Oh ok
I have been calorie counting using labels and have had no problems losing weight
well the thing is a lot of times they are pretty close and for me, i burn 2500 calories a day and eat 1400 calories based on labels and 20 percent of 1400 going up or down doesnt come close to 2500 so staying a good amount away helps
Exactly. This is an excuse.
Thank you Adam, for opening my eyes to this cold and unfair world. Now I can't even do most basic of things in life without second guessing. Thanks for filling my life with more negativity, one video at a time.
Shikhar Sharma I know, isn't it so much fun!?!
You're looking at it the wrong way. All I can see from this is don't take calorie too seriously
its worse with type 1 diabetes when that information is very importatnt
I guess that's why they named the show "Adams ruins everything"
Right, it's more about the type of food to eat, if you eat almost zero carbohydrates your blood glucose stays much more even allowing you to inject a lot less insulin and keep an even keep all day every day. Calories have zero to do with your body when you're type 1 (or even type 2)
I'd like to see a citation on the claim of "century's old data". Besides that good point that calories aren't that simple to calculate. But getting those rough estimates is still better than no idea at all.
//\\//\\//\\ film You could always go to the website; they do cite thoroughly.
//\\//\\//\\ film 1.41 They literally put the citations on the screen.....
//\\//\\//\\ film Obviously an estimate is better than nothing but people take it literally. Although it's not much of a problem it is a contribution. Someone might eat hundreds of calories less than they need, they might need 2500 calories but think they need 2000 and then the estimates could put them below by a couple of hundred. Or they could eat too much.
//\\//\\//\\ film if you need a rough estimate just remember
bacon more
Brockley less

DELICIOUS
Thanks! I didn't see that link with all the other links. The actual article is pretty interesting. I think a clearer way of saying it would be old technology rather than old data. For anyone else reading this comment that doesn't want to read the article, the calorimeter measures the total number of calories in a food but not all of that energy is directly available to us because some of that energy is used in digesting the food. They cite almonds as a good example of a food with a significant difference between total calories and usable calories. Scientists are discussing the possibility of changing food labels to reflect this but no action has been taken yet.
Yes Calories is wildly inaccurate but how accurate do you need to be? If you have large enough of a data set, the over estimations will balance out the under estimations. So more or less it will be somewhere in the ball park.
The system might not be super precise but it will stop you from eating an entire 1000
cheese cake. Its generally a good guideline.
Even granting the 20% tolerance built into FDA labels, the FDA also allows foods containing less than five calories per serving to be labeled and marketed as zero calorie foods/additives. So foods that are presented as zero calories may actually contain up to four per serving.
Which is absolutely negligible. "4 calories" is wholly meaningless in any normal diet.
Do you not think people trying to lose weight are going to go and eat a cheesecake?
Kalkbrenner, sugar in tea and coffee has 0 calories.
@@Kalkbrenner it's not negligible if you eat enough of it, in some labels they just put the serving size extremely small (like quarter of a tea spoon) to get below 5 calories, but then you think it's zero calories and eat a huge amount of it. This should be illegal (it is illegal in my country btw but not in the US).
I'm surprised that he didn't bring up the issue that calorie content is generally determined by literally burning it. This includes the unusable calories, such as indigestible fiber and cellulose, which means we are often getting a lot fewer calories than we think when we eat fruit and veggies.
I am so happy Adam ruins everything is back

Best advice for ya'll trying to lose weight: eat as healthy as you can, salads are great as a little snack before working out to give you a small boost of energy!
Work out and try to walk as much as possible without hurting yourself
I love this show
You're either a 12-year-old or a simpleton.
why you think that?
SmashLiXs he just wants to bring other people down . America has an inbred problem
I also love it. It's one of my three favorite shows by tru TV alongside the carbonaro effect and my favorite TV show, impractical jokers.
Counting calories definitely points you in the right direction. Count your calories, shoot for a certain amount, and track your weight over the month. If you're trying to lose weight, and you're not losing any weight, shoot for a lower amount or be more active throughout the week. That's pretty much all it takes.
