It really isn’t too hard once you get into it, and it’s incredibly worth it! The 400 might be a little bit different but it’s the same general idea. Let me know how it goes!
@@LukesJohnDeereGarage I will for sure!! As you mentioned, the tricky part may be relocating the brake assembly, or a different way to attach the linkage to the fwd/rev bracket on the hydrostatic drive. I will take pictures and let you know. 🙂👍🏻
Good point. I did it on a 430 as well, relocating the break to the other side is about the same process. Linkage is a little different, but it is possible with some modification.
Hey man, you mentioned about later models, so would this be able to be done on later models ....say like a 1990 322? Doesn't look too hard to do. This is why I don't use the 322 more often, the lack of a foot hydro.
It sure would! I did it on my ‘91 430 and it was all the same. It takes a little calculation but it’s really fun and satisfying. The new result on my 330 is the best yet for sure. Now if you’re really into it looking 100% factory my ideas might not be for you..haha But my machines get used and I want them to have “functionality over form.” For me it’s about a day project now, and then I use the machine for a good while (several weeks) and see what could be improved as I get used to it. Then if needed I go back into it later and make changes as needed. My 330 with the foot hydro, 2 speed, and manual steering is my favorite mowing tractor now 😃
@@LukesJohnDeereGarage Yeah man cool. I have a hydro from a 420 I've been wanting to put in the 322, same year, also a 1990, but just haven't had the downtime or the need yet, like no loader yet. But maybe i need to replace/upgrade that hydro first and then switch to th e pedal or rather make it one large project. Your project only doesn't look stock if you know what you're looking at. If not it looks pretty decent to me. I think the upgrade from hand control to foot control is one of th ebest upgrades ever when John Deere made that jump. That's why i think the 4X5 series and 345's and such are so much better than their predecessors.
The rear case swap isn’t too bad. Neither is getting the 2 speed in. It’s only the diff lock that is a little finicky to get working. The pedal control and the 420 swap don’t interfere with each other, so they can be done separately.
Sorry about the link... I just updated it with a currently working one. As far as detailed pictures of the linkage, I don't really have any current ones. It was a rod that ran through the frame from the pedal, and then a tab welded to that. A straight piece ran from that tab to the pump swashplate. I no longer have the 330 but it was very simple and worked great. There's some documentation about it here too... www.wfmachines.com/threads/john-deere-300-series-conversion-to-foot-pedal-controled-drive-should-work-on-316-430-models.138492/
That’s awesome!!! Thank you! 😃👍🏻👍🏻 I have a JD400 that I’m going to try this on. 🙂

I don't have a 300 series yet but have been wondering how adding foot control might work. TY. Thumbed up.
Thanks!
Freakin cool!!
You labeled this video for a 318. A 318 has a double brake pedal in that spot. How would this work on a 318?

Do you have an updated link? And some detailed pictures of the linkages?

@@LukesJohnDeereGarage thanks a bunch!
Will it work on a 318 and does it get in the way of the mowing deck?
It will work on 318, and no, it doesn’t get in the way of the deck. That was important to me. Thanks for watching.
