    • @libertylizard_

      @@antonyshadowbanned Not so far from my remark in the sense that many repel from 'professional' demo's with the argument that it doesn't reflect so much on the device as it does on the one in a million ability of the performer. As one comment so famously said about Nahre and the Reface CP performance 'The amount of times I've seen this done, is ..just this'.
      Apparently this gives some ammunition for 'Follow because of the person, not the gear'. An incredibly tedious school of thought, as the company are hardly going to call in someone who can't play at all to do a product demo are they lol. (Then again I have seen that before so...hmm).
      Overall I'd say that she's really the ideal advocate for the range, due to the relatable fashion to which the products are applied. Most others, are a little too by the book to draw the modern crowd. And in a sense, whilst seemingly unrelated to some reading I am sure; we have post pandemic seen a swing away from 'Piano is a grandads instrument' precisely because of exponents like her and her peers taking to these demonstrations and more beside.
      So it is no idle compliment. The talent does sell it and good on Yamaha for picking so well on that front.

      It's obviously no grand piano in feel or expression, nor is it really a match for the much older mp11se (that thing is built like a piano nearly itself lol) but it's certainly one of the better key beds out there. Some think the newer YC models render the CP's obsolete since they have much better organs than the CP range does but effectively the same programs and keybed (88 models). The lack of VRM, escapement and string resonance are another shot in the foot for some compared to the much cheaper but full featured p515 from the piano department (these come from the synth range) but all in all CP88 is always improving and nothing to sniff at for the price. Some call them the Nord competitors but I'd probably trust Yamaha on build quality more (see ''thepianoforever'' and his comparisons on YT). So in short YMMV. Some will be fine with the trade off's whilst home studio players will want to stick with the clavs, kawai's and home performance boards like the p515. Cp88 is very much a gigging light weight board and if thats what you are after - the feel is one of the better ones for it. Handles great!

Also, Does one have to upgrade the software after purchase to get the 1.5 Hamburg piano, or are the latest models for 2024 already updated? Does it also make a good midi controller for vst piano's?

      @@joyouslawyer to my understanding damper resonance is a different thing, but good to know anyway

    • @libertylizard_
      @libertylizard_ 3 года назад +5

      They are different yes. In terms of 'Piano' accuracy, the Cp88 falls a bit short of the P515 for these sorts of reasons; lacking VRM/Escapement and so on.
      Yamaha don't like cannibalizing their products or forcing them into overlap/competition. They have a little of that with the CP vs YC boards around the internet that you may have seen and people are often wondering how to separate the products/price ranges accordingly.
      For accurate feel/sound/resonance home based/studio/solo orientated units will perform better. So whether you like something like the Kawai Mp11se (arguably the best action in a digital stage piano) or the NWX action Yamaha (P515) - they are the ones to look to. With most people keeping them at home, playing alone and whilst you don't have to - that uses their inbuilt features and limitations best.
      With the live/stage pianos like the CP/YC/Mp7/Nord offerings et al - you are looking for the middle road in many ways.
      The best touch they can afford; but tailored more toward playing with others and in a mobile setting.
      So the touch is 'almost' there - but saving weight on escapement and modelling because those are less appreciated (and thus financially purposeful) in a band mix. The CP's Pianos, often being called 'bright' because this gives them added presence when set against other instruments. Often noted by other reviewers. Having this 'direction' in design philosophy is all on purpose. They are aimed at very specific users.
      Bare in mind then that will always conflict with mainstream consumers (who often have less money and want the best of everything in one product).
      That would push things to workstation weight and prices. There just isn't the professional market for that. As they will commonly use VST with controller boards, multiple boards in a rack, or heavy workstation rigs with wider features.
      So choose a product based upon your needs first; to determine the product range thats best. Then dig into the features afterward.
      Cp88 is never going to be the P515 and vice versa.

      Almost every Pianist I've ever conversed with will recommend Roland-KC units. The Kc-350, now replaced with the 400 I believe; has always been endlessly popular. They likely have a studio specific set up here which can be worth remembering as you'll want something that fits your environment and potential recording needs.

      @richardpenrose1968 3 года назад

      @@YamahaSynthsOfficial Well funny you should say that! I now have a CP88 sitting in my front room! The new Hamburg grand and touch settings was what swayed my decision! The new Hamburg sounds less edgy and rounder with a nice richness compared to the other pianos in the CP88! Also, the new Hamburg grand has release samples which none of the other built in piano samples have!
      I feel the 1.5 update is the most significant of all the updates to the CP range as I felt the other pianos were lacking quite a bit compared to Nord!
      Now, I really wish the pianos in the CP88 had adjustable sympathetic string resonance, release samples plus hammer and pedal noise!

      @ErraticFaith 3 года назад

      People wanted a lot of those 15 years ago as well. Except back then we had no CP88 and many boards were more like playing Piano on a pair of your grandfathers leather slippers lol.

    • @ErraticFaith
      @ErraticFaith 3 года назад

      YC88 If you will utilize the organ section. Cp88 if you wont and only want Piano (Cp has some but they are...lets say 'awful' compared to what the YC offers, as you might expect). There certainly is overlap between the products. The CP is more immediate some feel, which is great for the stage stack (live). As far as I know, the YC also requires that one of its splits uses organ. The CP doesn't (so if you like to break your keyboard down into sections thats a consideration, providing it hasn't been changed).
      The extra money is all in the Organ, so you won't be losing out on keybed or piano sounds. CP is better for me, because I can save money and have a dedicated organ with a relevant keybed. You may want to consider this on the 88, as weighted keybeds are pretty lousy for proper organ play.