While it's true that data isn't the most accurate, the general principle of eating less calories is still highly effective, you just have to make sure to account for the potential variations. Usually aiming for "around 500 under" for men tends to work out quite well, because even though your loss will vary from 300-700 per day you'll still readily and easily loose weight
I've done calorie counting and it's been exceedingly effective with direct, consistent and measurable results literally almost spot on pound a week across 15 weeks for 15 pounds lost. It's a lot easier if you cook.
I'm sure this is true, why would we doubt Adam? But, I do think that counting calories helps us (Americans especially) have a better understanding of portion control and moderation.
Elizabeth O'Hair there's a website you can go on to calculate what amount of calories you need.
exactly, I think all he is doing is saying to not trust them as gospel. To be aware that they are only estimates. Calorie counting is useful to get rough estimates, but not for the precise things some people do, ie aim for 1950 calories to try and loose weight
acegirlinastraightworld and what site would that be if I may ask?
StarJackal Google a TDEE calculator. Granted day-to-day you will never be on the money with your calculations, but over a large period of time, if you are honest with your calories and eat close to your desired TDEE, you will see the number on the scale move.
If you cap your calorie consumption, you are practicing "portion control" ?
For anyone trying to lose weight, I recommend using the 'Lose It!' app. It measures your calorie intake based on your height, gender, age, current and goal weight. It's worked for me as I've managed to lose 40 pounds in the last few months using it.
I'm sure your hard work paid off too. Congrats.
I was about to recommend the same thing! I just use it for maintaining but it's so handy. It's so much better than MyFitnessPal! I especially love that you can scan barcodes with it.
Indeed.^^
You can also scan barcodes with myfitnesspal though..
Really? Never learned how to do that. :p
Do fast food wagons really print calories on their menu?
Right though
most sit down restaurants dont, most food carts/trucks dont even have any idea how much their items are, a fair amount of fast food places do though.
He can say it doesn't exist all he wants, but I've lost 45 pounds doing it.
You do realize that what works for you won't work for everyone else???? I don't get people who think they can just ignore actual science just because they lucked out. Different things work for different people.
geekymelanin
Unless you have a thyroid problem,
calories in vs calories out, it literally, LITERALLY is that simple. Don't try the "mentally illness" or "genetic differences" card either, try science first.
Science dictates that not all diets/etc work for every single person. Per science, one realizes that there is no one "solution" that works for everyone. Just like how some cancer treatments work for some(and don't work for others), calorie counting will not work for everyone who tries it.
Realize that I'm not discounting your results. However, you are not the default. Your experiences and body are not the default. The fact that y'all were able to lose weight by this method does not mean that everyone else can get the same results as you. They aren't you. You can't just discount years of science just because you didn't die from something.
geekymelanin
Come down from your high horse. What sort of "science" are you going by? This is basic math, if it takes 2000 calories to sustain your weight, eat less than 2000 and you lose weight, eat more than 2000 and you gain weight. Literally that simple. That's not some fad diet, those are facts. How is your "science" going to disprove that?
If the cupcake was 80 calories and they marked it as 100 calories, then it would be a 25% error that exceeds the FDA amount.
No you’re wrong that is quite literally 20% exactly
@@cameronhines4726 No, your label can't be off by more than 20%, not the other way around. So you use 80 calories as the number, not 100. Therefore, 20 calories more than 80 is a 25% increase (100/80, not 80/100).
@@marannebbeling9799 whatever nerd 🤓
'Oh, say, can I see that?' lmao
Avoiding grossly high calorie meals is definitely a good thing (for weight loss and general health), but the label you really need to be looking at is the sugar one.
Thanks for the full episodes
I mean, these counts must be decently accurate. I've lost more than 30 lbs doing nothing but watching calorie intake.
"Even people in the background who aren't supposed to be part of our show"
Adam is too much
Not to say counting calories and continuing to make reductions based on your age, gender, weight, and height aren't productive, though. I've known at least a few people who have religiously counted calories on everything they ate, aimed for a proper target, and lost considerable amounts of weight in the process.
As long as you continue to make reductions as you lose weight, and try not to go crazy on giving yourself leeway, counting calories is actually a pretty good method for trimming some spare pounds long term. In fact, I've seen counting calories be more effective than gimmick diets, although that's hardly surprising.
