I made all of these mistakes too. =p But it turned out to be my best tank & is largely algae-free, apart from an initial diatom explosion & water change. I still use my own compost in every tank, but I put down a 1cm clay layer first (we have dense, red clay), then compost + ferts (blood & bone meal + ash) & then sand. I've had detritus worms, but no planaria, no hydra either. But the wood pieces have developed interesting fungal colonies over time. At first it was just a shrimp & snail tank (9g long), but now it's "horny jail" for a couple of guppies + 6 rummynose rasboras, 1 remaining CPD, a mystery snail & a rabbit snail, as well as a few nerites.
many plants in the aquarium. usually tap water is good. but I leave it in a pot for one or two days before putting it in the aquarium. ruclips.net/video/alxKeCvcMMc/видео.htmlsi=u04bLAHHLFmgdKC0
Just ensure your tap water is free of chlorine. You can either leave the water out couple days before using or add water dechlorinator/conditioner into the water. 😊
I’m thinking of starting a 25l aquarium with a beta and 4 neon tetras. I’ve never kept fish before, and so i wondered if you thought putting in a filter but only running it during the day and having lots of plants is a good idea? is there anything i need to watch out for?
@@walstadmethodstepbystep i did a little bit of research, and many people suggest that its not a problem to keep it running through the day and off in the night for sleeping. apparently if bettas have been kept with other fish they can be peaceful
@@thanmai.akunurisome can be friendly some won’t be. My betta attacks everything insight so can’t have tank mates in his 40l. Being a 23l I think there’s a good chance you would have to seperate the them or or return them to the fish store as they will always be on the bettas space
Another solid video
Glad you enjoyed it
Enjoyed. Did you use potting soil?
yes

Nice 👍
so helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
I am currently setting up my filter less planted tank. How do I make sure I am using the correct water? Do I use filtered water?

How did you fix the planaria problem you mentioned here?
I caught them with tweezers and set the a planaria trap:

if you use a filter it is mandatory that it works all the time
Beta fish ( male) is aggressive, I don't know if it is recommended to keep it with other fish
read the nitrogen cycle ! do not put fish in aquarium before is cycled !
