I was at that same campsite (13) with my girlfriend back in 2010. We stayed up late and we both thought we saw a UFO. It was a huge ship on the lake. It looked like a spaceship hovering between the distant hills. Such a fun memory.
You sure did pick an awesome section with amazing views for your 40 mile hike. This was also my favorite section when I hiked the SHT and it does give you a good workout. 👍
I hope to see you sometime on the trail. I live in Silver Bay and hike a lot back in those areas. They are starting to get crowded during peak times. Advice from a resident: Keep the dogs on a leash and pick up after them! Don't strip the trees around the campsites, hike back 10 minutes, you'll find plenty of firewood.
Beautiful video! You sure did pick the best 40 miles to hike in my opinion! Love the time lapse over Bear & Bean Lakes... the clouds were beautiful😍you had perfect weather without bugs!! The new boardwalk over the bog looks awesome hope to test it out soon!!
I hiked pretty much the same section in the summer and fall of 2023 with two good friends. We started at the Beaver Bay trail head and went north all the way up to Sonju Lake Road. There are some spectacular over looks on that hike, and yes I would say it will challenge you along the way.
1:40 "Hey, is this where we put the map on to tell people where we're goin'?" What a fun video on a Superior Hiking Trail. 11:48 Great angle of the bridge.
I’m planning a thru hike of the SHT soon, and I was able to follow along with you in my guide book to help learn the trail a little better. Lots of interesting ideas for filming, too
Whoop-even in April-saw the gnats/black flies/mosquitoes fog the view of Superior on lookout point!😂 Was thinking Maybe you were escaping that! Love from MN❤just realized you’re the reason I am wearing mesh wool! Subscribe!
Good job. Not a negative comment about your faster paced hikes, to each his own, but many of us enjoyed this outing more than some. In fact it seemed to me you were more at ease with the adventure too. Beautiful areas, especially liked the water falls. Keep on keeping on.
Great video and beautiful trail! I need to do part of the SHT! Also I never pass up an opportunity to take a break at a bench! They are too rare in the backcountry!
Great video once again. I love the Section 13 overlook. Is coming from the north just as steep as coming from the south to get up there? That is exactly the 2 nighter section I want to do this year, but the next 2 months wont happen with the kids high school baseball and softball games. Keep the videos coming!!
You make me wanna get back out on the trail now!! lol I’m still waiting a few more weeks to head up...but you called Wolf Lake, Johnson Lake. Is there a Johnson Lake nearby that I’m not aware of or did you say that on purpose? lol
@@MidwestBackpacker ok that makes more sense then...all the SHT maps have it listed as Wolf Lake. I always thought that made sense because the Wolf Ride Learning Center is that building in the background.
Quick question. I am a experienced hiker but I have just gotten interested in backpacking. I was planning on starting in and grand portage and hiking along the superior trial until a trailhead in Duluth. The only problem is that the website says there are no campsites. Do you have any experience with the part of the trail and know where to camp. Thank you
@@MidwestBackpacker I’ll put this on our list of places to travel. Do you have a time you would recommend we are from Alabama we aren’t used to extreme cold. But our anniversary is in the fall
Gorgeous scenery Jeremy. I’ve been meaning to ask you if your wife and kids ever like to backpack or camp. I used to love backpacking then I busted up both ankles and had surgery on one and now I barely can walk. I live vicariously thru your videos man. Keep up the good hikes.
This pack from liteaf has the water bottle holder integrated into it. On my previous packs I bought a similar should strap water carrier from Justin’s UL on Etsy. I have a video on them.
I ran into you , Toots, Krusty and Mule on Memorial weekend a couple years ago. We camped together at Onion River CS. I have been watching your and Rpelton1 videos every time you guys post one. I mostly enjoy them, however I have one piece of constructive criticism..... more trail and views without you hiking thru them. The deal where you guys put the camera in a spot and than hike to or past it is VERY old. Otherwise I love your videos. Try one that features the outdoors not you. I hope we bump into each other again some day. Also, if you haven’t yet try the Great Smoky Mountains. My family did it this spring and it is awesome.