If you want to get towards a healthier weight, don't do gimmicks, do homework, and build good habits. Meanwhile, I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum trying to gain weight so I'm not a skinny POFS.
Counting calories actually taught me some things about healthy eating. Seeing the carb and fat counts was also eye-opening. It wasn't that I was eating terribly before keeping track, but once I did start to enter things in, I was able to make healthier choices. I also was able to see that I could sometimes have comfort foods and that it wasn't going to mess with my goals.
I remember in high school we were learning about energy and some of the conversions we had to do were from calories to joules. it was at this point my high school teacher told us that the way that most companies estimate the calories to put on packaging is by putting it in an incinerator and seeing how much heat it produces. so the calorie measurement on the side of the package doesn't even account for the nuance of how the human body breaks down the food, it's actually just telling you if you set it on fire, how hot it'll get/long it will burn for.
This is great. I love Adam Ruins everything. Thanks.
It doesn't even really matter to a huge extent if the labels are wrong by up to 20%, as long as they're consistently wrong and you track you adjust your daily calorie intake depending on how the scale moves over time, you're set.
Also an overweight/obese person will generally lose weight eating 2000 calories a day and exercising, and since 2000 is quite a low number thats been rounded down, you can have the calories on packaging be off by 20% and still lose significant amounts of weight
Chris Lawrence And thus, the 1.6KCal/day diet was born, causing calorie deficiencies of 700+Cal/day.
+Chris Lawrence exactly, this video is pretty stupid. I've been counting calories for years and know exactly how much i consume, so it's very easy to adjust my diet and stay lean all the time, even without calculating everything because i know the correct portion sizes.
Chris Lawrence,
Base in calories to lose weight is nonsense, it depends in the types of food, not on calories, you can eat however much you like of certain foods and don't gain weight.
One way to ensure that you DO lose weight counting calories (and yes, it is one of the most useful tools for weight loss) is to *track how many calories you're eating in a day normally, when you're NOT trying to lose weight. Then cut out 500 - 1,000 calories a day and you'll lose about 1 pound per week.* This way you know that even if you don't have the exact number, you're definitely creating a deficit, which will help you lose weight.
"Aren't you worried about misleading your customers?"
"Honey I serve food out of a wagon" 😂
I remember this from a FitnessPal blog post from my calorie journal app XD love this show
2000 in a day? I can do that in a sitting playing videogames.
Timothy Rogers this is for a white collar job so yeah, you're doing the excact same thing
I always thought food companies used bomb calorimeters to determine the amount of calories.
So did I. For a food scientist, bomb calorimetry is literally the first thing they learn for the job.
Why would bomb calorimetry be accurate? I would expect a constant pressure process to better represent human digestion than a constant volume process.
carultch A bomb calorimeter doesn't deal with volume. It uses the combustion of an object to determine the change in temperature. Which can be converted to joules and then kcalories. I say calorimetry since we're a walking redox reaction. i was always told a bomb calorimeter was more accurate than a regular calorimeter.
Well actually, what I meant was that I thought a bomb calorimeter is a rigid vessel that builds up pressure inside as a reaction generates heat, as opposed to a vessel that can expand and contract with temperature.
well yes for working the Gross energy of a food item but not how said energy is utilised within the body www.fao.org/docrep/006/Y5022E/y5022e04.htm also they wouldn't testing every food item being made/grown so they do batch testing
wow VERY eye opening! thanks Adam. LUV YA!
I live for these videos
Even estimates off by 20% are good enough... If a few weeks go by and your diet is not working, you just adjust it by changing your (estimated) calorie intake accordingly.
Works for me and for pretty much anyone that takes exercise/dieting seriously.
Still though, calorie counting does work, because it teaches you portion control.
Exactly. Even if we can't possibly calculate the exact amount of calories we eat as well as burn in a day by counting and setting a limit we will still lose weight. The only reason it won't work is if you set your limit too high.
The problem with adams show is that it has a huge bias. Even if the facts he uses are true the points he makes are offenly debatable, but he presents them as facts, and presents there opposers with corrupt altereore motives
dr_batman_md Well that means portion control works...
dr_batman_md true,but not topic
Actually if you want to keep the weight off then it's a bad idea. If you constantly count calories you'll constantly feel like you're on a diet instead of making a full lifestyle change. Plus it takes a lot of time so if you rely on it then have to stop you'll just regain the weight.
