playing the game is what I like to call "RUclipsr Syndrome". He gets confused in the cutscenes he skips and resorts to asking the comments what happened because he couldn't just WAIT 50 GOD DAMN SECONDS
You know I'm really impressed that the new guy managed to make it to the early game super-boss. Normally you'd only find out that you have to skip every cutscene up till that point AFTER the second playthrough in the text of the tutorial cards.
I would love it if there were a game that forced players who skip every cutscene into an early game superboss out of spite. 😂

I don’t skip cutscenes if it’s my first time seeing them because I want to understand what’s going on in the game.

Better yet take all the shit they would have gotten from the tutorial and cut scenes they clearly didn't do. That cool sword you picked up during the second cut scene? Yeah no you didn't do that. Good luck punching enemies until they drop something.
Just make sure you give them a message warning them that they can skip too.

I had a friend when I was younger who would always speed through the dialogue when playing Zelda games and then wonder what was going on.

Skipping cutscenes is one thing but PURCHASING story skips from a micro transaction shop is just bonkers!

Well.... true, but usually if you're playing a game that's cutscene heavy then you're only really expected to skip the cutscene after you've already seen it once. Say you died and you reloaded to before the cutscene. Or it's your second playthrough. So it's not like they can just have the cutscenes be completely unskippable.

Imagine a game where skipping the cut scene invalidated what happened in that cut scene. Like you show a cut scene of them picking up the starter sword but if they skip it they never picked up that sword.

i'll never understand why people do this in a game they've never played before.
people who skip the cutscenes are the same people who later get confused and say the story sucks. if you want to know what's going on just try and pay attention to the story the writers are trying to tell you
Anytime I introduce one of my friends to a game, theyre the type to skip all the tutorials because they wanna play with me faster. Then I have to spend an hour or more teaching them the game that the tutorial got done in 10 minutes.

When im playing a game I treat it like falling asleep during a movie. If you fall asleep or skip the cut scene DO NOT ask me to fill you in on the details to clarify what you're looking at and why.

when I played blazblue(a fighting game not an rpg) I was initially watching the cutscenes, but the first cutscene was dragging on and on and on, so I ended up skipping it, and then I realized that the characters aren't doing anything aside from talking so I skipped the entire game.
