After a few more drying/curing months, I'm going to try making a neck from a piece of Catalpa wood. This series is going to help me a lot!

Thats awesome. I've never worked with Catalpa myself but the trees are awesome to look at.

Looking great Jeff. The elm veneer is a nice touch.

Thanks, sometimes you just have to get creative and experiment. Turns out, this worked great.

Good stuff. If you had glued the headstock on top of the neck scarf, it wouldn't have been so long.

Urm, I'm building along with you but I'm stuck about about how to size the cut out in the headstock template so it allows for the routing and then the headstock insert. Help! Pleeeease!

You can really make it whatever size and shape you want. Just make sure its small enough to stay away from the tuner holes.

In you Wednesday show, you mentioned you liked the carbon rods. So much you said you would use them all the time. Will that include electrics?

Yes, I use them on electric necks as well.

What truss rod do you use? I had used one from LMI that I liked but they went out of business. Can't find one similar but this one looks similar. Thanks.