Also it can become addictive, so some people can take it too far and develop an obsession or even an eating disorder. That doesn't happen all the time but it does facilitate restrictive behaviours that get worse over time.
Who else cracks up when he say, "Even people in the background who aren't supposed to be part of our show"?
The way you ensure that your calorie intake is exact is to round down by that 20%. So if you're weight loss goal is 1,500 calories, consume 1200 calories to be on the safe side.
I'm pretty sure they measure calories in labs by drying out food and then lighting it on fire. High calorie foods will release more heat before burning out
It's a shame because I know that some people who are recovering from eating disorders struggle to eat food if they know how many calories are in it and would prefer to not see calories next to items on the menu. If those numbers aren't even right they really shouldn't be there
"Oh say can I see that" 😂😂😂😂 The star spangled banner guys 😂😂
“Oh say, can I see that?” Well played, ARE writers!
he should really do one on mormonism
Ruth Hernandez, me too, but I just feel that more should be done to show the truly disturbing and destructive nature of the church, and the culture it creates.
Daily Dose agreed but any religious criticism would start so many controversies
Daily Dose it's not really his place to talk about religion in general.
Vikings488 , the whole point of the show is to disturb the norm, inform, and bring about the betterment of people. I think that they shouldn't be afraid of people that get offended by the truth.
Tackling religion like that seems out of the scope of this show. That is more something for John Oliver. This show is more about common misconceptions and misinformation.
my hero
Adam, if you ever see this, PLEASE find a way to further spread your messages on misconceptions. I love how you put the spotlight on the truth, I just think you need a bigger light.
“Even the people in the background who aren’t suppose to be in our show”. Made me laugh 😂 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣😆😆😆
It's true that everyone's caloric needs are different, but unless you have some disorder, if you know your age, height, weight, fat percentage (can be estimated with a tape measure) and level of physical activity, you can calculate your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure). There are such calculators online. Then if you want to lose weight, you subtract from the TDEE, and if you want to gain weight you add to that. 3500 calories equal about one pound, so if every day you eat 500 calories less than your TDEE, you should expect to lose one pound (half a kg) in a week. I've done this successfully for the past few months and lost 20 pounds (9 kg). It's true that some labels are inaccurate and may have more or less calories than stated, but at the end of the day, you will lose weight if following this method.
lizrael yes but how accurate or scientific are those online calculators? It may work for you, but you could be rage exception not the rule
This is really misleading. Weight gain and loss IS determined by calories. It doesn't matter if there is 20% inaccuracy. You need to track calories to lose weight correctly. These really go overboard sometimes.
Their point is that the numbers in those calories aren't exact. I use a calorie counter (Lose It!) but I fully understand that the numbers it gives isn't exact. But it's a good general guideline for how much I'm consuming.
It's also not just calories. It's about your carb, fat, and protein counts, too. And various nutrients if you want to get super technical.
More or less just wanted to say 2000 calories is inaccurate for most body types, age ranges, gender, and height. And fast food calories are incredibly inaccurate but honestly if your calorie counting your not dining at a fast food joint just saying
That background music at the beginning! I heard that in Smosh's Happy Cow video.
1:18 cracked me up!! XD I love this show
Well I' mean explain to me then how I lost 60 pounds by calorie counting? I used to be 240, now I'm 170.
Boris Landaverry portion control.
Moderation
well 240-170 is 70 so maybe you counted the calories wrong too. This show has made me so pedantic.
but in all seriousness good job.
I liked this episode up to its "positive takeaway." Yes, calorie labels are just estimates, yes extreme weight loss does more harm than good (never good to burn fat that quickly, you release toxins stored in those fat cells all at once), and yes, sugar is probably more fatty than fats.
BUT...telling people it's okay to be obese is NOT okay. It's true that some people with obesity are healthy...20% of them. The remaining 80% are suffering from type II diabetes, fatty liver, heart disease, joint pain, and depression (due to poor health and self-image issues typically). This is not a fat-shaming thing--cheap food is EVERYWHERE, and if you're addicted to eating, it's not like you can just stop eating. But being overweight kills almost half a million of us in the US every year and that number is rising FAST (oh, and if you live in the UK, you're catching up with us).
