I actually did something like this, on a group of 10 all female coworkers and 20 mixed gender coworkers, assuming one in every ten people is a narcissist and each narcissist has approximately 3 flying monkeys. The female narcissists doesn't want any woman to be better, be it at their job or how they look. The only man she has it out against is the male narcissist and his monkies. The male narcissist has more group immunity, because people defer to male judgement. He's more threatened by performance and popularity, but doesn't care about the other stuff. In this dynamic, the only people who get promotions are guys and the narc girl. There are four guys a one gal who can/ choose to "stay out of it". The pretty women have no chance. Showing talent would be a bad idea as well, because then it's you against eight people, two of whom are narcissists.
Agree for pretty young woman. When I was working at my last job in my home country , I was pretty and received a lot of male attention. The narc sociopathic manager who steals the company's products and sells them, spread lies against me to fire me. She also spread my personal life such as my love life, and was so interested about my s life. 😶 I'm glad I left.
Yes please more videos on office politics. There’s nobody else out there speaking about this (that I have found) u r obviously very knowledgeable and have actual experience, and ur down to earth. I appreciate that you are real - ur not one of those “see how I make $10,000 every month on my couch” millionaire gurus or whatever. U talk real life situations, it’s what I need to hear and I’m guessing many other people feel the same way. I love what u do, ur a natural. Thank you.
Hey good morning, thank you for sharing. I came across your channel at the beginning of this month when finally (and too late), I realized I was losing by choosing to ignore office politics. My position was in pharma as a senior engineer and I've worked in the industry almost 20years. Sometimes it is still very sensitive for me to watch the videos on these subjects but I am healing slowly. Jennifer I'd love to write you a letter or share my story with you on Linked In because I'm so confused from the gaslighting, ignoring my instincts, and backstabbing from the "work family." I'm still confused what exactly happened, why, and don't want to rush into something without having a better toolbox. Ultimately staying positive, the exit strategy (even if hyperbolically awkward) was what needed to happen and I am so grateful not to be working there anymore !
hello: i just started watching your videos, THIS WEEK. i am reaching out to you just to say thankyou. I am not new to the work place, however, I am new to the corporate industry. I really appreciate my new career (this is my second time around). The industry I work in is naturally toxic. I learned this from the people who have been in the industry for 20+ years. I am old enough to have grandchildren but honestly, I used to be the toxic person in my old career. I am in a new place in my life and my career. I did not realize I was such a problem. Now that I part of the solution, I am now learning to properly deal with the old Me!!! Your videos are greatly appreciated.
Uploaded at the same time I was pulled into my managers office off of fictitious rumors! I love your content sis, even when I’m not dealing with the BS at work, it’s good to have certain things in my back pocket ready, like today. Thank you bestie
@@JenniferBrickit went good actually! It was one of those situations where my own personal brand did majority of the talking for me! Boss + leadership said they know I’m always transparent with them & mixed with my work ethic & interactions with team and everyone else. 😌
This analysis presumes that both sides are aware of playing dirty/clean politics and outcomes are fair. In many cases when the opposing party plays dirty politics they could destroy your reputation with lies! In this case you played fair AND lost your reputation and this happens all the time! Not to mention a plethora of other reasons why the powers that be can be biased to begin with before a decision was made: sexism, racism, nepotism, etc.
You should do a video analyzing some examples of workplace politics in movies. Maybe analyze a scene to show an example of what you talk about. One movie I’d like you to examine would be Nate Fick from Generation Kill. Nate is a military officer who succeeds at surviving workplace politics during the invasion of Iraq (he’s actually based in a real life person from the book of the same name). The series is in HBO.
Thank you for doing these office politics videos. They are so incredibly helpful. I'm currently looking into moving into a different role and this will be such a good blueprint for me going forward!
The only issue I see here is this approach assumes a promotion is my main goal. For me, money and status are distant goals - what I want is to be left alone to solve problems. I want to be the mad scientist that sequesters themselves away to work on a problem, build a solution, and watch others use that solution to accomplish their goals. That goal doesn't appeal to too many people, so I'm kind of unsure the best way to play that game.

What about have managers the have a a mental atitude of a "Kindergarten" because the culture is related to a matriarcal posture in a specific country. All the top managers are female an tends to ignore your contribuition and thing you are a "bad kid" just because you want to focus in client needs istead of internal policies...
My thoughts. Sounds thought out well. Are you considering the ethical worker who lacks charisma due to a social disorder? You mention having good relationships. This is where I struggle. I break records, and intern, unintentionally, make others look bad. They play deceptive politics to drag my name through the mudd discretly. Because of my social disorder, im really slow to recognize whats going on. It takes me too long to form the right articulated response for a given situation. No good proffesional relationships due to social disorder. Im too awkward, i take too long to recognize jokes and sarcasim. Imagine greeting people in a friendly way but getting a fake smile because they dont want to be around you. And its not because you did anything bad. Do you have any tips for this kind of situation??
I hope someone will answer your question...I have a close family member with the same type of struggles. People don't understand how to help this person because the majority of them are part of the cliques that cause problems. Lets see if anyone can share a tip or two?
Join a company where excelling socially awkward employees are the norm. Where you are the one looking up to people instead of them to you. In other words go to a workplace where people are smart and nerdy as well.
It’s hard to play office politics when you’re in a senior role and are being crushed with the amount of work. One option is to do half a$$ed work to get time to play office politics. However, this will likely ruin my career as I am very skilled at my job and doing work I know to be inferior will over time make me want to quit work. But if I can get promoted this would probably be a big boost. However, I feel, like I’d feel bad about myself if I did this. There’s also the big chance that my boss is just using it as a carrot and he has no intention of promoting me, just making his own numbers look good. If this happens, my job satisfaction will be very low and I’ll want to quit.
Other workers are marginal due to having too much work to do, all the while the ones almost on top seem to have plenty of time to have a social life DURING work.
In America, if you ignore them they get mad, you play hard they get mad, you play soft they get mad. Just one mad country. I haven't had drama/politics issues in my home country. Maybe because all women are pretty in my country 😂 We are slim and beautiful, so we compete by the kindness of heart, not looks. My overweight american peer is mad at me bcz i am slim, wear dresses and heels like a pro 🤭 Capitalism in America makes ppl hate each other...sadly.

Doing things the right way is still the best way. 👌

And I agree.
Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 To You & Your Family Jennifer 😊.
Happy Turkey Day, David!
Happy Thanksgiving 🍁 to you and your family Jennifer!! Hope it has been an awesome day and great content in the video.
Another GREAT resource is a piece titled The Hatchet Man's Playbook - a LOT of eye-popping, non-obvios stuff!
Hi not commented on here for a while still following your channel. Have a good thanksgiving.
Nice to see you! Have an awesome turkey day!
I think the 75 must be 60? As the opposite of 40?
Thank you 💯✌🏿
