  • NS Design makes incredible electric violins in three different models: the WAV, the NXTa, and the CR. But what are the differences, really?
We go super in depth on exactly what separates each of the levels, including demonstrations of these instruments into systems with differing input impedences, what the tone knobs do, and what the polar switches do.

This is the most informative video about violins NS Design that I have come across. I've been playing the CR series violin for a long time, but some nuances from the video were a revelation for me. Thanks!

Thank you for your sacrifice Matt 😅
It had to be done; that's a great demonstration of the utility of active/passive/pre-amp systems.

You covered this really well. Ned really excelled in the bowed instruments IMO. The Radius Bass is awesome too.

This was very helpful! I just got a used NS Design electric and I think it is the NXT because it has two knobs and that switch on the side, but it doesn’t have a battery on it. I don’t know if I’ll need to get a pre-amp for it, what are good ones for electric violins, especially this type I have? Thanks!!

This is great Matt. I am planning on scheduling a visit with you soon. I'm vacillating between the yev-105 and the NS Designs WAV, and the only thing that I'm wrestling with that keeps me away from the WAV is the bow-direction change "thump". I hear it in this video also, but I honestly don't know if it's something I'll care about our even end up liking.
When you switched on the HPF, it disappeared and the beautiful tone was still there. Do you happen to know the HPF settings they use? 200hz? I'll be playing through a modeller so I'll be able to put a HPF on with whatever settings do the trick.

@@ElectricViolinShop In case anyone else is interested... Info from NS Design is that it's a 3db/octave roll-off starting at 100Hz.

There are two explanations. One, they have a wireless transmitter. Two, they're faking. Sadly, there are a lot of the latter out there. If you see one in a parking lot playing for tips, there's at least a 50/50 chance they're not actually playing. It makes me very sad.