I actually think that the end of this episode was so desperate to say something "positive," that the writers actually were quite irresponsible with their statements. You don't have to look like a super model to be healthy (not at all), but being overweight isn't healthy for the vast majority of us. Sorry.
that was a GREAT ending!nice job guys!
i love this show , can't get enough
Be careful.
It's a high calorie show.
Make sure to only enjoy it in moderation.
come on, who is so stupid that they don't understand how averages work?

"Even the background people who isn't part of the show..."
That got me laughing; great 4th Wall Break
I am so happy Adam Ruins everything is back
After watching a lot of Adam Ruins Everything I’ve realized how minimally regulating the US government is. This forces us (the public) the place a lot of trust in companies to not make false advertising claims, monopolize, make unsafe product, skyrocket prices of necessary things (drugs), etc.
does that mean i should not care or should care? or dont stress as much? HALP
Its saying to not trust the labels and to do what works best for your body, because we all have different needs.
I'll be optimistic. It means you should understand that you're running off of estimates and not an exact science. So what works for you may not work precisely for another person.
You should always care about your health. And you should pay attention to the labels, a rough estimate is better than no estimate.
You can calculate how many calories you need based on your height, end weight goal, and other factors on My Fitness Pal:) it's different for everyone! 😊
Calories are BS, just eat what you like
1:43 he had to smack his hand away😂😂😂
True... I was overweight (96kg) went to a dietician which explained me that not every food is absorbed in same way. Portion control is key and what you eat matters. You cannot count it with mathematical certainty. After 4 months of portion control (reduced diet by 1/4th) substituting healthier option (cut sugar, only one slice of pizza in a week, only 30ml liquor week and substituted fruits and Almonds for breakfast and dinner) and moderate exercise of 5 hrs weekly, I got my weight reduced to 81kgs.
Segways are old now Adam, ever heard of hoverboards?
Chris Nr I don't like calling them hoverboards because they don't actually levitate
Chris Nr yes and they still don't exist, they don't hover and are way less fun than a skateboard and a energetic dog to pull you...
p.s. if you do try a dog powered skateboard you might want to get a slow dog, I nearly died when trying that, my dog is a lot faster than I thought
I prefer the name gyro-scooters.
Adam Ruins Hoverboards.
They explode. Ruin over.
I've always thought portion control was probably one of the most effective way to diet, simply because you know you are reducing what you eat without needing to calculate. A great rule of thumb I learned: take your normal portion, then put 25% back. You still probably get enough to keep you satiated, while reducing your calories for sure.
Hey Adam,
You should do a video about the truth behind fur coats. Please do a video on that. I’m a huge fan of your show. Where do you get all this info?
"Even people in the background who aren't supposed to be part of our show!" 😂😂
Claims:
-"2000 calories is an over-generalization"
Yup. That's why you calculate it based on if you're a woman, a man, elderly, tall, short, active, sedentary, a pro-athelite...use an online calculator/manager. FitBit is great for this, you don't even have to have the wristband.
And remember, if you're supposed to be *losing* weight, then you need considerably LESS than 2000 calories. So, an exact measurement doesn't *really* matter. Even if you're trying to maintain, the imprecision will balance itself out, and if it doesn't, just adjust accordingly.
-"Calorie counts are often estimated"
Yeah, and they're often precisely measured, too. They actually break down, dry out and burn representative food products and measure the temperature difference of water they're heating up, and thereby measure the food's precise calorie value. So, overall, they're not anywhere near worthless.
-"Calories are allowed to be off by 20%!!"
OK, so you're saying if my weight-loss calorie goal is 1500, then hitting that means I could be really eating anywhere in a range from 1200 to 1800 each day. I think that's fine, and if I'm not seeing the results I need or if I'm losing weight too quickly, I can just adjust my goal with the food I'm eating. Bonus: if I'm eating all different kinds of foods, I'm less likely to need to adjust it--seeing as the above or below values each day may cancel each other out.
