Very imformative and ive been experementing with this lately . for me choking down helps with control on uphill and downhill lies otherwise gripping to the end of the shaft works beter
What I found, is increased Swing Speed, more Consistency in strikes, and the same or more distance off the tee, the only two issues are, if my armpits come off my chest/body and reaching too far, I hit the ball very low, besides, What I had to change is playing the ball off my left toe, tee height and low point were a struggle at first, needed to be higher for me...that's me, no lost of distance if anything more distance and more control hitting the center of the clubface with Irons and Driver.
It would make sense then to grip down maybe less than you were for all regular iron shots. I have been considering this because the control of your shots will improve and it feels easier, not to mention control of the grip is better.
The “down” was extreme and most would move down about an 1” to 1½”. That would be a more realistic comparison and would add insight to whether a club should be that much shorter. My experience has been that 1-1½” has produced *higher* ball flight, more distance, with a little draw. Going to an extreme is useless. The only time yo grip down that much is for green side chipping.
Since your a club maker or fitter I'd like to ask , if I am gripping a little to high high on yhe grip can it impede my grip because of the built in counterweight on every club at the very end . And would just adjusting my grip position affect the swing weight for me or lie angle etc , can half an inch or so create problems , inconsistencies or a poor grip if it's to high on the grip , is it possible that would make the club length to long from person to person
It was to the bottom of the grip for this test. With the driver it may be a little excessive but I regularly choke down on all other clubs when needed - Thomas
With choking down the driver, why if you added loft to the club. Say 12.5 degrees of loft to the driver while choking down the club. This would be interesting

That is amazing information with longer clubs, awesome job.

how about on my irons if i get them custom 1" longer and then grip down 1" as opposed to stand and to choke down at all

How far down were you gripping down on the irons?
@Thomas Campbell okay, thanks.
Needed to know by how much you shortened the driver; looked like you choked down 3-4 inches, maybe excessive compared to most of us.

Good video again, thanks
Very good interesting data! I learned something today. Thanks!
Good stuff!!

It would be an interesting test incorporating loft changes and either choking down or not - Thomas
