- Richard Stallman recently announced on a video that he's back. He's back at the Free Software Foundation and is reinstated as a board member. And the haters are out in full force, actively trying to cancel Richard again. And not just Richard, the haters actually are trying to force the entire board of the FSF to resign.

I’ve been a member of the FSF for several years and nothing has, or will ever change for me. The FSF changed my life, and I will never forget that.
I called on their BS, they just deleted the issue. Anyway, I just donated to FSF for the first time to show them my support.
Whether or not you agree with what he says is irrelevant. He made the Gcc compiler which allows you compile programs without permission from any government, religious, corporate or rms himself without any restrictions but you own competence which is all that actually affects anyone.

One thing I wish the FSF / GNU would fix is the way all of their websites are scattered all over the place. They have too much information in too many places. The one thing I like about FSF is their mastery of our legal system and its copyright laws. But that shouldn't mean the FSF documentation should look like a bunch of legal paperwork. The documentation should be easy to navigate and easy to wrap one's head around it.
Clearly the guy is strange...real strange, but so are a lot of these genius nerd types and the people demanding cancellations are no better. What does a person get out of constantly spending their days finding character flaws in others? Is there a points system, do you get a tax credit for every person you have figured out doesn't adhere to your version of decency?

I've been an FSF member since 2011 and it's great to see more prominent Linux youtube channels advocate for it. Hats off to you mate.
We all should be thankful for what RMS has done and successfully achieved !

The lack of donations to the FSF this year was INSANELY LOW due to the hollow that Stallman left to his withdrawal.

Linux, Linode, Kubernetes and Metasploit do negotiate with terrorists tho :( At least according to the Contributor Covenant list of adopters. Composer, Mono, Golang and Rails is also on the list. All of these are pretty much bound to put political opinions above the code if someone gets offended by anything. People don't have a right to silence others. They have a right to distance themselves and block other people. Worry about your own life and how you live it, don't worry about canceling someone else.

It's very unfortunate how an organization that tries to empower people and give them tools to be free gets taken apart by absolutely non-related, political stuff. That just shows the true authoritarian nature of all those people who pretend to care about others.

If anyone defended free software as strongly as RMS, then there wouldn't be such a cult of personality around him. But honestly, I don't see anyone else taking such a strong stance and being such vocal proponents of free software (and against open-source).
He isn't "against open source", he doesn't think it all do fully apply to his standards. Nor too proprietary source, he just doesn't want people to use proprietary programs.
And many doesn't understand what he say either. Like he is fully ok with people earning money on OSS, as long as it doesn't lock the source from the users.

I was thinking of contributing to Gnome, but now I have changed my mind. Maybe Cinnamon or KDE.
Would never use KDE, I can't stand how they do their UI. If anything, I will use Emacs as a window manager.

RMS is a dysfunctional human being. But I'm fine with him being that way. The tech field is full of people like this. I started my local Linux Users Group back in the 90s, and we had a bumper crop of very nice but very odd people.

RMS is a radical thinker. That's what makes him special and always has. He's not always right, and no one should expect that. You don't have to agree with everything someone thinks, says, or does to tolerate and even respect and admire them. Unfortunately, all the folks who signed that letter are too consumed with small-headedness and hate to understand that principle.

Regardless of how controversial his opinions on other things are, with software at least, I think RMS has the correct take. More and more my belief in copyleft is strengthened as corporate interests increasingly abuse the FOSS movement.