-"Being 300 calories off for one day will RUIN YOUR WASTELINE"
Yeah, no; again, calories are not only a great starting point, they're really the ONLY starting point in order to manage your waistline. But they're just that--a starting point! You still have to adjust (safely) if you're not seeing the desired changes!
Look, if you're not counting calories now (just eating whatever you want), and you start in order to lose your extra weight, I GUARANTEE you will see a ton of weight loss, even if the counting isn't super-accurate. This will be true up until a certain point in your weight-loss journey, when it will become necessary to adjust based on these variances. However, that will be completely doable, and you'll be motivated because you just lost a ton of weight!
Anyways, at least Adam didn't perpetuate the myth that you can eat less calories than your body uses and still gain weight.
EDIT: Side note: *Make sure you get your vitamins and minerals too!!* Only focusing on Calories can hurt you if you don't make sure your meals are *balanced* to get your total recommended daily nutrients too.
Nicholas Wright upvote to the top plz
downvote simply because you called it a weight loss journey.

1. Eating less won't drastically reduce your metabolism to a point where you somehow won't lose weight. Also, how does "lowering your metabolism" make you fatter. It doesn't, it just means you burn less calories. Meaning you have to shove less food into your mouth. Those teenage girls who truly starved themselves to lose weight would definitely have succeeded if they stuck to their "starvation." But weight loss isn't quick. A pound of fat is anywhere from 2800-3700 calories. This is the amount many teenage girls would burn after two WHOLE days of eating nothing(this number doesn't include exercise). The girl would not lose weight fast enough( because people expect results way too fast) and she would maybe binge on food.
2. Calories DO determine if you are fat or not. A professor from Kansas State University named Mark Haub went on a diet consisting of twinkies, doritos, and other junk food for 10 weeks and had lost 27 pounds. He set out to prove that CALORIES were what matters in weight gain/loss.
3. I agree that the best way to lose fat and be healthy is with exercise and a proper diet of vegetables, fruits, and a lack of sugary drinks, but don't try and say that counting calories doesn't work. It truly does.
XxJNike1xX Spot on. Hate it when people say that they never eat yet gain/maintain weight. If thats true then they should be in a lab being studied because that defies the laws of thermodynamics
Nicholas Wright tl;dr but as a generalization i agree

THANK YOU! People get so upset when I explain when a menu item is typically between blank and blank calories, even though we make our food fresh.
So is there an online calculator that we can use? I mean, theres one for how much you can drink, so why wouldnt there be one for how many calories per day a person can consume.
Laura Boury does drinking that claculator pertain to alcohol?
Look up a TDEE calculator. It takes your height, age, weight, sex, level of activity, etc. and gives you a pretty good idea.
Iv used it to make all kinds of GAINSSS!
did you watch the football episode? just drink when you are thirsty and eat when hungry
+Swiftooth Emberscale Yes! Literally all people have to do is not over-eat.
hello there
Robert Kite hi please play monster Hunter world with me next year
“O say can I see that?” Priceless
2:03 That's the guy from Crunch Time!!
but the truth is if you eat less you lose weight, it's not hard
Yeah, but using false numbers could cause problems. You could end up becoming malnourished, or maybe even become depressed if you don't see the results you were expecting "based on the numbers". And having a grim outlook on things can lead to stress and... weight gain...
find what works for you based on your body's needs.
and your health will go down because your body isn't getting the energy, nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that it needs
Not true at all, but you'll always lose weight with a good diet (which of course doesn't mean eat less but healthier)
Basically you eat less calories you'll burn fat.But you shouldn't be in a calorie deficit higher than 300.And eating better won't necessarily burn fat.If it's the same amount of calories and for the most part you'll be the same. You might feel better and lose some fat because of a change in macronutrients but a traditional diet is better.
I doubt it's going to fluctuate that much. You should calculate for sedentary and eat less than that, that way you don't overestimate how active you are. Some people count walking the dog or chores as light exercise.
Edit: Let's say you needed 2700 calories to maintain your weight. If you ate 2000 calories a day to lose weight, eventually your body will run on 2000 calories. To lose weight again you'll need to go down again. Repeat until you reach your goal. That's it.
I just heard I can eat what I want. Yay!