I hiked the same section as you just a few months after, as a 15 year old it was the best experience ever and I’m now planning a thru hike of it
Absolutely gorgeous lunch site I haven't been there in many years
Beautiful sunset , and area to go hiking in 👍🏻👍🏻
On my list for summer 2022. Beautifully done, MB!

Great Video. I still have a lot of the trail to do, but I can say for now, this is my favorite section of the trail.
Awesome.
Bean & Bear Lake for the win! I will be on the SHT next Tuesday. My COVID inoculation gift to myself.
This is awesome! I haven't had a chance to go up there this year... watching your vid bringing back good memories!
Great hike. Great video. Thanks for sharing your adventure!
Beautiful.
I really have to get up there once this year. You did well enough to make me jealous sir!! Gorgeous place, well captured.

Great angle of the bridge.
I was literally going over my pack yesterday and wondering where you've been when I realized that I hadn't seen any content from you lately
I recognized Bean n Bear in the thumbnail. All the city folk invade the area to stampede out there.
I’m planning a thru hike of the SHT soon, and I was able to follow along with you in my guide book to help learn the trail a little better. Lots of interesting ideas for filming, too
Loved your videos, Thanks a ton. learned a lot about the trail. good the bad and the beautiful.

Yes you do. Leave your son at home. 😂
SHT...Geared cup and ready 2023
Hahah too good “Bobby”. See yah in the AM
Views never get repetitive or boring it's a reason most of us hike.
15:35, an IB TAT reference? Very nice video!
I love ibtat!
Nice trek! By the way, Sonju lake is 37 acres and Egge lake is 47 acres. Sonju looks bigger from some of the camp areas, but it is not.

I am planning to hike this stretch here in the upcoming months. You gave some awesome insight! Thanks!
Where did you park your car in Beaver Bay?
There is a parking lot at the trailhead. Have fun!
Gorgeous section, great video. What is the green thermal hoodie you were wearing? Thanks!
It is a Melanzana. They are made Leadville, CO. Pretty hard to find during the pandemic.
BTW. I love mine and it was worth the $75.
Thought you said it was going to be quiet...there must be a dude with a guitar right behind you
You make me wanna get back out on the trail now!! lol I’m still waiting a few more weeks to head up...but you called Wolf Lake, Johnson Lake. Is there a Johnson Lake nearby that I’m not aware of or did you say that on purpose? lol
The lake just south of Kennedy Creek is called Johnson Lake according to Gaia.
@@MidwestBackpacker ok that makes more sense then...all the SHT maps have it listed as Wolf Lake. I always thought that made sense because the Wolf Ride Learning Center is that building in the background.
I’m thinking about hiking the SHT should I use a freestanding, semi-freestanding, or trekking pole tent?
All three would work. I’d do the trecking pole since it is the lightest.

Lots of campsites along the SHT. None in Duluth. Really long day or get a hotel.
@@MidwestBackpacker not even along the entire north shore ?
@@MidwestBackpackerOops I misread read website.
I didn't see anything in the comments. Did you ever find out what the "logging" area was?
Nope.
What Beautiful views. Me and my wife loves to travel if we were to go to Minnesota. What day hike would you recommend 1 or 2 miles.
Thanks. Oberg Mountain loop on the SHT. It is short, east and nice views.

@@alexjohnson668 fall colors are beautiful up there. There are more people and hotel rooms get booked. Early October is the best time.

Thanks Ray. They would like backpacking as much as I like the mall. Not a chance! I’ll keep bringing you along for “our trips”!
Where is your green sweatshirt from
Melanzana in Leadville Colorado
What kind of water bottle holder is on your shoulder strap?

I want to hike this in 2022! Did you leave your car at the end and shuttle to where you started?
Yes
someone needs to take that bear down, its a threat
Naw. Bear just being a bear.