Teal MacFarlane Not really. He just said everyone needs different amounts of calories and labels aren't exactly super accurate. If you eat more then the calories you do need you'll gain some fat.If you eat less than what you "need" you burn fat.Just look up bodybuilder cutting and bulking diets for more info.
Teal MacFarlane you can always eat what u want
Pat massey I'm even going to get a Diet Coke and a normal Coke because the Diet Coke makes everything ok
diet coke is worse for you than regular coke
MrZsc okay i have no idea why people say diet pop is bad i started drinking diet pop instead of normal pop and people told me that i would just end up gaining more weight but the thing was i had already lost 5 pounds in the week i had started drinking diet pop and i was still eating the same amount of food. I heard something about the artificial sweeteners giving you cancer but 1. I found out that is only if you drink at least 2 or 3 a day which i dont and 2. Pretty much everything nowadays gives you cancer and just because it can doesn't mean it will
lol i appreciate this video for acknowledging some misconceptions about the accuracy of calorie counting, but tbh I've been using my fit bit and counting calories to lose weight and it's been working for me so far so i mean...
Thank you.
Find your TDEE and count your macros. Then choose how much of a caloric deficit you want and loose weight. Simple.
i eat 5000 calories a day
Shalini Gupta holy crap !
what are you eating that's so many calories ?
unless you are 6.3f and are an athlete who burns an Average of 2000+ (Estimated)
that's just too much
who made you the calorie lord?
Scientists
Shalini Gupta Gotta eat big to get big.
Calories don't exist for because of my fast metabolism.
Adam's helmet is so good I need one now
I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!
None of these problems actually matter though. Calorie labels give you a decent way to compare different food options even if they're not very accurate. The 2000 calorie goal is a decent starting point for a lot of people, but it's pretty obvious you should adjust it over time until you find an amount that works for you. Also, if the food labels are underestimated by 20% and the 2000 calorie recommendation is also rounded down by 20% then it balances out.
Anyway, the real benefit of calorie counting is just to make you stop and realize how much you're eating. In my experience a lot of fat people genuinely don't think they eat that much, and their actual calorie intake can be a bit of a shock. That's why I think everyone trying to lose weight should count calories at least for a few weeks, to build some intuition of what healthy portion sizes look like.
Also, you skipped the most bs part of calorie counting, which is ridiculous suggested serving sizes so they can list lower calories per serving.
2000 calorie guideline isn't a good guideline, but you can look up a general idea of how much you need by age height and size. saying you can't lose weight by watching calories is just straight up wrong and fat logic. I lost over 50 lbs counting calories.
Pretty interesting to watch, mostly because I've been sort of doing the Calorie count diet for like maybe a Year or 2 and so far I lost almost 75lbs.
I'm pretty much know that calorie labels aren't completely accurate and I did some web search on knowing the proper amount calories for me, but again it's an interesting video just to get more info on something I already had a decent knowledge to.
Yeah , this is totally an excuse to not lose weight and to not put in the work or effort for it
@@nataliegrayhandle Are you refering to my 4 year old comment or the video itself? Cause I don't see what I said suggest I making an excuse to not try and lose weight when I mention I have been loosing wieght.
this is so true. when I started running 5k 5x's a week and upped my calories to 2000 I actually gained some weight. it wasn't the running putting on muscle, I had been running for 6 months before the jump happened. went back to 1800 and it fell back off in a week.
Probably almost all water weight
@@Mike-Strong nah, I had lost 40lbs before I did any running purely on just eating alone. My body was stuck and set on one weight and never lost anymore after that.
Also: don't do the running like I did 😂 I did more harm than good. 1 mile is enough every day. I effed up my knees LOL
I happen to lose 130 lbs in a year counting calories
This episode is dumb. Labels may not be exact, but as a prior fat person who lost 40lbs in High School, I can confirm that they're close enough. Just don't be an idiot and trust the nutritional information you get from fast food/chain restaurants. You shouldn't be eating at those places if you're trying to lose weight anyway.
Brendan Huhn like u
Even people in the background..... That was really genius :)
I thought it weird that American restaurants list calories at all. Where I live you just get a list of ingredients that may cause allergies and they trust you to decide what you want to eat yourself
